FPL Transfers Gameweek 10 Deadline – Saturday 30th October 2021 at 11:00 BST
We will take a look at the players that managers are rushing to get in their teams, as well as the players managers are booting out. Then, we will dive into three main transfer combinations that could be decent moves to make ahead of the upcoming gameweek.
RECAP GW9 TRANSFER TRENDS
Ronaldo (1 point) to Lukaku (0 points) ❌
Jota (11 points) to Mbeumo (1 point) ❌😬
Alonso (0 points) to Chilwell (12 points) ✅
1/3 picks worked well. Chilwell with a massive haul against Norwich! Lukaku and Mbeumo injuries are a cause for concern. We move on to GW10.
Top Transfers In and Out Ahead of FPL GW10
Lukaku’s sudden injury mere days before the GW9 deadline was a terrible shock for owners who were hoping to possibly captain him against Norwich at home, so it’s no surprise that 381k managers are transferring him out following news that he is out for at least 2 games.
Alonso’s 3rd consecutive benching sees 326k managers transferring him out, and Pogba’s red card sees 286k managers take him out of their teams. 233k managers continue to ship Ronaldo out of their teams, and, despite being a popular transfer in last week, Vardy sees 166k managers take him out after he was taken off at half time due to an injury doubt.
Hat-trick masterclass Mason Mount leads the list for top transfers in, with 425k managers bringing the young Chelsea midfielder in. He is followed by Chilwell, with 356k managers impressed with his consistent performance over the last 3 gameweeks.
Foden’s massive 18 point haul against Brighton sees 344k managers eager to bring him in against Palace at home. And, with little surprise, Salah’s outstanding hat-trick against Man United sees another 231k managers bringing the Egyptian midfielder in. Wrapping up the top transfers in list is Arsenal youngster Smith-Rowe (204k), who also enjoyed a decent 13 point haul against Aston Villa.
The 3 transfer combinations we will be focusing on are: Pogba to Foden, Benrahma to Mount, and Alonso to Chilwell.

Top Three FPL GW10 Transfer Trends Combinations
FPL GW10 Transfer Combination 1: Paul Pogba (£7.6) to Phil Foden (£8.1)
Pogba’s red card in Liverpool’s stellar 5-0 victory over Manchester United is a prompt sign for owners to sell the French midfielder, with 22.8% of managers setting their sights on the other end of Manchester: City’s Phil Foden.
And it’s no surprise: Foden has returned in the last 3 games, with 3 goals and 2 assists. His stunning 18 point haul against Brighton rewarded the owners who backed him despite the possibility of Pep Rotation.
He is currently joint 2nd among all midfielders for most shots on target (9), and ranks 2nd for most shots in the box (13). He is also 2nd for most touches in the box (33) (stats taken from GW5, as he did not play from GWs1-4). When playing, he is assigned corner duty, putting him on set-pieces.
At £8.1, he offers amazing value for managers looking to take a punt on a City midfielder. As always, whenever investing in a Man City player, be prepared to anticipate any potential risk of rotation.
Who do Man City face in GW10?
City play Crystal Palace at home in GW10. Sitting at 15th place, Palace have struggled to find winning form in the league thus far this season. While not the worst defense in the league, they have conceded 11 big chances (5th worst), 9 attempts from set pieces (worst among all teams), and 27 shots on target conceded (3rd worst).
Provided Foden starts, we can expect him to fare well against Palace at home.

FPL GW10 Transfer Combination 2: Saïd Benrahma (£6.5) to Mason Mount (£7.5)
Benrahma’s 4th consecutive blank sees 22.1% of managers ship him out for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount. Scoring his first hat-trick in Chelsea’s staggering 7-0 win over Norwich, managers are eager to get in on the mid-priced midfielder, who scored two goals and one assist in his 24 point haul.
Among all midfielders priced £7.5 and below, he is second for xAssists (2.62), probably due to his set-piece duty. He has the most big chances created (5). While taking on a more creative role, he still registered a total of 15 shots, 7 of which were on target, and 8 were in the box.
He is a decent punt on a Chelsea midfielder for their next few games, and he is an asset who may be less affected by Tuchel’s rotation.
Last gameweek, many managers opted for Kai Havertz with news that both Lukaku and Werner were out injured. In the past, Havertz has played in the false 9 role in the absence of a striker, and, against Norwich, he did start in that role but was quite unfortunate to not register any returns for owners. My opinion is, if you have Havertz, it’s worth holding onto him before the strikers recover.
Who do Chelsea face in GW10?
Chelsea play Newcastle away in GW10. Newcastle are 2nd after Norwich for the most goals conceded (20). Additionally, they have conceded 36% of their chances on their left flank, which is the right flank that Mount patrols. Out of all teams, Newcastle are the worst for most big chances conceded (27), 3rd worst for total shots conceded (144), and 3rd worst for shots on target conceded (47).
Mount should be able to get involved in the attack of this game. Chelsea then go on to face Burnley at home in GW11. A decent hold for at least two gameweeks.

FPL GW10 Transfer Combination 3: Marcos Alonso (£5.8) to Ben Chilwell (£5.8)
Making a return to Transfer Trends is Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso, whose 3rd consecutive benching means it is no surprise managers are eager to make the switch to first choice LB Ben Chilwell. A staggering 47.3% of managers have the switch already prior to the deadline.
As predicted in last week’s edition, Chilwell enjoyed a haul against Norwich at home, registering a goal and a clean sheet and rewarding owners with 12 points! This is his third game in a row where he has returned, bringing his tally up to 3 goals and 2 clean sheets in the last 3 games.
Fellow right-wingback Reece James made his return against Norwich after his injury stint and also enjoyed a fair amount of returns, scoring 13 points coming from a goal, clean sheet, and 1 bonus point. For £0.3 cheaper, it can be tempting to go for James instead.
And, while he is not a terrible pick if you are tight on money, if you are able to afford the extra £0.3, it would probably be worth it, given the below comparison between the two defenders:
Chilwell clearly dominates compared to James in almost every area. The amount of shots Chilwell takes is extraordinary to imagine considering he is a defender! The clean sheets are a bonus at this point!
And, just taking a glance at his heatmap once again, we see he is not only a very attacking defender, but he is also on corner-taking duty.
Add on the fact that Chelsea play Newcastle away in GW10, who are shaky at the back. Chilwell’s attacking threat could see him pick up a few attacking returns, with the clean sheet being a bonus.
That has been 3 potential transfer combinations that FPL managers could consider prior to the Gameweek 10 deadline. Hope this blog provided a bit of insight on viable FPL moves you could take!
