FPL GW10 Differential Picks to Consider Ahead of Gameweek 10 Deadline

FPL GW10 Differential Picks

Last Gameweek proved exactly why having differentials in your team could work wonders. Phil Foden and Mason mount put on stellar performances registering 18 and 24 points respectively helping owners gain ranks massively. Likewise, managers who got in Havertz were left without points after the attacker missed out on returns, but it was a good, sensible move that didn’t work out, unfortunately. Getting in low-owned players anticipating a good return is always a high risk and high reward move but that’s one of the best ways to gain ranks apart from getting your captaincy call right. So if you got your differentials wrong don’t beat yourself and always trust your instincts as long it was a good sensible move. Anyways, we are here once again today to look at the best differentials for FPL GW10 who could haul big and help you gain ranks.

Note: All player ownership is from the time of writing. Subject to change closer to deadline.

Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW10 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has an 8/9 record this year. Last week the metric predicted Salah as the best captaincy candidate and he returned once again in GW9 with a double-digit haul. Stay tuned for the GW10 Captaincy metric to see who tops it. Link to all our FPL Gameweek 10 blogs.

The results and the captaincy metric blog will be published soon based on the votes.

FPL GW10 Differential Picks

Phil Foden(8.1) vs Crystal Palace, TSB: 9.4%

FPL GW10 Differential Picks- Foden

First things first, Foden is not playing as a False 9 under Pep in this system but as a proper center forward. 3, 7, 6, 18- These are the FPL points return of a Phil Foden averaging 8.5 FPL points per game since he started playing as center forward from GW6. Foden should be the top pick ahead of FPL GW9 if you are looking for a midfielder in that prize range. Playing for the champion side, which has the second best xG(19.8), second most big chances(27), 2nd for shots inside the box(116) and you have a midfielder prized at just 8.1 playing as forward, Foden should be straight into your team ahead of FPL GW10. City also have a great fixture run on their own having only game against last season’s Top 5(United away in GW11) until GW18.

Foden’s impressive numbers since GW6(When he started playing as a out of position forward):

12 shots inside the box(3rd highest), 8 shots on target(2nd highest), xG- 2.39(2nd highest), 34 points(3rd highest) in the league.

Aubameyang(10.0) vs Leicester(A), TSB: 4.5%

FPL GW10 Differential Picks- Aubameyang

This has been that kind of season with the no proper premium forward available in the longer run with Ronaldo(Tough fixtures), Lukaku(injured), Vardy(Doubtful), Kane(Transfer Saga and slow start). With many FPL managers enough money in the bank, Aubameyang is definitely a good differential shout ahead of FPL GW10.

Key stat(among forwards):

Since GW4, Aubemeyang has 19 shots(2nd), 8 shots on target(2nd), 14 shots inside the box(3rd), xG-3.04(2nd), 4 goals(joint 2nd) in the league.

During the last season, when both Aubameyang and Lacazette started together it looked like Lacazette was playing the striker and Aubameyang taking up the left-wing role thereby reducing Aubameyang’s goal involvement. This season FPL GW8 was the first time both started together in the league and Aubameyang was clearly taking up a more advanced role and Lacazette was dropping in for a more creative role.

Aubameyang(Left) vs Lacazette(Right) in FPL GW9 vs Aston Villa:

  • Minutes- 89 vs 68
  • Shots- 5 vs 0
  • Shots inside the box- 4 vs 0
  • Big chances- 2 vs 0
  • xG- 1.39 vs 0.02

Pro Tip: Playing the fixtures– Arsenal have 2 home games against Watford and Newcastle in the next 4 games. Watford and Newcastle are in the bottom 3 for big chances conceded and xG Conceded in the league this season and Aubameyang would love these games.

Armando Broja(5.0) vs Watford(A), TSB: 1.3%(Update Broja is ruled out)

The blog was written prior to Broja being ruled out for the Watford game. Do skip down to check out our other picks.

Broja is another Chelsea academy player who has got the attention of everyone including us FPL managers. He has started two games in succession replacing another FPL budget striker, Adam Armstrong. Broja has put in great numbers in the two starts he has had and has found the net in both the games. He is expected to start in a 4-4-2 with Redmond partnering him. Ralph Hasenhuttl is using his entire squad this season with rotations becoming a part of his lineup. But he’s also keen on sticking with his in-form players so the risk of rotation is less in the case of Broja.

Broja stats since GW8 amongst forwards:

Shots: 7 (2nd highest)
Shots on Target: 4 (Joint highest)
Shots inside the box: 7 (2nd highest)
Goals: 2 (Joint Second highest)
xG: 1.01
Big chances:1

Now with the next set of fixtures(Watford, Aston Villa, Norwich) looking great Broja could be a great differential to consider in your team ahead of FPL GW10 and beyond.

Reece James(5.5) vs Newcastle(A), TSB: 6.4%

It has been a mixed season for Reece James- Red card, Injuries, 2 goals, and 2 assists everything happening in just 279 minutes of football he has played this season. He averages a goal or assist every 70 minutes in the Premier League this season and Chelsea have not conceded a goal when he is on the pitch(yes he was red-carded and gave away a penalty). Chelsea have conceded just 3 goals from 9 games(Best in the league) this season and a double up in defense is not at all a bad option. It is a tough call to predict if he starts this weekend after playing the Capital one Cup game midweek. But with Tuchel starting him in the big games against City and Liverpool, James certainly looks to hold his spot in the longer run.

Pro-Tip: It is true that, Chilwell has better attacking numbers and more chances for a attacking return than James, but it is definitely a good option to double up on them considering Chelsea’s attacking threat from full-backs.

Ultra differential picks for FPL GW10(<1% TSB):

Unlike previous weeks we have 2 ultra differential picks this time around.

Leon Bailey vs West Ham (H), TSB: 0.6%

Leon Bailey is a seriously good player and he has already shown glimpses of his full potential in just 130 minutes of English football, Bailey has registered a goal and three assists averaging a goal or assist every 32 minutes. He got the assist for the late consolation goal against Arsenal after coming in as a substitute at halftime. Now with a fit Bailey at his disposal, Smith would most likely scrap the five at the back-formation and go back to four-at the back in which they put a better performance against Arsenal in the second half.

Key stat: Bailey operated on the right side of the pitch against Arsenal, he’s up against West Ham who have conceded a whopping 68% of their chances from the left side(Highest in the league) making it an interesting matchup. Bailey has got pace and is a great dribbler which could cause trouble to the Hammers backline.

Joe Gelhardt vs Norwich City(A), TSB: 0.6%

Joe Gelhardt makes the list on the basis on a brilliant cameo in his home debut against Wolves. He passed the eye test and changed the game after he came for the last 28 minutes. He produced a xG-0.53, 1 big chance, 3 shots inside the box, 1 key pass and won the penalty(FPL assist). But the truth to be told, he is not guaranteed a start but could have have a field day even if he plays for 30 minutes against Norwich(Worst defensive team in the league) who are conceding left, right and center. He could your cheeky one week punt for FPL GW10 if you are wildcarding in GW11/GW12 or even come into the picture as an enabler to bring in Son for GW12.

Stat of the day:

Gelhardt had the most touches in the opposition box(11) in GW9 despite playing just 28 minutes.
