Best Captaincy Options for World Cup Fantasy Matchday 2
1) Lionel Messi vs Mexico, Day Two
Messi is the standout captaincy option for yet another Matchday. We already know what he is capable of, and it was clear to see against Saudi Arabia. Even though Argentina struggled and lost the game, Messi was on the scoresheet. He played three key passes, had three shots on target, and scored from the penalty spot.
I still won’t recommend other options over him for captaincy in the Argentina attack. I suggest you get him if you don’t own him, as he possesses excellent attacking potential. Suppose you look at other attacking options and want to do things differently. In that case, Di Maria and Martinez are potential alternatives.

2) Harry Kane vs Iran, Day One
Kane was in top form against Iran, and despite not scoring against them, he ended with seven points, thanks to his two assists. His owners will feel hard done by as he didn’t score, especially when England managed to get six in the game. Before keeping/getting him in your fantasy team, make sure you stay on top of any news around him, starting as he did pick up a knock.
There are chances England won’t take a massive risk with Kane considering he is their leading man in attack. The USA did play well and can pose a decent challenge for England, but the latter’s attack is too strong, and one can expect goals in this game.
If you are looking at a slightly different route, then Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling are potential alternatives. Starting with Saka, he looked sharp against Iran and scored a massive 15-point haul on Matchday 1. There are high chances he will start again in Matchday 1, and it is a great differential option.
Raheem Sterling is a forward, and if you are not going Kane or if he is out, Sterling is another good option for captaincy. USA’s McKennie is also doubtful, and the team can struggle on their right side. Sterling, like Saka, also managed to score on Matchday 1.

3) Neymar/Richarlison vs Switzerland, Day Four
Not the most straightforward fixture for Neymar again, as Switzerland aren’t the easiest teams to play against in this group game.
Switzerland will keep it tight at the back, but Neymar is in great form this season. He is likely to be on set pieces and penalties. There are high chances that Neymar will be involved if Brazil gets something in attack. He is an option if players like Messi, KDB and Kane don’t give enough points.
Suppose you don’t have Neymar and are going with Richarlison instead. In that case, he can be your captaincy pick from the Brazilian attack. He is the preferred striker over Jesus and will likely start in MD2 after his stunning brace against Serbia.
Note: Neymar went off with an ankle injury with photos emerging of his badly swollen ankle, keep an eye on his injury news. If you wildcard you can swap him out using unlimited transfers if in case he’s out injured. If you’re not wildcarding then you can use a free transfer to either get him in after confirming he’s starting or move him out incase he doesn’t start!

Alternate options – Kevin De Bruyne vs Morocco, Day Three
KDB is undoubtedly the best attacking option from Belgium right now. He is the most expensive midfielder in the game, and there is a good reason for that. Belgium was quite lucky in their 1-0 win against Canada. The lack of cohesion in defence and Lukaku missing out are also not helping.
Despite all this, he is the talisman for Belgium, with 71 attacking returns in 95 games for Belgium. He is also on set pieces and will likely be on penalties if Lukaku is not on the pitch.

Kylian Mbappe/Giroud vs Denmark, Day Two
An alternate option is Kylian Mbappe from France. He is the third most owned forward after Messi and Neymar. He is likely to get on the scoresheet if France scores. Talking about his form, he got two attacking returns (1G+1A) against Australia. He looked set to add to that tally in the tournament.
If you have gone with Giroud instead of Mbappe, then the former can be an option, but I prefer the premium options more.
Summary of WC Fantasy MD2 Captaincy Options:
- Day one: Kane vs USA
- Day two: Mbappe/Giroud vs Denmark, Messi vs Mexico
- Day three: KDB vs Morocco
- Day four: Richarlison/Neymar vs Switzerland
