FPL GW13 Preview & Key Dilemmas Answered

1) How to structure your Wildcard team for FPL Gameweek 13?

How to structure your Wildcard team for FPL Gameweek 13?

A lot of managers are using the Wildcard chip in Gameweek 13. But before you make a draft, it is crucial to understand how you can structure your team in the best possible way.

First up, I feel 3-4 top teams have great attacking fixtures, and it makes sense to invest more money in attack right now to get the maximum out of the Wildcard chip. We only need to look at fixtures from GW13-16 when making our Wildcard teams as we break for the World Cup after GW16.

Man City and Arsenal are the best two teams in the Premier League. Both have good fixtures, and it is logical to go with six players from these two teams

We also have Liverpool, who are looking a bit better now, and with two decent wins against Man City and West Ham, the confidence seems to be high. Defensively, there are still question marks on them, but they are a good attacking side. It makes sense to at least double up on Liverpool and attack the excellent fixture run coming up.

After selecting these eight players, you can go in different directions depending on your funds and risk appetite. Newcastle has tricker fixtures coming up but going with Trippier still holds merit

If you are not going for Pereira in the 5th midfielder spot, Zaha is also an option. If you are looking at a differential, then Bowen is the one to go for in your FPL team. This way, you can get a strong midfield five and go on the offensive.

The 2nd and the 3rd striker positions are where things get interesting. You can go with Nunez from Liverpool if you are okay with the minutes’ risk. Then you have more nailed options like Jesus, Mitrovic, or even Toney having decent fixtures for the run-in. If you are going for a third cheap striker option, you can even look at Solanke from Bournemouth.

I feel there are potential hauls to be targeted with players from Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Crystal Palace, West Ham, and even Man United. You can structure your team around players from these teams and put yourself in a solid position to score well in the coming games.

Check out this Wildcard draft! It should help you start your Wildcard planning for GW13.

2) What to do with Mohamed Salah ahead of FPL GW13?

What to do with Mohamed Salah ahead of FPL GW13?

Liverpool played well against Man City, and with Salah scoring the winner, everybody had their hopes up on his FPL potential. Now, with a blank against West Ham, many managers are in a fix about the Mohamed Salah situation.

Whether Wildcarding or not, a decision about Salah needs to be made, considering the captaincy will remain on Erling Haaland for the coming weeks

It depends on how much you trust Liverpool’s upcoming fixtures. I am a firm believer in the fact that fixtures breed form, and GW13-16 fixtures all scream haul potential for me. I understand Salah has been playing wide and isn’t getting into goal-scoring positions enough. This change in shape has led him to score fewer FPL points this season.

We have also seen whenever Salah has been playing central in Liverpool’s attacks; he has looked a lot better. We don’t know whether he will play wide/central, but the difference is surprisingly huge.

Considering he is up against Nottingham Forest and Leeds next, I would still take a chance with him as there is hattrick potential in both games. There is always a possibility that we see him playing wide and not being as effective. In that case, we can always switch him to Zaha/Saka, depending on whatever player you don’t have on your team.

I would go with him on a Wildcard in GW13. The situation gets slightly trickier when you rip your team apart to get him in through regular free transfers. Because Foden is a better option than KDB at the moment and Son/Sterling/Fernandes aren’t sure-shot picks, I would go with Salah as the premium option in midfield.

3) Who are the best midfielders to target from FPL GW13 onwards?

Who are the best midfielders to target from FPL GW13 onwards?

With teams like Arsenal, Man City, Crystal Palace, and West Ham all having good fixtures for the next 3-4 weeks, there are a lot of midfielders to choose from and gain an advantage.

As I mentioned earlier, Arsenal and Man City midfielders are a priority. Both teams look great in attack, and you will surely want a piece of that in your FPL team.

KDB and Foden from Man City look like really good options. Man City have an excellent record at home this season, and three of their next four fixtures are at home. Foden, to me, looks like the best value pick here. He is in great form and already has ten attacking returns (6G+4A) in the ten appearances. If you are looking at a differential premium option and Salah doesn’t convince you, KDB is an excellent alternative.

Martinelli and Saka are the next in line. Martinelli is the best possible option in that price point and looks fine to start in the coming games. He is worth getting if you don’t already own him. Saka is an intriguing one. He is flagged as he picked up a knock against PSV in the Europa League midweek. Arteta mentioned he is fine but do keep an eye on press notes before the deadline.

He is not a must-have like Martinelli, but he is worth a conversation. Saka started the season slowly and was massively underperforming. Still, his attacking stats over the past six weeks have been quite good. He has gotten six attacking returns (4G+2A) over the last five games and looks to be a lot more involved in attack now.

If you can’t afford a Saka or are going for Martinelli and Jesus as the attacking Arsenal double-up, you can get in Zaha. He has looked in good form so far this season. Zaha’s upcoming fixtures read Everton (A), Southampton (H), West Ham (A), and Nottingham Forest (A). The issue is that 3 of these games are away, and Palace is not known for playing expansive football when traveling.

An option worth considering if you are looking at a differential is Bowen from West Ham. The Hammers play at home thrice in the next four fixtures, and Man United (A) is the only tricky game to navigate. I like Bowen’s attacking play. Despite missing a penalty against Liverpool and scoring no points last week, I still like him as an FPL option.

Suppose you have more money invested in defenders/forwards and are looking for a value differential. In that case, you can also jump on Rashford a week early. This week he faces Chelsea, which is not ideal, but Man United has done well against the top teams this season. The fixtures after that are good, and he can be an excellent punt for the run-in

My Ranking for all MIDs to target from FPL Gameweek 13

  • Foden
  • Martinelli
  • Saka
  • Bowen
  • Zaha
  • Rashford

* I have not mentioned KDB here as he is a premium option competing with a spot against Salah in the premium category.

4) Which three strikers to go for right now?

Which three strikers to go for right now?

This season has been a lot better for strikers, and I feel it is worth playing with three good options up top. Assuming everybody is going with Haaland as one of the options, the conversation is around the remaining two players.

Again teams like Arsenal and Liverpool have good options in Jesus and Nunez. If you are looking to play it safe, Jesus is one to choose. He is a nailed starter in the Arsenal attack and has been quite instrumental in how they have played this season.

Suppose you have decided to go for the midfield double-up in Saka and Martinelli. In that case, Nunez is a potential replacement. He is not a pick for everyone, as there is an element of risk involved. Despite playing together with Firmino in the last game, there are chances both share minutes on the pitch, and you have to accept it and move on.

We know that Nunez will most likely play central and get on the end of a lot of big chances, making him a very explosive FPL option. He looks like a better option when compared to Firmino and is a significant differential to get in from GW13.

If you want to play it safe and can’t go for Jesus for some reason, Ivan Toney and Mitrovic are great replacements. One slight issue with both is that they play Man City in GW15 and 16, and you might need a different option in your playing XI these weeks.

Other than that, the fixtures for both look okay. Of both, I like Toney more because of the overall fixture run. Mitrovic also plays against Man United in GW16, a tricky game to navigate now.

There is a lot to be gained in the striker positions. Still, in a scenario you decide to put in more money in defence/midfield, Solanke can also be an option. He is the cheapest playing striker available. I recommend him only if you are trying to save money but also want the chance to play with three strikers up top.

Many managers own Kane, and I feel there is value in downgrading him to a slightly cheaper forward. You can either invest that money in Salah or a combination of Foden/Saka and one of Zaha/Bowen in midfield. I believe cheaper strikers can match Kane’s output over the next few weeks. There are hauls available elsewhere that you can target.

That will be all from this week. Do let me know what you think about these dilemmas. Also, tell me in the comments or drop me a DM on Instagram/Twitter if I have missed out on anything specific.

All the best for FPL Gameweek 13, and I will see you all very soon!
