Please note the draft is the current version and the allaboutfpl specialists might change it closer to the deadline. The team will be updated in the blog and also on their Twitter accounts. So follow @FPLComeback on Twitter to stay updated!

Goalkeepers:

Sanchez (£4.5m)

Currently owned by 25.5% of players he looks to be a good centre piece for our starting teams. I always swear by starting with only one starting keeper, and that keeper being a 4.5m keeper. Brighton have a fantastic run of fixtures to start the season with and we all know that they are very well capable of keeping clean sheets. I’m expecting a good return from Sanchez early on.

Foster (£4.0m)

Just standard bench fodder. I can’t cope with rotating keepers so I’d rather keep it simple every week and have one starting keeper.

Defenders:

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m)

The most expensive defender in the game but he sure is for a reason. His rise to becoming arguably the best right back in the world has been sensational to watch and he is always involved in Liverpool’s attack. Currently the second most owned defender, he has to be a must within your GW1 team. Liverpool start off against the newly promoted Norwich why is a fixture that can’t be missed. 😍

Luke Shaw (£5.5m)

After having a fantastic last season and a superb Euro’s, he’s currently the most owned defender, owned by 56% of players. All of United’s first 7 games are arguably games they should be winning, and if they do, I’d say Shaw will likely play a key role in helping them on there way. After fighting off 1st team competition from the arrival of Telles last season, he’s a definite starter too.

Matt Targett (£5.0m)

Aston Villa start off with three fantastic fixtures. Away to Watford, then Home to both Newcastle and Brentford. They are facing two newly promoted teams. With Emi Martinez coming off a sensational season last year, I wouldn’t want to go without a Villa defensive asset for the start of the season. Emi’s price at £5.5m is too steep for a GK so I’m happy to settle on Targett in my defence. His price point also allows me flexibility later on to go up or down when needed.

Vladimir Coufal (£5.0m)

Coufal came through and shone last season as a fantasy asset that kept on giving. I was fuming when I let him go last season and he kept on getting assists. He carried this on within the Euro’s and West Ham have some nice fixtures to begin with playing Newcastle, Palace and Southampton within their first 4 games. All games I’d say they should win and Coufal playing as a RWB should be well within the mix.

Daniel Amartey (£4.0m)

With Omobamidele basically ruled out from the pressers, I’ve just put Amartey in. He will just be bench fodder anyway. He will likely move out soon for a playing £4.5m DEF to rotate with another £4.5m DEF.

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m)

What more can be said about this man? He’s the second highest picked player just behind Luke Shaw and he costs a staggering 1/8th of our whole budget. But so so worth it! Having scored 22 goals and 6 assists last season, and away to newly promoted Norwich in GW1, Salah is my captain for sure 👌🏻. I can see Liverpool getting a better start to the season this year, so I’d like to ensure I have at least the double up to start with!

Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m)

He got off to a lighting start for United and has never really stopped. I think the addition of Sancho only makes Bruno a better pick FPL wise. He is involved in everything going forwards for United and is on pens. 18G + 14A with 13 clean sheet points last season can’t be missed. Owned by over 50% of teams also, surely he’s in your team as well?

Mason Greenwood (£7.5m)

These last three midfield slots have changed a lot over pre season. Havertz was almost nailed for me, but after playing well over 90 minutes in the community shield and the arrival of Lukaku, I’ve gone a different way. Greenwood has grown into being on the verge of a starter for United. Another breakthrough season last year, he may have only got 7G + 2A, but that’s not too bad considering he only played 1813 minutes last season. With Sancho only just joining up with the squad, I’m sure Greenwood should be nailed to start with. I thought it was a nice pick into having 3 United assets to start with. I’ve also got the flexibility to go up to Havertz/ Grealish if I want too.

Harvey Barnes (£7.0m)

Another English sensation that has come through into Leicester’s team. Barnes was in phenomenal form before his injury last season. I enjoyed owning him for parts of the season last year and I think he’s a great midfield choice to begin with. Leicester’s opening fixtures against Wolves at home looks too good to not have Barnes in for and Norwich away in GW3 looks sure to bring some action for him.

Josh Brownhill (£4.5m)

Standard bench fodder for me. He should hopefully be nailed and his 2 points off the bench will come in handy if any surprise players are ruled out last minute.

Forwards:

Danny Ings (£8.0m)

A shock came to most of us when Danny Ings signed for Villa out of nowhere. Completion for Watkins? Perhaps not, Dean Smith seems to be pointing at them both potentially playing together up front. A proven PL goalscorer, Ings has always got an eye for goal, but also an eye for an injury, so we need to watch him carefully! He came into some brilliant form last season but unfortunately for injured. As already mentioned, Villa have 3 great opening fixtures which meant I had to have Ings in to start the season with!

Michail Antonio (£7.5m)

There are a lot of option for us to choose from between £8m-£7m for strikers. However, Antonio finished last season well, and although he seems injury prone too- he’s an exciting player to own. One that I’ve looked away from in past seasons, this is a new season, so I thought I’d have him in my squad. There’s flexibility to move him on if he looks poor or gets injured. Callum Wilson is already chiming in my ear, I can hear him!

Michael Obafemi (£4.5m)

Just the last bench fodder place for me. I almost went with 3 starting forwards, but 4-4-2 served me well last season, so to start with, I’m going to go with another bench fodder player to boost out the rest of my squad.

I have also started with £1m in the bank. This is not normally something I do. But the squad I’ve gone with in my opinion gives me a very optimum strategy. I have the ability to move from a £5m DEF > £6m DEF in one move after GW1. Or from a £7.5m MID > £8/8.5m MID which I think could prove good going forwards after we’ve seen some of the teams in GW1.
