FPL GW16 Preview & Key Dilemmas Answered

1) Is it worth taking a -4 this week?

We have one more week of FPL before we break for the World Cup, and FPL managers are looking at this as an opportunity to take a few risks with their team. The question remains: is it worth taking a hit (-4) for GW16?

It depends on what player you are taking a hit for and how much potential there is for good FPL points. Also, what players are you letting go, and what’s their haul potential? It is a perfect window if you are a risk-taking manager who likes to chase the upside. You can go for one-week punts and chase FPL points. It will also help you catch up on rank, as only a few other managers might take hits and go for these riskier picks.

There is more value in targeting attackers at the moment. Unless you can’t field a playing XI this week, taking a hit for a defender can be avoided. Look out for midfielders/forwards with a great fixture and try to ascertain the possibility of a haul.

The argument for taking a hit becomes even more convincing if you plan to captain this player. So, for example, if you plan to get in Salah and captain him this week, a hit is worth it. But if you take out KDB, who is a great pick and captaincy option in his own right, a hit might not be worth it.

One thing to note is that your transfers will reset in one week. So there is little to lose as you can easily take out the players you don’t want from GW17 onwards. It is okay if you don’t get it right, but the gains can be massive if you catch a couple of hauls.

2) What are some good one-week punts to go for in GW16?

Kulusevski good one week punt ahead of gameweek 16 ~ FPL GW16 Preview

There are some great one-week transfers you can make for GW16. These can help you gain rank and take advantage of specific teams having good fixtures this week.

Talking about defenders, if you are looking at a high-upside pick, then Perisic is a great option, especially if you have some extra funds in the bank. Tottenham still doesn’t look that comfortable in defence. Still, Perisic has immense attacking ability and can easily get attacking returns against a leaky Leeds side.

Coming to the midfield, if you can afford to get Mohamed Salah this week, he is a great player to own against Southampton. He is also an excellent differential captaincy shout in GW16.

Bukayo Saka deserves mention if you are looking for a direct replacement for Phil Foden. Many FPL managers have lost patience with the Man City attacker and are looking for an out. Saka is an excellent pick against a struggling Wolves defence.

If you are looking for a differential, Kulusevski is another good one-week punt. Remember that he is just returning from injury, which is a slightly risky option. I believe he starts against Leeds and if you are okay with the risk, consider him for GW16.

You can also go cheap and target slightly popular options like Wilfried Zaha and Marcus Rashford. Both have favourable fixtures this week, and considering the risk is minimal, they are worth looking at in midfield.

Darwin Nunez good one week punt ahead of gameweek 16 ~ FPL GW16 Preview

Forwards like Darwin Nunez and Dominic Solanke are also great options for this week. Nunez is the best replacement if you want to take out Mitrovic/Alvarez and have extra money available. He is up against a Southampton defence that has kept only one clean sheet all season.

In the other scenario, where you are looking to generate some cash and want to downgrade a Mitrovic, Solanke is a decent option. He is up against an Everton team lacking any momentum at the moment. Everton’s defence is looking weak, and Solanke can easily get a big haul this week.

Before going further do vote in FPL GW15 Captaincy Poll below. The metrics has a 12/14 successful returns record this season. Do vote in the captaincy poll for this week below. The captaincy metrics blog from @AK_FPL1 will be posted soon based on the votes.

3) Who are the best replacements for Diogo Dalot?

Best Diogo Dalot replacements ahead of FPL GW16 ~ FPL GW16 Preview

Diogo Dalot from Man Utd got suspended for his 5th yellow card of the season and will miss the game against Fulham in GW16. If you can afford to bench him and play a different defender, do that. There is only a little value in making defender transfers for GW16.

If you fall short of a third defender and have to make a transfer, Luke Shaw from Man Utd is a possible replacement. He is only owned by around 1% of managers in the game right now and is a great differential defender to target for GW16

Man United are up against Fulham, so a clean sheet is not a given, but Fulham is a very open-attacking side. Because of how they play, they tend to be quite open at the back, and there are attacking returns for the taking.

Perisic good one week punt ahead of gameweek 16 ~ FPL GW16 Preview

With some money in the bank, you can go towards Ivan Perisic. He was taken off early in the EFL Cup game against Nottingham Forest midweek. There are high chances he starts against Leeds, and the prospects of a big attacking haul against Leeds are looking quite good.

Suppose you are looking for a premium option. In that case, Andrew Robertson against a struggling Southampton side is also a potential transfer. My worry with this move is that Liverpool has kept only two clean sheets all season, and we may have to depend solely on attacking returns for this one. Still, if you can afford Trent, he is a decent one-week punt for your FPL team.

4) What to do with Man City players ahead of FPL GW16?

What to do with Man City players ahead of FPL GW16?

The first name we have to talk about is Erling Haaland. He didn’t feature in Man City’s 2-0 win against Chelsea in the EFL Cup. One major positive is that he was rested entirely and will likely start against Brentford this week.

There are doubts about Haaland’s fitness status. However, unless Pep rules him out, he’s still a decent hold/transfer this week. You can look for replacements if we get accurate news about him not starting.

Wait for any final comments by Pep. If you don’t get anything concrete, hold him and play him in your XI.

Coming to other options like Joao Cancelo and Kevin De Bruyne, both are perfect holds. Cancelo served his one-match ban in the EFL Cup and is available for selection in GW16. KDB also didn’t start and was also rested entirely midweek. Both are likely to start against Brentford in GW16, and there is merit in keeping them in your team.

The situation with Phil Foden is an odd one. He has yet to start the last Premier League game and didn’t even feature in the EFL Cup game. From Pep’s picking patterns, he should start Foden this week, but it’s a 50-50 right now.

Hold and look for any leaked lineups or team news before the deadline. If Foden is not starting, midfielders like Saka, Kulusevski or even Rashford are suitable replacements this week.

That will be all from my side for this week! Do let me know what you think about these dilemmas. Also, tell me in the comments or drop me a DM on Instagram/Twitter if I have missed out on anything specific.

All the best for Gameweek 16, and I will see you after the FIFA World Cup. Enjoy the break!
