These postponements have made an FPL GW8 Wildcard extremely interesting with a lot of good players and teams to target, a wildcard this week also will enable you to move on from Salah and Liverpool assets who take up a lot of budget and attack the GW8 fixtures plus build a solid team till the WC break in FPL GW16. In this blog, let’s take a look at the best wildcard drafts with keynotes for each draft along with pros and cons for wildcarding in FPL GW8.

  • Chelsea

Pros of playing Wildcard in FPL GW8:

  • Lot of good fixture swings which you can target, Fulham play only one big six team till GW16. Newcastle also have some great fixtures and could triple up on their assets.
  • Some of the top six teams have a tough run of games including Liverpool and Arsenal. Whereas Spurs have a great run of games.
  • Brighton too have lost Potter and have 4 games vs the top six from GW9 to GW14, they also blank in GW8 and this could be an ideal time to move on from their assets.
  • Few other teams including the likes of Everton, Leicester, Bournemouth, and West ham have a decent run of fixtures. There could be a lot of good FPL assets emerging from these teams and you could jump on them early.

Cons of playing Wildcard in FPL GW8:

  • Missing out on Wildcarding over the international break to build team value, watch out for injuries and look at updates on players returning from injuries(Laporte, Wilson, etc)
  • No option to dead-end the team for FPL GW8 and make some one-week moves by moving on the players from teams blanking in FPL GW8(Ex: Removing Salah and TAA with FT and maybe bringing them back on WC as their value is low)
  • Going after Arsenal assets who have a good fixture vs Brentford in GW8 but also have Spurs, Liverpool, and Man City between FPL GW9 to GW12.

Teams and Players to Target on an FPL GW8 Wildcard

  • Spurs ~ Kane, Son, Kulusevski, Richarlison, and Perisic
  • Man City ~ Haaland, KDB, Foden, Walker, and Cancelo
  • Newcastle ~ Pope, Isak, Bruno Guimares, and Trippier + Longstaff(4.4 Million mid)
  • Fulham ~ Andreas Pereira and Mitrovic
  • Chelsea ~ James, Sterling, Fofana and Cucurella
  • West Ham ~ Bowen, Fornals, Emerson and Paqueta
  • Crystal Palace ~ Zaha, Olise, Andersen, Guehi and Guaita + Tomkins(3.9 Million def)
  • Everton ~ Gordon and Paterson
  • Nottingham Forest ~ Henderson and Neco Williams
  • Aston Villa ~ Bailey, Digne, and Watkins
  • Leicester City ~ Maddison, Iversen(bench fodder)

Bench fodder assets

  • 3.9 Million Goalkeepers: Turner, Iversen, Ortega, and Carson. Iversen the sensible choice as the other three players will block an Arsenal/Man City spot.
  • 3.9 Million defenders: Tomkins, Dummett, Vestergaard, Toti, Mosquera
  • 4.3 Million midfielders: Colback, Elneny, Iqbal, Chukwuemeka. Colback is the best as others are from the big six which will block a spot.
  • 4.4 Million forwards: Greenwood, Archer, Taylor

Key notes about the Draft

  • Template forward line with Haaland, Mitrovic and Kane. Kane’s record against Leicester is too hard to ignore with 17 goals and 3 assists for Kane vs Leicester in 14 games.
  • Mitrovic has blanked only so far this season and he missed a penalty in that game. He’s second behind only Haaland for xG amongst forwards this season.
Stats from FFHUB
  • KDB instead of Salah to immediately target the GW8 fixture vs Wolves. If need KDB can easily go back to Salah in the future gameweeks with a few transfers offering flexibility.
  • Double Newcaslte defence for their good fixture run. They have conceded only six goals in the first six games in spite of playing Liverpool and Man City keeping three clean sheets.
Stats from FFHUB
  • He’s the keeper with the most saves this season(28), most bonus(6) and most BPS(152). In fact he’s fifth amongst all players for bonus and BPS which is amazing considering the fact that he’s a goal keeper. Nick Pope has a great run of fixtures with West Ham, Bournemouth, Fulham and Brentford in the next four games which all have a good CS plus save potential for him. Newcastle have conceded an xGC of 10.77 in six games but have only conceded 6 goals and one of the reason behind a huge difference of 4.77(xGC – GC) is Nick Pope.
  • Perisic is a good option once again after a break in between fixtures, Spurs play early in the UCL KO on Tuesday so he should be starting vs Leicster too in GW8.
  • Martinelli is there to target the Brentford game in GW8 and could be rotated in the upcoming gameweeks for the tough fixture run.
  • James and Fofana in the bench as they blank in GW8, the duo have decent run of games and James should go back to the wing back spot under Potter as well.
  • Bailey and Gordon are enablers with good fixtures. These are the spots you can go differential as well.

FPL GW8 Wildcard Draft 2

Key notes about the Draft

  • Bowen is a great differential with Hammers picking up some form and having a decent run of fixtures. Bowen also is likely on penalties having taken one in the last game with Rice, Antonio on the pitch in their UECL encounter.
  • Isak has had a good start to his PL career and could hit the ground running in the good run of fixtures for Newcastle. From 2 games, he had 3 big chances, xGI-1.42 which looks good from a FPL point of view. Last season in La Liga Isak had an npxG + xA of 0.49 per 90 and also averaged a healthy 1.35 shots per 90, with 45.1% of his shots being on target.
  • Easy route back to TAA/Salah from Perisic and KDB with a few transfers
  • Emerson a good enabler on the bench.

Before going further do vote in FPL GW9 Captaincy Poll below. Haaland returned in GW8 to make it 7/7 successful returns for our Captaincy Metrics this season. Do vote in the captaincy poll for this week below. The captaincy metrics blog from @AK_FPL1 will be posted soon based on the votes.

FPL GW8 Wildcard Draft 3

Key notes about the Draft

  • A bit of a differential draft with three exciting options in midfield. Foden ahead of KDB, Bowen and Almiron in midfield.
  • Foden has been enjoying more minutes this season and has played only 10 mins less than KDB and 27 minutes less than Haaland which makes him an exciting option.
  • Almiron is an exciting option and is very low owned who could offer decent returns operating from the right on the Newcastle attack.

FPL GW8 Wildcard Draft 4

Key notes about the Draft

  • Son has been unfortunate to have not hauled yet this season but he’s surely returning big soon which is the reason behind a Spurs double attack of Kane and Son.
  • The rest of the drafts is pretty much from the above drafts.

FPL GW8 Wildcard Draft 5

Key notes about the Draft

  • A big at the defence draft with Perisic, Cancelo, Trippier, James and TAA. 5 attacking full backs. Going no Liverpool assets might be scary for a few and this draft gives an opportunity to have TAA who’s numbers have been good(Highest xA amongst all defender, 1.38).
  • KDB could also easily go back to Salah with a few transfers.
  • Paqueta from West Ham a huge differential choice to gain ranks.
