FPL Assistant Manager Chip Guide

What is it?

FPL Assistant Manager Chip

The assistant manager chip allows you to pick a real Premier League manager for three consecutive gameweeks and you’ll be able to score points based on how the Manager’s Premier League team performs in each gameweek.

The chip can be used only once in the season & it cannot be canceled once it’s activated.

When can we use it?

Although the chip was announced in December it can be played only from GW24 onwards(1st Feb) and when you activate it you’ll be able to choose an Assistant Manager for THREE successive Gameweeks.

You cannot use the assistant manager chip with other chips as you can have only one chip activate at a time. So for the three weeks you have the assistant manager chip active you’ll not be able to use other chips including the wildcard.

You might want to roll a few free transfers before you activate the assistant manager chip so that you can use them in case your team is affected by injuries during the three gameweeks.

Assistant Manager Chip – Points Scoring:

MetricPoints
Win+6
Draw+3
Loss0
Goal+1
Clean Sheet+2
Table Bonus (Draw)+5
Table Bonus (Win)+10

Table Bonus Points Scoring:

Not just that, we all love it when a team punches above their weight and win a game against opponents higher up in the table. Well FPL have incorporated that into the points scoring of the assistant manager chip & it’s known as a table bonus.

Suppose you pick a manager who faces a club ranked at least five places higher in the Premier League table at the start of the Gameweek. In that case, there’s the possibility of even greater rewards – an EXTRA 10 points for a win, so 16 in total, or an additional five points for a draw, so eight in total.

Man United/Ruben Amorim for example could be a great option if they show decent form when the chip window becomes active(FPL GW24 Onwards)

Transfer Usage:

FPL Assistant Manager Rules

You don’t have to spend a transfer to activate the assistant manager chip. But you also don’t have to stick with the same manager for the three gameweeks the chip will be active. You can change your manager during this three-gameweek period but it will cost a transfer in the same way as players.

For EX: You activate the chip in GW24 & choose Arne Slot as your assistant manager(This will not cost you a transfer), but in GW25 you decide to swap Slot to Arteta it will cost you a transfer(Same as transferring a player)

What will the Price of Managers?

FPL Assistant Manager Prices

Each Assistant Manager will have a set price that will not fluctuate throughout the season. There won’t be any price rise/fall for managers. The price list will be announced in due course but manager prices will range between £0.5m-£1.5m.

You will need to pay for your assistant manager out of your existing budget, finding the funds by making compromises with your playing squad.

Squad Composition:

The Assistant Manager chip falls within the three-players-per-club quota. If you already own Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) and you bring in Arne Slot, you would only have room for one more Liverpool asset for those three Gameweeks.

Tip: Make sure to plan ahead properly so that you have money in the bank & also space for the manager(Not exceeding the three players+Manager limit) while activating the assistant manager chip.

Other Notes on the Assistant Manager Chip:

  • Remember, you can only play one chip in a Gameweek. So if you activate the Assistant Manager chip in GW24, you won’t be able to use another chip until GW27.
  • If a manager leaves their club, Fantasy managers who own or bring in that Assistant Manager will still score based on the original club’s performance.

This season the PL will not clash with the FA Cup Quarterfinals which means the traditionally big blank gameweek will not happen(Last time when the FA Cup QFs clashed with the PL fixtures only 4 PL fixtures happened resulting in the worst gameweek in FPL history)

However, PL fixtures will still clash with the FA Cup semi-finals in GW34 & the midweek before GW34 is a free one meaning there could be a scenario of a double gameweek 33 which will then potentially be followed by a blank gameweek 34.

The last double gameweek of the season will be in GW36.

Summary of upcoming double/blank gameweeks:

  • DGW24 or DGW25: One of GW24 or GW25 will be double gameweek for Liverpool & Everton(Mostly GW25)
  • BGW29: Four teams will blank as it clashes with the Carabao Cup finals
  • DGW33: The team making the Carabao Cup finals will define DGW33
  • BGW34: This gameweek clashes with the FA Cup Semi-finals & the teams reaching the SFs will blank in GW34
