FPL GW29 Sunday Fixtures Review

While a fair amount of Double Gameweek interest in terms of Captain or Triple Captain was placed in Liverpool and Spurs in their respective games on Saturday, Sunday threw us 6 good fixtures to sink our teeth into. Players with min 0.2 xGI on the day are shown above with their relevant stats. Rather than cramming this up delving into each player, I’m going to focus on players who I think should harbour the most interest for FPL managers either in terms of strong underlying, good fixtures or a combination of both. Here goes!

FPL GW29 Review ~ Lacazette

Lacazette (8.4m, FWD) is one of the most intriguing eye-test vs stats kind of players in my opinion. Having watched him play, he spends a large proportion of the game linking up play deep and facilitating the ball to runners beyond him while not looking like much of a penalty box presence himself and yet he continues to look good on the underlying metrics. He’s heavily outperformed his xA off late and did have a penalty boosting his xG total today but he’s continued to tick along with solid consistency through a nice fixture spell for the Gunners. Here, he had an xGI of 1.27 with 4 shots, 3 from inside the box including a penalty (Worth 0.76 in xG).

Captainable for Blank GW30? Not for me, despite his consistent returns I’d find it very hard to look past Kane or Son.

Gabriel Martinelli (5.3m, MID) is a very strong option in his price bracket and would inevitably have higher ownership if not for the fact that he was suspended for the first game of Arsenal’s DGW26. He had an xGI of 0.73 with 0.14 of it coming from xG via 2 shots, both from inside the box, to go along with his 2 chances created.

Bukayo Saka (6.6m, MID) had a strong 5 shots, 4 from inside the box and 2 chances created for an xGI of 0.37.

Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW30 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has a 24/29 record this year. Stay tuned for the BGW30 Captaincy metric to see who tops it. Link to all our FPL Gameweek 30 blogs.

The results and the captaincy metric blog will be published soon based on the votes.

For Leicester, Harvey Barnes (6.5m, MID) running in behind from the left flank was the only player getting onto this table. He had 2 shots, both from inside the box including 1 big chance for an xG of 0.33 and xGI of 0.49.

FPL GW29 Review ~ Kai Scores

Kai Havertz (7.8m, MID) continued to reward backers with a late winner here and has most likely cemented a first-choice striker spot for himself – but doubts remain whether Tuchel will continue to play his ‘first choice ST’ in the league if crucial cup games are in the mix. 3 shots, all 3 from inside the box including 2 ‘big chances’ and 1 chance created for a massive open play xG of 0.91 and xGI of 0.94.

Besides defense, interest in Chelsea is likely limited at the moment especially with their upcoming blank and rotation but worth noting that today, Mount didn’t cross the 0.20 xGI threshold.

Matt Targett (4.7m, DEF) had 2 chances created for an xA of 0.28 as set-piece taker for a much improved Newcastle outfit.

Jacob Ramsey (4.8m, MID) was part of my bench boost last week giving no returns in 2 games and in a tougher looking fixture today, notched up an excellent xGI of 0.59 from 1 shot from outside the box (a goal from an xG of 0.06) and 3 chances created.

Phil Coutinho (7.4m, MID) had 3 shots, only 1 from inside the box and 1 chance created for an xGI of 0.33 and xG of 0.28.

Ollie Watkins (7.5m, FWD) had an xG of just 0.15 but did have 3 shots, all from inside the box.

For West Ham, Antonio went off injured to compound their troubles with Bowen already on the sidelines but they still managed to pick up an impressive win today. Fornals (6.0m, MID) had an xGI of 0.72 from 2 shots, 1 from inside the box including 1 big chance and 1 chance created

To outline their strong set-piece threat, both Dawson and Kurt Zouma had xG’s of 0.56 and 0.41 respectively.

FPL GW29 Review ~ Raphinha at it again

Raphinha (6.5m, MID) was the furthest forward player for Leeds on average position and had a good penalty box presence. Yet again, it was a frustrating case of epic point-dodging from the Brazilian though he did come away at least with the last gasp assist. He had a day-high xGI of 1.57. He had 3 shots, 2 from inside the box and 1 big chance for an xG of 0.72 but hit the post twice while creating 4 chances including 2 big chances for an xA of 0.85.

If Leeds are to stay up, we’d expect their talisman to finally start showing output in line with very encouraging underlying numbers. A firm ‘hold’ at least for Blank GW30 and a decent shout for Free Hit teams for BGW30 as well.

Teemu Pukki (5.8m, FWD) has been under the radar as a pick but is firmly outdoing Broja in the same price category. He had 2 shots, both from inside the box including an even more last-gasp ‘big chance’ as well as creating 1 ‘big chance’ for an xGI of 0.80.

Wolves overcame a subpar Everton side in a cagey game. Raul Jimenez (7.6m, FWD) didn’t grab any returns but did have 4 shots, 3 from inside the box and 1 chance created for an xG of 0.27 and xGI of 0.28.

Richarlison (7.5m, FWD) was the only Everton player to make this table. He had 4 shots, 2 from inside the box for an xG of 0.25.
