Teams & Players to Target for FPL DGW25 | Double Gameweek 25

We’re at the business end of the season now, with a minefield of doubles of blanks to contend with, and while it’s important to look at the macro chip strategy, it’s essential to target FPL DGW25, with the 2 highest scoring teams playing twice. What’s more, with Luton doubling again in GW28 and Brentford playing in blank GW26, their players must also be on our radar.

In this article we will be taking a look at the teams and players to target for FPL DGW25, taking into account form, fixtures and price amongst other factors.

Midfielders to target for FPL DGW25

Jota and Foden FPL

While there are some decent options at both Luton and Brentford, there are 2 clear teams to target for FPL DGW25 when discussing midfielders. Liverpool and City are the top two teams for goals scored in the Premier League this season, and are 1st and 3rd respectively for xG (with Newcastle 2nd), meaning that their attackers and midfielders are the ones to target for the double. Both teams have favourable fixtures and have been in good form, so let’s take a look at the best options from each team…

Liverpool FCBRE (A) / LUT (H)NFO (A)MCI (H)EVE (A)*

Note: GW29 Fixture vs Everton could potentially be postponed if Liverpool beat Southampton in the FA Cup 5th round to be played between GW26 and GW27 (Impact of FA Cup Results on FPL Blank Gameweek 29)

Jurgen Klopp on Mohamed Salah ahead of GW24: “We hope he can be part of parts of training next week, so we have to see, he’s going through all paces. It’s positive, it’s either next week or the week after – if you ask him it’s next week.”

Diogo Jota was and still is the safest Liverpool pick, and if you haven’t bought him yet, he is still a great buy at just £8.1 million. He is averaging just under 0.5xG/90 but scoring at a rate of close to 0.8G/90 and has been a mainstay in the Liverpool attack during Salah’s absence. The Portuguese attacker rotates across the frontline and has a knack for being in the right place at the right time, so don’t let his xG fool you – he is the number 1 pick for FPL DGW25.

Jota FPL DGW25

Salah is back in training, but for most managers he will be tricky to get to without a hit. Furthermore, he is very unlikely to play 90 minutes in either game, so it’s probably safer to stick with the other Liverpool options. It’s Salah, so there is the possibility that he will haul, but with other Liverpool attackers in great form and at better price points, is he worth ripping up the team structure for, especially considering he blanks the week after?

Note: GW29 Fixture vs Brighton could potentially be postponed if Man City beat Luton or Brighton beat Wolves in the FA Cup 5th round to be played between GW26 and GW27 (Impact of FA Cup Results on FPL Blank Gameweek 29)

Fresh off his hat trick in GW23, Foden is the pick of the bunch from Man City, due to his price, goal threat and creativity. Foden has the 3rd highest xG/90 in the Man City squad and the 3rd highest x/A (players who have played 900+ minutes this season) and, despite KDB’s return, he has retained his place in the team. Pep will be Pep, and Foden will be benched at some point, but due to his price he is an easy way into the City attack.

De Bruyne and Foden FPL DGW25

Kevin De Bruyne is predicted the highest points of any midfielder (according to FFH Points Prediction tool) over the next 5 GWs and bagged himself an assist 4 GWs in a row from GW21-24. The Belgian’s brilliance is undeniable, but his price makes him a less appealing pick compared to Foden (KDB £10.8 million, Foden £8.0 million). If you don’t like the look of any City defenders or can’t afford Haaland then KDB is a decent option, but there is better value to be found elsewhere, namely with Foden.

One alternative option to consider is Luton’s Ross Barkley. Luton are an interesting proposition long term, after it was announced that they will also have a double GW in GW28. Barkley has 4 returns in his last 5 premier league games, and has the highest xA/90 and 2nd highest Key passes/90 of any Luton player (to have played more than 900 minutes), demonstrating how integral he is to Luton’s attack. At only £5 million and less than 2% ownership, he could be a good differential for this period.

Defenders to target for FPL DGW25

Gvardiol FPL DGW25

The Reds have conceded in 7 of their last 10 games across all competitions, and with Bradley in great form, Robertson only just returning from injury, Konate suspended and TAA re-injured, their defense is not one to target. Bradley and Gomez are likely to be rotated; I would expect them to start one game each, while Robertson is only just getting back to full fitness. Van Dijk may be considered, but at £6.4 million, a blank in GW26 and the reds recent clean sheet record, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Instead I would argue that doubling up on Liverpool midfielders and attackers is the best bet, especially considering that the long term fixtures aren’t great, and the Reds are one of the 4 teams who blank in GW26 along with Chelsea, Luton and Spurs.

Selecting a Man City player is never easy (I’m pretty sure pep rotates his players on purpose to frustrate us FPL managers), and picking which defender to go for this week is no different!

Walker FPL DGW25

Walker is the most attacking option, but was benched against Burnley and Everton, and costs £5.5 million, which makes him the joint most expensive defender at the club. Gvardiol and Ake had been the most consistent starters since the turn of the year, so Gvardiol’s recent injury makes Ake a pretty solid pick. Ake tends to play at LB, and with his croation counterpart out for at least 2 weeks, he will likely start both games.

The issue with Ake being the top pick is his price. The Dutch International is currently £5.0 million, but is likely to rise before the deadline… This coupled with his lack of attacking threat (0.11xA/90 and 0.09xG/90), as he normally tends to sit deeper as one of a back 3, means that he is perhaps not worth the money.

Doughty is the top scoring defender since FPL GW16

If you are planning to triple up on City attackers then Luton’s defenders could offer great value. There has been a lot of noise in the community around Mengi who is, at the time of writing, less than £4 million, and a consistent starter for the hatters, but with 5 assists and 1 goal so far this season and only £0.7 million more expensive, I think Doughty is the best option. It’s difficult to be optimistic about Luton’s clean sheet chances against Manchester United and Liverpool, and Doughty offers much more attacking threat than Mengi.

Amari Bell(£3.9m) too is a cheaper alternative and picked up two bonus points inspite of Luton conceding 3 goals in FPL GW24 vs Sheffield United.

Forwards to target for FPL DGW25

Most big chances since GW21, Both Darwin & Toney are joint top amongst all players Data via Fantasy Football Hub. For Opta Stats, Player Comparisons, Predicted FPL Points, FPL Planner, Tickers, etc. Subscribe with a 30% discount here

Haaland(£14.3m) is back fit and scored twice against Everton; in the league this season, he is top for xG, top for xG/90, top for goals scored and at 65% ownership at the time of writing he is a must have for FPL DGW25.

On the other hand, Darwin Nunez(£7.6m) hit the post 4 times, a Premier League record, in GW22, taking 11 shots and accruing an xG of 1.45 without scoring. Having said this; he is the best Liverpool option after Jota, and probably the only other one I would consider.

Nunez FPL DGW25

The Uruguayan is taking 4.8 shots/90, 1 more than any other player (fbref), has an xG/90 of 0.91, only bettered by Haaland (players who have played 1000+ minutes this season), but the Liverpool frontman actually has a better xA/90 than the Norwegian. Yes he misses chances, yes he could become a minutes risk in the long term, but he remains the 2nd best Liverpool option. He played excellently against Burnley in GW24, so I expect him to start in both of the GW25 games.

If you don’t trust Nunez to put away chances, then Toney(£8.2m) is the slightly less risky choice. He’s nailed and has scored 3 in his last 4 in the league, making him a solid choice for the double GW. The only downside is the fixtures: Liverpool at home and Man City away are not easy games by any stretch of the imagination…

Adebayo FPL DGW25

A cheaper alternative to those three is Luton’s Adebayo(£4.9m), who has scored in 3 of his last 5 games and is averaging 0.70G/90, more than both Toney and Nunez. If you’re strapped for cash then Adebayo is the one to go for, especially considering Luton also double in GW28.

Carlton Morris(£5.0m) also emerges as a stronger alternative to Adebayo, he’s only 0.1 more expensive than Adebayo and has penalties as well.

However, it should be noted that Luton are one of the teams who blank in GW26, so if you have three Liverpool, a couple of Spurs, a Chelsea and one other Luton player, then maybe targeting (or holding) Toney or even Solanke with the blank GW in mind is a more sensible choice.

My Plans for FPL GW25

My Plans for FPL DGW25

I am currently sat at 7,962 overall (somehow) and I am very aware that if I get my transfers wrong this week, everything may well go down hill very quickly… I have 1 free transfer after replacing Watkins with Nunez for GW24 in order to target not only Liverpool’s DGW but also the Burnley fixture. Having said this I plan to take a -4 and make 2 transfers to make the most of FPL DGW25, with players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Barkley and Doughty all on my radar, but I am unsure as of yet who to transfer out. I am happy with 2 Liverpool players (Gomez may well make way for Doughty), but feel as though 3 city players is necessary and, as mentioned above, I’m not keen on their defenders, so De Bruyne is my main target (although I’m not sure how I’m going to afford him!).
