Welcome back to another captaincy metrics blog, Last week Salah who topped our captaincy metrics produced a 30-point return for his captainers while Haaland and Son both blanked. This week Haaland is at home against a leaky Brighton side and Salah is up against Everton while Son faces Fulham. Let’s see which FPL Gameweek 9 Captain Picks tops the captaincy metrics this week, will it be Salah again or will it be Haaland/Son dethroning the Egyptian king?

Haaland comes out on top of the captaincy poll for FPL Gameweek 9 with 39% of the votes. Salah is second with 33% of the votes, Son is 3rd with 15% of the votes. The top five are rounded off by Trippier and Maddison.

Erling Haaland tops our picks for Underlying Numbers. With 24 Shots Inside the Box, 14 Big Chances in total, and an xG total of 6.95, he leads the Attacking Stats factor for players in consideration. 

Mohammed Salah comes in behind Haaland for Underlying Numbers. With 14 Shots Inside the Box, 4 Big Chances in total, and an xG total of 3.69. He has created 14 chances in the last six games which is the 3rd highest amongst the five players.

Son, with 13 Shots Inside the Box, 6 Big chances, and an xG total of 2.95, takes the third spot.

Son’s teammate Maddison comes fourth behind Son with 8 Shots Inside the Box, 2 Big Chances, and an xG total of 1.97.

Trippier as expected is last as he’s more of an assist threat rather than a goal threat which can be seen from his chances-created numbers. His 22 chances created in the last six games are not only the highest among these five players but also the highest among all players in the League.

Newcastle United have the best underlying numbers of the teams in comparison to the last 6 games. A total of 65 Shots Inside the Box and 22 Big Chances, helps in boosting their xG to 13.78, which is the highest of all teams in question. 

Liverpool come in behind Newcastle, with 61 Shots Inside the Box, 21 Big Chances in Total, and xG at 12.56.

Man City come behind Liverpool with 64 Shots Inside the Box, 20 Big Chances in Total, and an xG of 12.16.  

Spurs take the last spot with 71 Shots Inside the Box, 21 Big Chances in Total, and an xG of 12.12. All four teams are pretty close in terms of xG over the last six games!

In the Third Phase of the Article, we look at the Fixture Difficulty of our 5 Candidates. 

We will use Drafthound’s odds for a Team scoring at least one goal in the Gameweek and the Odds of Scoring more than 2.0 goals in the Gameweek as a whole. 

Liverpool take the first spot, with an 91% chance of scoring at least 1 goal this Gameweek and a 50% chance of scoring more than 2 goals this Gameweek vs Everton.

Man City are behind Liverpool with an 90% chance of scoring at least 1 goal this week, and a 48% chance of scoring more than 2 goals vs Brighton.

Spurs have a 87% chance of scoring at least 1 goal this week, and a 42% chance of scoring more than 2 goals against Fulham

Newcastle are last with a 85% chance of scoring at least 1 goal this week, and a 36% chance of scoring more than 2 goals against Crystal Palace. Newcastle odds are still great it’s just that the other three teams have slightly better fixtures as well this week boosting their odds this week.

In the Fourth Phase of the article, I have used the Anytime Returns and Projected Points Tools available at Fantasy Football Hub. With the help of the Anytime Returns Tool, I have derived the Safety Rank, which helps in determining the Safest Captaincy Option of the week, while I have used the Projected Points Tool to determine the Explosion Rank, which helps in determining the Most Explosive Option of the week. 

Erling Haaland has the highest Anytime Returns Projections at 76%, while his Projected Points stand at 8.6 for the week.

Son has an Anytime Returns Projection at 69%, and the Projected Points at 7.1 this week, giving him the second spot.

Mohammed Salah has an Anytime Returns Projections at 65% and Projected Points at 7.0, which puts him 3rd in this table.

Trippier has an Anytime Returns Projections at 65% and Projected Points at 5.2, which puts him in fourth place

Lastly, Maddison has an Anytime Returns Projections of 53% while the Projected Points stand at 5.9 pushing him to the last spot.

In the Fifth and Final Phase of the article, I have aggregated the Ranks derived above to pull out the Cumulative Rank Factor (CRF). The Candidate having the lowest Cumulative Rank Factor is the most ideal Captaincy Option according to this metric. 

Haaland tops the metrics with a CRF of 7, finishing above Salah who ended up with a CRF of 8. Son is 3rd with a CRF of 12. Trippier is fourth with a cumulative rank factor of 15 whereas Maddison finishes last with a CRF of 16!
