Welcome to FPL GW35 Transfer Trends! This is a weekly series where we take a bit of time to analyze some of the major transfer trends on FPL prior to the deadline.
GW34 saw many managers load up on Chelsea assets. The question was: which ones returned? Alonso and Havertz owners rejoice, while Mount and James owners were left with little to celebrate. With the announcement of the City double in DGW36, makes the remainder of the season exciting.

Saturday 30th April 2022 at 10:00 AM BST
We will take a look at the players that managers are rushing to get in their teams, as well as the players managers are booting out. Then, we will dive into three main transfer combinations that could be decent moves to make ahead of the upcoming gameweek.
RECAP of GW34 TRANSFER TRENDS
Rüdiger (1 point) to James (2 points) ❌
Lacazette (1 point) to Pukki (2 points) ❌
Barnes (1 point) to Mount (5 points) ❌
The GW34 moves didn’t really work out, unfortunately. But, of course, we move on to FPL GW35!
Top Transfers Ins and Outs Ahead of FPL GW35
Chelsea defender Rüdiger (111k) remains the top transferred-out asset ahead of the deadline, same as last week, as his fellow teammate Alonso took the spotlight. Saka’s doubt prompted 84k managers to move from the Arsenal midfielder.
The poor recent form of Spurs attacking duo Kane (84k) and Son (63k) sees managers considering other attacking picks. And, finally, Southampton’s Livramento’s long-term injury sees 60k managers looking for replacements.
On the flip side, City forward Jesus (126k) is the hottest prospect for this week, after a stellar 4 goals and 1 assist performance against Watford. Villa duo Cash (92k) and Watkins (79k) see a flurry of managers bring them in as they face Norwich and two consecutive double gameweeks in the next 3 gameweeks.
Watford forward Dennis sees 76k managers bring him in ahead of Watford’s fixture against Burnley and their favorable double in GW36. Finally, Arsenal youngster Nketiah is brought in by 75k managers ahead of Arsenal’s fixture against West Ham.
The 3 transfer combinations we will be focusing on are Schär to Alonso, Barnes to Coutinho, and Livramento to Cash.
Top Three FPL GW35 Transfer Trends Combinations
FPL GW35 Transfer Combination 1:
Fabian Schär (£4.4) to Marcos Alonso (£5.6)
Schär and Newcastle see a tough remaining run of fixtures to the end of the season, facing City, Liverpool, and Arsenal in the next 3 gameweeks. It’s no surprise that managers are looking elsewhere for defensive options. 11.1% of managers have made the swap to Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso.
Alonso was briefly touched upon in comparison to Reece James last week. While the decision behind picking James was backed with decent reasoning, Alonso ended up coming out on top, with an impressive 1 goal, 1 assist, and 1 clean sheet, registering 19 points over the double gameweek. A massive differential pick that paid off for managers who opted for the cheaper Chelsea wingback.
Among all defenders in the last 6 gameweeks, no other defender beats Alonso for shots (15), shots in the box (13), big chances created (3), touches in the box (21), and xGi (0.8). Statistically, no other Chelsea defender comes close to Alonso in all categories.
Being on corner-taking duty, his xAssists potential is boosted. He is a great budget option for those looking to get involved in the Chelsea defense.
Who do Chelsea face in GW35?
Chelsea play Everton away in GW35. According to Drafthound, Chelsea have 39% odds of keeping a clean sheet against Everton. Everton have an xGC of 1.27 and have conceded the 4th most shots in the last 6 gameweeks (96). They are joint 3rd worst for chances conceded from set-pieces (7), which should appeal to Alonso’s set-piece duty. They have only kept 2 clean sheets in the last 6 gameweeks, conceding 9 goals during that time.
With Chelsea’s double on the horizon in DGW36, Alonso and Chelsea assets would be good holds past GW35.

FPL GW35 Transfer Combination 2:
Harvey Barnes (£6.6) to Philippe Coutinho (£7.0)
A player who has gone a little bit under the radar due to recent form is Villa attacker Philippe Coutinho, who is quietly transferred in by 6.9% of managers prior to the deadline.
While he has not registered a single return in the last 5 fixtures, managers looking for an edge could give Coutinho some consideration.
In addition to the stellar fixtures coming up, including 2 back-to-back doubles, Coutinho is the best among all other Villa midfielders for shots (31), shots on target (13), shots in the box (14), xG (0.24), key passes (20), big chances created (5), and touches in the box (35).
AbuBakar Siddiq on Twitter (@BigManBakar) returns again with his perspective on Villa assets to pick, including a brief description on Coutinho’s home and away form.
Coutinho has had a track record of going big against the bottom 10 teams. We also see that his big chance involvements, xGi, and points per game is higher at home games in comparison to away games.
Who do Aston Villa face in GW35?
Aston Villa play Norwich at home in GW35. Prior to the two Double Gameweeks, the Norwich game at home is one that is enticing to target as owners of Villa assets. Drafthound predicts Villa to have 34% odds of keeping a clean sheet, and they have an xGC of 1.98.
They have only kept 2 clean sheets in the last 6 gameweeks, conceding 8 goals during that time. In away games this season, Norwich are worst among all teams for total shots conceded (306) and shots in the box conceded (194). They are 2nd worst for big chances conceded (46), and 3rd worst for goals conceded away from home.
A very favourable fixture for Coutinho and Villa to target ahead of their consecutive double gameweeks.

FPL GW35 Transfer Combination 3:
Tino Livramento (£4.3) to Matthew Cash (£5.2)
Livramento’s long-term injury sees 23.5% of managers make the upgrade to Villa defender Matty Cash.
In GWs27-28, with 28 being a double gameweek, Cash claimed 3 clean sheets, 2 goals and 1 assist, registering 3 double digit hauls consecutively. This season, he is the best among his Villa defenders for shots taken (29), shots on target (9), shots in the box (21), big chances (2), big chances created (3), and touches in the box (81).
As Villa double in both GWs 36 and 37 consecutively, Cash will be a good hold through those gameweeks.
That has been 3 potential transfer combinations that FPL managers could consider prior to the Gameweek 35 deadline. Hope this blog provided a bit of insight on viable FPL moves you could take!
