The long-anticipated return of Fantasy Premier League finally happened last weekend, and for many managers, GW1 delivered a solid start. Most teams saw an average to good performance, largely thanks to the fact that, apart from Palmer and Watkins, the top owned premium assets across all four positions delivered returns. These performances helped set the tone for the season and provided managers with an early boost in points.
However, as with any opening weekend, GW1 is now behind us, and it’s time to shift our focus to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in GW2. This upcoming Gameweek promises to be just as thrilling, with some highly anticipated fixtures on the horizon.
As we turn our attention to planning for GW2, it’s important to analyse the matchups, assess potential transfers, and consider captaincy options that could give you an edge. The excitement of a new season is still fresh, and the decisions you make now can set the course for your FPL journey in the weeks to come.
So, let’s start with our BUY-HOLD-SELL article for this GW, sponsored by …. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want 😊

FPL Gameweek 2 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY
Phil Foden (£9.5m) – MID, Man City – 17.3% TSB
Assuming you already have Haaland, the next player you should strongly consider bringing in is Phil Foden. The Englishman was the 2nd highest-scoring player in FPL last season. He spent his post-Euro break fishing with his father, which explains why he didn’t start in GW1. However, he did come on at halftime and played for 45 minutes, indicating that he’s close to regaining his starting spot—possibly as soon as this weekend against Ipswich at home.
Ipswich performed well for the first 45 minutes at home against Liverpool in GW1. However, facing Pep’s juggernaut at the Etihad is an entirely different challenge, especially considering that, despite their strong first half, Ipswich ended GW1 with the worst xGC in the league.
From GW2 onwards, Foden’s fixtures are excellent, both in the short and long term.
So, if you’re among the 53% of managers who already own Haaland, it’s time to buy Foden.
P.S. – If you don’t have Haaland, make him your top priority.
Robert Sánchez (£4.5m) – GKP, Chelsea – 3.0% TSB
Chelsea had the 6th best xGC in GW1, despite facing the defending champions and high-scoring Man City. For context, even Man City had a worse xGC.
In a market where a £4.5m starting GKP for a Top 8 team is rare, Sanchez presents a reliable option. He has excellent fixtures starting from GW2 onwards.
In GW2, Sanchez will face Wolves, who ranked 17th in xG during GW1. While it’s true Wolves played against a strong Arsenal defence, but Chelsea also faced a top-tier Manchester City attack.
Sanchez ranked 6th among goalkeepers in points per start (minimum 15 appearances) last season. So, strongly consider bringing in this Set & Forget budget GKP.

FPL Gameweek 2 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD
Ollie Watkins (£9.0m) – FWD, Aston Villa – 33.1% TSB
Currently, Watkins is the most transferred-out player. However, managers might be acting too hastily in offloading last season’s highest-scoring forward after just one match.
Given his limited pre-season exposure, Watkins was bound to be rusty in GW1. In fact, there were even rumors that he might not start, so his blank shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Let’s take a look at Aston Villa’s fixtures.
Is the upcoming match against Arsenal causing concern? If so, it’s worth noting that Aston Villa won both legs against Arsenal last season with a combined score of 3-0, and Watkins even scored in the last league meeting between the two sides. Beyond the Arsenal fixture, Watkins has a favorable run of matches.
Therefore, it makes sense for Watkins owners to HOLD onto him. However, he is a typical case of a DON’T BUY, DON’T SELL recommendation for this week.

Cole Palmer (£10.5m) – MID, Chelsea – 35.3% TSB
Palmer is currently the most transferred-out unflagged midfielder this Gameweek, largely due to concerns over his recent return of just 2 points in the last match.
However, it’s important to recognize that Palmer is a consistent starter in a team with excellent upcoming fixtures. Despite facing one of the best defences in the league, he still registered an xGI of 0.26. For comparison, Haaland, playing against a much weaker defence, had an xGI of 0.28 and scored.
Last season, Palmer stood out as the top FPL scorer and was recently awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year. Given these favourable factors, it’s wise to keep Palmer in your Fantasy Premier League squad.

FPL Gameweek 2 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL
Valentín Barco (£4.0m) – DEF, Brighton – 22.5% TSB
It’s rare to see a £4.0m defender on the SELL list, but more than 100,000 managers have already sold the young Argentine.
The reason is simple: Barco is the 5th most-owned defender in FPL, and he’s on his way to Sevilla on a season-long loan deal. There’s some confusion about whether his price will drop like that of another loanee, Gallagher, or if it’s locked.
However, what’s clear is that he won’t play any part in the league this season, which means that, eventually, managers will have to sell him. The whole point of choosing Barco over other £4.0m defenders was his seemingly guaranteed starting berth. If that’s no longer the case, it’s best to act sooner rather than later and potentially save some team value.

Matt Turner (£4.0m) – GKP, Nott’m Forest – 19.2% TSB
Turner is the second most-owned goalkeeper (GKP) in the league. However, he is currently the 4th most transferred-out GKP, as he didn’t start in GW1 and doesn’t seem likely to start anytime soon. If this trend continues, his price is very likely to drop.
It’s not as if he performs miracles when he does start; in 17 starts last season, he managed only 41 points. Therefore, it’s best to acknowledge that starting with the American goalkeeper wasn’t a great idea and swiftly move on.
PS – Neither of the above, in fact none of the FPL assets is a hard sell this week as we have too little information. If possible please roll your transfer
