GW1 proved to be high scoring one with the most popular captaincy choice Salah(Who was joint top in our metrics last week) returning a 12 point haul to make it six consecutive returns in GW1. But it was Haaland who stole the thunder from Salah returning a 13 point haul against West Ham with two goals. What was more interesting is that the entire Man City attack was creating for Haaland with all four big chances going to Haaland. This week the captaincy is between Haaland and Salah and without further ado let’s see who tops our FPL Gameweek 2 captaincy metrics.
Metrics Record: 30/38 in 2021/22 Season, 1/1 in 2022/23 Season.

FPL GW2 Captaincy poll ~ Wisdom Of the Crowd
[Total_Soft_Poll id=”59″]
PS: The poll has been slightly slow this week, so do look at the result and then vote. The votes are updated and might take a bit to show on the screen, Apologies for the same.
It’s werid to not see Salah top a captaincy poll but by the looks of it we need to get used to it with Haaland going to be a popular option this season. The Man City forward tops the captaincy poll with 60% of the votes. Salah is the second most popular option with close to 30% of the votes. Salah and Haalnd together got 90% of the votes in the captaincy poll which shows how popular the duo are in terms of captaincy this week. Cancelo, Jesus and KDB round up the top five in the captaincy poll this week.

Underlying Numbers of the FPL Gameweek 2 Captain picks
Haaland was the focal point of Man City attack receiving all four big chances Man City created this naturally means he dominated all the other numbers as well with five shots inside the box and an xG of 1.83. Salah is second with two shots inside the box, one chance created, one big chance and a respectable xG of 0.46. KDB is more of a creator which shows in the chances created column. Jesus was impressive for Arsenal but didn’t have the stats to show for the same, a classic case of passed the eye test with little stats to back that up.
Underlying Numbers of the Candidate’s Teams
Little difference in the team stats between Liverpool and Man City the two popular teams from our captaincy choices. Arsenal are last as they faced a tight Crystal Palace defence who are defensively tight. The data is only from GW1 which should becomes data from the last six games as we go into the season.

Conclusion – Final Rank from our FPL Gameweek 2 Captaincy metric analysis
Haaland comes out outright top of the captaincy metric making him the best captaincy choice according to our metrics. KDB is interestingly second and Salah is only joint third along with Cancelo. The projections and Fixture in favor of the city assets meant Salah doesn’t come out top. Jesus is last this week, it doesn’t mean he’s a bad pick, the indication is the other premiums from Liverpool and Man City are above Jesus in terms of captaincy.
