Top Transfer Ins and Outs ahead of FPL GW 4
The most traffic ahead of the GW4 deadline can be seen towards Leed’s out-of-position midfielder Rodrigo. He had an unreal start to the season and started the season with less than 1% ownership. However, from that, his ownership has gone up to more than 20% already.
Another player with a similar start to the season, who went under the radar was the Brentford forward, Ivan Toney.
On the Transfers out side of the spectrum, many managers lost their patience with Trent Alexander Arnold after Liverpool’s defeat against Ten Haag’s United. Saka and Son, are the other two unexpected transfer outs, as their output over the three weeks was a bit unimpressive.
With that, let’s move on to look at the best three transfer combinations ahead of FPL GW4.
FPL GW4 Tips- Best Transfer Combinations
Transfer Combination 1:
Neto(5.4m) to Rodrigo (6.3m)
To no surprise, the best combination this week is making the move from Neto to Rodrigo. Wolves’ midfielder was a popular pick early on but has no goals or assists to his name. He also gets substituted around the 70-minute mark. Managers are seen losing patience with him and are actively looking to replace him.
Rodrigo’s emergence coincides perfectly with managers starting to remove Neto. Rodrigo has been posting up great underlying numbers and was also entrusted by their coach, Jesse Marsch handing him the armband ahead of their fixture against Chelsea.
Underlying Numbers | Rodrigo vs Neto
Stats (per 90 minutes) | Rodrigo | Neto |
---|---|---|
Goals | 1.51 | 0.00 |
Expected Goals | 0.80 | 0.07 |
Shots | 5.29 | 1.51 |
Shots on Target | 2.27 | 0.38 |
Shots in Box | 4.92 | 0.75 |
Expected Assists | 0.32 | 0.24 |
For a player belonging to the 6m bracket, Rodrigo has been putting up surreal numbers. He has been playing as a forward in Bamford’s absence, giving managers an extra incentive to get him in their teams. He has been central to Leed’s playstyle and seems to be in the form of his life.
Neto has abysmal underlying numbers over the three weeks. Wolves as a team do not look good going forward. They are in the bottom five in the league in terms of expected goals.
Player Heatmap | Rodrigo vs Neto
Rodrigo has also been taking his touches in the more central area. Neto has been cutting inside from the wide areas.
Although Wolves still have decent fixtures on paper, they go against some of the best in-form teams. They play Newcastle and Bournemouth in the next two weeks. After which, they go on to face Liverpool and City back to back in GW7 and GW8.
At the same time, Leeds’ go an incredible fixture run, all the way up until GW10. After Brighton, they go on to face Everton, they are in the bottom half in terms of least xGC. In GW7, they face Nott’m Forest, which is yet another great fixture to hope for returns from Rodrigo.
Therefore, the switch from Neto to Rodrigo is one of the best and most logical combinations, ahead of the GW4 deadline.

Transfer Combination 2
Koulibaly (5.6m) to Ivan Perisic (5.5m)
The second best transfer combination ahead of the GW4 deadline is Koulibaly to Perisic. The Chelsea defender ended up getting suspended in their humbling loss against Leeds. Towards, the end of the match, the frustration cause Koulibaly to pick up a red card, and a one-match ban.
It is not worth benching a player from the 5.5m bracket, for one week, as there is a lot more potential that could help FPL managers gain points. One such obvious option in the game currently is the Spurs’ wingback, Ivan Perisic. Managers could go for the straight swap from Koulibaly to Perisic.
Player Heatmap | Ivan Perisic
The above map displays the touches Perisic has taken in the time he spent on the pitch. At the left wing-back position, he dominantly looks to take more touches in the opposition’s half and final third. He is also on corners and set-pieces, increasing the possibility for him to get more assists.
In GW3, Perisic recorded an xGI of 0.5 and also got all 3 bonus points from the game.
Fixtures | Spurs
Spurs face Nott’m Forest in GW4, after which they face West Ham who are in poor form right now. In GW6, they go against Fulham. These fixtures are decent enough for Perisic to rack-up points. Spurs also look good enough defensively, making clean sheets an added bonus for him.
Before the start of the season, there were concerns regarding his play time and whether he will start the games or not. However, after three GWs he was in the starting line-up against Wolves in GW3 and ended up getting an assist and a clean sheet. With Spurs’ European commitment not coming up until a few more weeks, Perisic looks to be nailed on to start the league games. Therefore, he seems to be the perfect replacement.

Transfer Combination 3
Coutinho (6.8m) to Gundogan (7.1m)
The third best transfer combination ahead of FPL GW4 looks to be the switch from Coutinho to Gundogan. Coutinho has been transferred out by 90k managers already, ahead of the GW4 deadline. He had an under-par start to the season. He has a total of mere 3 points in the season so far. Moreover, Gerrard benched him in GW3 against Palace. Villa also go on a difficult run of fixtures over the next four weeks.
At the same time, Gundogan has put up astounding performances in the past two weeks, scoring two goals. He is just owned by 4% managers! He is a great way to double up on the Man City attack along with Haaland, which could also be a great differential as well.
Underlying Numbers | Coutinho Vs Gundogan
Average Statistic per 90 mins | Coutinho | Ilkay Gündogan |
---|---|---|
Expected Goals | 0.07 | 0.51 |
Shots | 2.83 | 2.70 |
Shots on Target | 1.13 | 0.77 |
Shots in Box | 1.70 | 1.93 |
Expected Assists | 0.01 | 0.14 |
Attempted Assists | 0.57 | 3.48 |
The City mid has a much better xG/90 and conversion rate. He has taken a total of 7 shots and scored 2 out of them. He also looks to be getting into the right position at right time. With so much creativity around him in the City team, he could easily continue or even increase his output. Gundogan also had an xGI of 0.6 and 0.77 big chance every 90 minutes.
Coutinho has taken a lot of shots over the three weeks, but none of them was converted.
Player Heatmap | Coutinho Vs Gundogan
Both the players have more touches in the central area of the opposition’s half. However, Gundogan continuously makes those runs behind the defense, thereby having slightly more touches in the box. He is always looking to make those runs that give him a high chance of scoring.
Although fixtures barely matter to Man City, they have a breathtaking run of fixtures. They face palace, Nott’m Forest, and VIlla over the next three weeks. In fact, all the way up until GW10, they have great fixtures in which they could score a lot of goals.
Therefore Gundogan seems to be a great option ahead of GW4.

Conclusion- FPL GW4 Tips
- Do not rush to transfer out TAA. He still has great underlying numbers and great fixtures ahead.
- The Leeds double-up (Harrison and Rodrigo) seems like a great differential to gain an advantage in your Mini Leagues.
- The team structure with 3 forwards looks strong right now, with the third striker being Toney or Mitrovic, along with Jesus and Haaland.
- Gundogan seems to be the next best option from the City attack after Haaland.
- Be patient with Reece James and Cucurella. Chelsea have amazing fixtures, give them a few weeks before transferring them out.
