It’s officially the time of the season when the finishing line is clearly in sight. With just 4 gameweeks to go, any players FPL managers are bringing in at this point are probably going to see you through to the end of the season. Given the importance that the remaining transfers hold, we’re going to take a look at the teams to target from FPL GW35, and those to avoid for what’s left of the campaign.

Teams and players to target from FPL GW35
Manchester City
Upcoming Fixtures: Leeds(A), Newcastle United(H), Wolves(A), West Ham(A), Aston Villa(H)
You’ll no doubt be shocked to discover that the best team in the league feature as one of the teams you should be targeting.
If you don’t already own Joao Cancelo, he should be invested in immediately. His points total this season speaks for itself and city’s dearth of fit defenders at the moment dictates that he should be rotation proof for the rest of the season. To add to this, he was suspended for the first leg of City’s Champion’s league tie against Real Madrid so he should play every game between now and the end of the season.
In regards to who else to go with, we’d certainly recommend the defensive double-up. As such, Aymeric Laporte £6.0M would probably be the best bet. He has had favoritism from Guardiola this season and now that John Stones is injured, his place in the side shouldn’t be under any threat.
It’s not completely absurd to even triple up on the City defense. Unlike in the attack, where the plethora of options at Guardiola’s disposal means that there will be plenty of rotation, City only have a few fit defenders. Ruben Dias £6.1M should be primed to start every game alongside Laporte and if it emerges that Walker is out for a while as is being rumored, then Olexander Zinchenko £5.3M may even be on the radar. City could very reasonably keep 4 clean sheets in their remaining 5 games so whilst tripling up defensively is a risk, it could be incredibly fruitful.
If you are brave enough to consider an attacker, then the best option is probably Kevin De Bruyne £12.1M. A seriously impressive 56 points in his last 6 starts has seen his ownership increase slightly but he remains a huge differential. His form at the moment is as good as it has ever been and he looks like returning every time he plays.
The glaring issue with De Bruyne is that it’s almost impossible to fit both him and Mohamed Salah into your teams without having to make huge compromises elsewhere. As such, you may wish to come down to the likes of Phill Foden £8.0M, or Riyadh Mahrez £8.7M.
Both of these players could match De Bruyne on any given day. Indeed, Mahrez is City’s top scorer in all competitions so far this season. However, the issue with these two remains that of game time.
It’s almost out of the question that either of them starts every game between now and the end of the season. in spite of this, they still have the potential to match anybody around their price in the fixtures that they do play, such is their potential explosivity. If you are willing to go with one of the mid-priced midfielders, you may be frustrated but the upside could be enormous.

Arsenal
Upcoming Fixtures: West Ham(A), Leeds(H), Spurs(A), Newcastle(A), Leeds(H)
A few days ago, it appeared that Arsenal would very much be one of the teams on the avoid section of this article. However, back-to-back victories away at Chelsea and at home to Man United have reignited their top 4 charge and they are now marginal favorites to beat Tottenham in that race.
At the top of the list of assets to invest in from Arsenal is Bukayo Saka £6.8M. His 13-point haul against Man United on Saturday followed an 8-point return against Chelsea and he has been returning consistently for a while now. To add to his appeal, Saka has taken Arsenal’s last two penalties, admittedly when Lacazette hasn’t been on the pitch, but if the Frenchman remains on the periphery then Saka may well stay on penalty duty.
From a defensive point of view, Arsenal have been far leakier at the back recently, not keeping a clean sheet in their last 5. The return of Tomiyasu to the starting 11 should sure them up considerably though so if you want to invest, either he £4.5M, Ben White £4.6M, or Nuno Tavares £4.3M come into consideration.
The latter is particularly interesting. He is without a doubt Arsenal’s most attacking defender, a goal against Man United from inside the 6-yard box is testament to as much, but he’s probably the player around whom there’s the most risk of rotation so whether or not you opt for him is probably dictated by how conservatively or otherwise you like to play FPL.

Brentford
Upcoming Fixtures: Man United(A), Southampton(H), Everton(A), Leeds(H)
This is probably a slightly controversial one. Brentford are the only team on this list that doesn’t have any double gameweeks between now and the end of the season. What they do have though, is a combination of brilliant form and enticing fixtures coming up so they shouldn’t be overlooked.
In GW35 they play arguably the worst Man United side in living memory before concluding their season with assignments at home to Southampton, away to Everton, and at home to Leeds. This is probably as good a set of fixtures as any team has even without a double.
The most appealing Brentford asset is undoubtedly Ivan Toney £6.9M. Toney received some attention after scoring 5 goals in back-to-back matches against Norwich and Burnley and he followed that up with a goal and assist against West Ham. In GW34 against Tottenham, he was incredibly unlucky not to return, hitting the post and the bar and causing the Tottenham defense all sorts of problems.
We’re all well aware of how easy it is to fall into the trap of double gameweeks. We often invest in mediocre players for the sake of them having two fixtures. In reality, Toney could quite easily outscore the majority of forwards between now and the end of the season, especially given the paucity of forwards not named Harry Kane this season.
Even from a defensive point of view, Brentford are worth having a look at. The likes of David Raya £4.5M may attract attention given their relative defensive solidity. If you’re bench boosting in GW36 or 37, he may not be the worst shout. Rico Henry at the same price may also be of interest given how high up the pitch he often gets.
The majority of you reading this are probably already on triple Liverpool, which is the primary reason for them not being covered above. It goes without saying that, if for whatever reason you haven’t got a full Liverpool quota, you should rectify that immediately. There are the best part of about 8 players you could choose from so there is no shortage of options.

A lot would be wondering why there is no Aston Villa or Everton mentioned above and the reason being Villa although have a double-double the fixtures aren’t very promising, in the remaining six games they play Liverpool, Man City, and Burnley twice(Fighting for relegation and have been in good form), and they have nothing to play for as well. If you got a Free Hit you can target them without having to use a transfer and if you don’t have an FH probably the only asset worth investing in is Coutinho who has had good returns and stats at home!
Similarly, for Everton, the only players to target could be Gordon or Richarlison. One more thing worth noting is the tough fixture that Villa(vs Man City) and Everton(vs Arsenal) have in the last gameweek of the season you probably want to have a lot of Villa/Everton assets going into GW38.
Leicester again have a double-double but they have lots of games to be played in a short period and with a big squad there could be heavy rotation.

Teams to avoid from FPL GW35 Onwards
Aside from the likes of Norwich, Watford, and Brighton among others who have very little ownership anyway, there are a few teams from whom it may be wise not to invest in going forward.
Chelsea
This one may raise a few eyebrows but hear us out. Though many will have tripled up on Chelsea, and understandably so, for DGW34, moving off them may not be the worst idea. Although they have a double in GW36, the second of those matches, Vs Leeds United, comes just three days before their FA Cup final against Liverpool.
It’s quite conceivable that they could play two completely different teams for those matches. Aside from that, their fixtures, though not seeming too bad on paper, are all against teams which something left to play for in the league, something which Chelsea themselves don’t have. Their league form has taken a significant dip recently and a lack of motivation may have played a huge part in that becoming the case.

West Ham
This one requires less explanation. Given that they are very much prioritizing the Europa League now, their league form has taken a significant downturn. Norwich make up half of their GW36 double gameweek so the likes of Bowen may receive some interest but it’s probably unwise to invest in their assets regardless. The reality is that given how tired they are looking, they may even play something resembling a second-string side in that fixture so there’s really no reason to consider them.
Other than these, there are a few teams languishing around mid-table with nothing particularly appealing in the way of fixtures to get excited about. The likes of Newcastle United, Southampton, and Wolves may still have some ownership but a tricky finish to the season probably forces your hand to come off their assets if indeed you do own any.
Leeds United are another team who, despite having a double in GW36, should probably be avoided. Their next three fixtures are against Man City, Arsenal, and Chelsea respectively and it doesn’t really get any more difficult than that.
