If it feels like we’re returning to a full set of Premier League fixtures after ages, it’s probably because that’s the case. Some teams haven’t played a Premier League game in nearly a month now and with a 2-week International Break having brought injuries (Isak) and other fitness concerns (Mitrovic?), one has to wonder how much ‘form’ players are taking from their preceding Premier League appearances, into the next one. Nonetheless, that gives us a chance to mix it up with our FPL Gameweek 9 ~ Buy, Hold and Sell and so here’s 2 picks per category from us.

FPL Gameweek 9 Transfer Tips: Two players to BUY
1) James Maddison (7.9, MID, Leicester City)
Okay, admittedly this one isn’t creative but it sure is a fun pick! Maddison has a combined 0.74 xG and 0.20 xA from his last 4 appearances combined, thus giving him a pretty subpar 0.24 xGI per 90 across that spell. However, he’s still managed to score 2 goals courtesy an excellent finish last week against Spurs and a quality free kick against Southampton. He has some previous for overperforming his underlying xG courtesy his shooting quality from range.
The major reason he’s top of our ‘BUY’ suggestion is the fixture run – NFO, bou, CRY, LEE and wol in his next 5. While he isn’t producing stats to jump off the page for a Leicester side who look pretty poor, he’s the perfect combination of xFixtures and xVibes to recommend on the back of a break from football.

2) Wilfried Zaha (7.2, MID, Crystal Palace)
Despite coming up against Chelsea this week, we think it’s still a good time to jump onto Crystal Palace’s talisman. 4 goals in his last 4 Premier League appearances, racking up close to 0.5xG per game across that spell and entering a dream run of fixtures until the GW16 World Cup break, Zaha should be a priority move in either this week or the next.

FPL Gameweek 9 Transfer Tips: Two players to HOLD
1) Kevin De Bruyne (12.3, MID, Manchester City)
Now you’re probably right to wonder why a premium Manchester City asset with 20 points in his last 4 appearances needs to be in the ‘HOLD’ section – but context is important. With Mo Salah having scored a brace and then returned early from the International Break and up against Brighton, under a new manager, at Anfield – he’s being considered for captaincy this week and rightly so. GW9 wildcarders or FPL players attempting to transfer Salah IN and probably doing so for the premium MID they had instead – and for a lot of managers that’s Kevin De Bruyne. With 74k transfers out this week, at the time of writing, a fair number of managers seem to be making this move.
However, City have looked like the most fluent attack in the league by some distance so far this season and KDB traditionally has fared better at home than away. His next 2 fixtures are Manchester United and Southampton, both at home. If you’re a manager with KDB and considering a swap to Salah – my personal recommendation is to hold for his 2 home games before re-evaluating.

2) Trent Alexander-Arnold (7.4, DEF, Liverpool)
Another premium FPL asset that’s surprising for being demoted to the ‘HOLD’ section, Trent and Liverpool haven’t had a great start to the season by their lofty standards. Liverpool look all over the place at the back and Trent’s attacking threat has diminished compared to previous seasons. On Wildcard or otherwise, its tempting to cut the right back to move funds further upfield – and I definitely see the merits for doing that – but I think if you have Trent, you can probably reconsider to HOLD. Liverpool are back in action at Anfield against Brighton before difficult games against Arsenal and ManCity but then their fixtures soften leading up the World Cup break. Especially now, with injuries from the IB and Arsenal and ManCity blanking in GW12, Trent’s appeal is boosted. There are more pressing concerns elsewhere and I fully expect Trent to be in and amongst the highest-scoring defenders between now and the world cup break.

FPL Gameweek 9 Transfer Tips: Two players to SELL
1) Gabriel Jesus (8.0, FWD, Arsenal)
Still owned by a whopping 71.4% of FPL managers at the time of writing, the Brazilian has started impressively at Arsenal and not much in his form or performances suggest that there’s reason for concern of a dip.
However, FPL is not just about player form but also situations and optimizing small windows of games and that’s why Jesus is a SELL from us. He’s sitting on 4 yellow cards, 1 away from a suspension, has a difficult game against Liverpool up next and also blanks 4 GWs later, in GW12. Thus, especially in the fixture window between GW9 and GW12 but even possibly till the world cup break, we’d expect Forwards like Haaland, Kane, Mitrovic and Toney to all outscore this very highly owned asset – thus bringing in an albeit risky opportunity to climb rank.

2) Pascal Gross (6.0, MID, Brighton)
If you’re in the fortunate position to not have pressing injury moves like Isak to address or just on Wildcard, this seems a great time to jump off Pascal Gross. The German was on fire for Brighton under Graham Potter but Potter now having moved to Chelsea and new manager De Zerbi in charge, we have no idea how Brighton will line up and how players’ roles will change under him.
Furthermore, Brighton embark on a very tricky run of games including Liverpool at Anfield, Spurs and ManCity in their next 5. With budget midfield options like Rashford, Zaha, Gordon and even Sinisterra appearing good to pick, we’d suggest moving off Gross at this time.
