In this article we will try to take up one of the recent FPL debates in the community: Should we go With or Without Bruno Fernandes?

Great attacking threats and appealing stats
Before digging into Bruno’s underlying stats we have to highlight the tale saying that the Portuguese is just a Penalty broker.
Bruno finished the last season as the Top scoring FPL player with outstanding performance as he had 32 attacking involvements [ 18Goals ( 9 Pens) + 14 Assists ]. It’s not all about penalties in my opinion, as his attacking threats are
crystal clear. No player created big chances more than the Portuguese (20) while only Mohamed Salah (£12.0m) had goal attempts (126) more than Bruno (121)
Bruno as well had 50 shots on target during the entire season which put him 2nd best behind Salah and with xGi (25.77) (2nd best)

Effective Ownership and Avoiding Early Wildcard
Another factor that may impact your decision to lean towards Bruno is avoiding the expected high Ownership which could be an early rank killer. No doubt, Bruno will be one of the highest owned assets so going without him is a huge gamble and his hauls could be catastrophic for non-owners.

In addition, it’s worthy to consider that if you decided to go without Bruno for a cheaper asset it will be extremely painful to try to get him back either by taking early hits or being obliged to activate your first Wildcard too early which is something that is not preferred.
Manchester United Good Early Fixtures
Man United is ranked 3rd best according to Fantasy Football Scout Season Ticker in terms of Attack Fixtures. The Red Devils will face None of the big six during their early fixtures [GW1-GW7] which could be very appealing to own Fernandes in your Gameweek 1 team.

BruNO Key Factors ❌
Captaincy during the early season fixtures [ GW1-GW6]
Apparently, Mo Salah will be the standout captain in 4 of the first 6 matches when he plays: Norwich(GW1) – BURNLEY(GW2) – CRYSTAL PALACE (GW5), and Brentford(GW6)
Son(£10.0) faces WAT(GW3) looks like the best captaincy option as well as other great captaincy options during the same gameweek: Watkins vs BRE(H) and Antonio vs CRY(H)
Bruno Fernandes should be ideally given the armband when he faces NEW(GW4), So with only one fixture in the first six games it might be worthy to consider going without Bruno for other viable and tempting players
If you set to go without Bruno Fernandes, then this could provide an Extra Premium FPL asset as £12.0m definitely could be used to get other viable midfield options to go in his place and potentially be Son, Mahrez, or Sancho.
Someone may be asking now while reading these lines: Is it really possible to have a good team with no Bruno?
The answer is YES. I managed to do a BruNO draft that provides all that i need to start the season well:
▪ The best captaincy per gameweek
▪ Viable defenders for more rotation
▪ Only one enabler: Brownhill (£4.5)
You can do better drafts with multiple options available so don’t take this as the ideal BruNO draft
Conclusion on whether to start the FPL season with / Without Bruno?
There is no exact correct decision of whether you should go With/Without Bruno in your Gameweek 1 Team.
The key factor here to take the correct decision is how you are
planning to figure out the consequences of :
▪ Playing With him (Lack of other tempting assets like : Kane / Son / Mahrez / Mane / KDB ..etc)
▪ Playing Without him (High Ownership, Early Rank killer, Using the WC early to get him if he started well … etc.)
