FPL GW16 Fixture Wise Review

Leicester City (2.15) 4 – 0 (1.09) Newcastle United

FPL GW16 Review ~ Leicester vs Newcastle
Heatmaps from FFScout

Leicester, struggling with a mix of Covid and some fitness issues, rolled out a 4-2-3-1 with Patson Daka leading the line and Jamie Vardy on the bench. Newcastle played something akin to a 4-4-2 and were, for the most part.
pretty dire. Leicester took the lead via a controversial penalty but were comfortable all game.

Key player stats from Leicester vs Newcastle united in FPL GW16
Stats from FFScout

Youri Tielemans (6.4m, MID) took a penalty in Jamie Vardy’s absense. The usually deeper-lying midfielder had a very solid 3 shots, 2 in the box and 2 big chances with 0 chances created notching 1.33 xG (0.76 coming from his penalty).

Patson Daka (7.1, FWD) prolific at Salzburg and with another league start due to fitness issues for Vardy, has a knock for getting into positions to get off high-quality shots and that’s what he did here with 1 shot, in the box that was a ‘big chance’ and he also created 1 chance to get an xGI of 0.58.

Maddison was the star of the show

James Maddison (6.7, MID) was the star of the show here from a fantasy point of view. He followed up his impressive performances off late to get 2 shots, 1 in the box and 1 ‘big chance’ created for an xGI of 0.44.

For Newcastle, Saint-Maximin (6.8, FWD) who had 3 shots, 1 in the ‘box’, and created 1 chance for an xGI of 0.20.

Crystal Palace (1.97) 3 – 1 (1.55) Everton

Heatmaps from FFScout

Crystal Palace played a 4-3-3 with Connor Gallagher returning to his role as the furthest forward midfielder, Will Hughes replacing Jeffrey Schlupp in the team and Edouard starting upfront with Benteke on the bench. Everton, still without Calvert-Lewin and with Lucas Digne having fallen out with Rafa Benitez, Everton played a 4-4-1-1 with Richarlison leading the line.

Key player stat review from Crystal Palace vs Everton

Stats from FFScout

Conor Gallagher (6.1, MID) is immense. Reinstated to the furthest forward midfielder role, Gallagher produced a massive 7 shots, 4 in the box and 1 big chance, and 3 chances created for an open play xGI of 1.04. Unfortunate for those who saw his deeper role in recent games and sold, Conor is phenomenal when reinstated into an attacking role.

Star of the show conor gallagher

Jordan Ayew (5.8, FWD) playing as a winger, got 1 shot in the box, a ‘big chance’, and created 3 chances including 1 big chance. He had an impressive xGI of 1.02 for this game.

The only bright spark for Everton in terms of goal threat was substitute Rondon (6.0, FWD). He had 1 shot in the box, a ‘big chance’, and created 2 chances for an impressive xGI of 0.88.

Heatmaps from FFScout

West Ham followed up on their impressive win against Chelsea with a return to a back 4. Burnley played a 4-4-2, Max Cornet still not fit enough to start and Ben Mee returning in defense. Antonio, Benrahma, Bowen and Lanzini started in attacking roles for West Ham, Fornals starting on the bench.

Key player stat review from Burnley vs West ham

Stats from FFScout

In terms of underlying numbers, it was a quiet game from both sides and disappointing from the vast majority of active FPL managers invested into atleast 1 if not 2 players from the West Ham attack.

Bowen (6.5, MID) was heavily bought this week after a double-digit return against Chelsea. The winger managed 2 shots, both from inside the box and 4 chances created but amassed an xGI of just 0.25.

Soucek (5.7, MID) had 3 shots, all from inside the box and created 1 chance for a team-leading xGI of 0.31.

Antonio again failed to feature high on the xGI charts, amassing just 0.14 in total.

Jay Rodriguez (5.2, FWD) had a game-high xGI of 0.34 with 3 shots, all inside the box and 1 chance created.
