Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 | Best Wildcard Draft and Top Picks for MD3

Hey guys and welcome back to my third article with allaboutfpl. Itโ€™s match day 3 and itโ€™s time to wildcard. Or maybe not if youโ€™re not using it. Either way we look at some of the best options for Euro Fantasy matchday 3. Taking into consideration the players and their teams, if their teams are in a position that they need to win to qualify and if I think the players are too big of a character to not miss a game.

So letโ€™s go thorough some of the best picks for Euro Fantasy matchday 3 that include both cheap, premium players and a little bit of both.

Note: This week I am looking to go cheap at the back due to it being the last group stage week and feel like there may not be many clean sheets due to rotation and motivation to score all around.

Goal Keepers for Euro Fantasy Matchday 3

Bachmann Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Bachmann (Austria)

Cost: 4.5 million

A really cheap option so straight away attractive.

Austria have not got an impressive defensive record as of late but play Ukraine in matchday 3.

Ukraine winning only 2 of their last 10 matches show their such an inconsistent team in general.

For me coupled with one of our next goal keeper picks, being cheap, playing for a reasonably good team and playing against an inconsistent team, he becomes a great option.

David Marshall (Scotland)

Cost: 4.5 million

So slightly risky our first pick, but remember all of them are at this price and we want to fill that midfield and forward position with big firepower.

Very cheap and a great option to put that money to more attacking use.

Scotland play a Croatia that have only won 2 of their last 10 matches.

Scotland will be looking to get some respect back after their loss against Czech Republic.

For me coupled with Bachmann and playing the day after, David Marshall becomes a great pick both for value and the fact that if Bachmann doesnโ€™t get the clean sheet you get another shot at it.

Donnarumma (Italy)

Donnaruma Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 5.5 million

A little bit more costly but a little safer. For me I want to go cheap.

Italy have now kept 10 clean sheets in the last 10 matches which is incredibly consistent and arguably the best defence in the world.

Italy who are already through to the last 16 against a wales who are also through makes an interesting match up.

Wales arenโ€™t a team that score a lot of goals. With wales already through they could potentially rest their stars including their talisman Gareth Bale ,also their biggest creator and threat.

Donnarumma although pricey will no doubt have a huge chance at a clean sheet. But is that a million extra that you could potentially use else where ? Maybe.

Letโ€™s move onto defense

Defenders for Euro Fantasy Matchday 3

Gosens (Germany)

Gosens Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 5 million

Itโ€™s exciting that we can finally now look into Germanyโ€™s assets but firstly why Germany? Well after losing their first match against France the pressure is on. For that reason, the chance of big rotation is extremely doubtful.

3 clean sheets in their last 10 matches doesnโ€™t sound great but Gosens offers more than that.ย

Gosens plays primarily as a left-winger for his club Atlanta. 32 appearances with Atlanta scoring 11 goals and creating 6 assists accumulating to 17 goal contributions in 32 matches is quite impressive with his club heat map position below.

Gosens heatmap for Atlanta

Internationally gosens has proven to the manager he has the form to stay in the team and as first choice as well. Scoring a goal and an assist in his last 4 heโ€™s played for Germany in a row starting all.

See gosens heat map below showing his positioning for Germany lately.

Gosens Heatmap for Gemany

At 5 million pound and up against Hungary who were walked over my Portugal in their opening game he offers 2 routes to points both clean sheet and attacking threat , making Gosens a must for those matchday 3 teams.

Maehle (Denmark)ย

Maehle Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 4.5 million

At 4.5 million Maehle was in a lot of managers team within the fantasy community in matchday 1. After an awful and emotional situation Denmark let the game slip away with a 1-0 loss at Finland although Denmark hugely dominated the game Maehle looked very attacking. See the heat map below against Finland, youโ€™ll see he played Left winger for the majority of the game.

You will also see below his versatility for club Atlanta in the heat map below showing just how attacking he is.

Weโ€™ve now confirmed that Maehle shows great attacking threat. Combine that with the fact that Denmark have kept 6 clean sheets in their last 10 matches, play against an inconsistent opponent in Russia for MD3 and being cheap as chips, Maehle surely comes into that team.

Danielson (Sweden)

Cost: 4.5 million

Sweden were completely dominated in the opening game against Spain but looked so solid.

At 4.5 million Danielson is a really good option.

Danielson playing the last 3 games in a row for Sweden assuring reliability of minutes.

With 4 clean sheets in the last 5 matches Sweden look solid defensively and play against an inconsistent team in Poland with their main man lewandowski out of international form.

With 2 clean sheets and even a goal for his country in his last 3 Danielson offers some attacking threat when the clean sheet isnโ€™t there.

At 4.5 million playing for a compact team you canโ€™t complain. With looking to go all out on attack he has to make the team.

Pau Torres

Cost: 4.5 million

Pau Torres has no doubt become first team choice over Garcia as of late. Playing the last 2 out of 3 matches.

Playing for his club Villarreal featuring in 33 games Pau Torres scored 2, created 2, and kept 11 clean sheets accumulating to 15 returns in 33 matches but now playing for a much better side Spain.

Spain having kept 3 clean sheets in a row now and absolutely dominated Sweden with their passing and actually breaking the record when they started in 1980 for their total passes in the game.

Spain play an inconsistent Slovakia in matchday 3.

Taking his price into account and in a very good side defensively he seems like a no brainer.

Spinazzolaย

Spinazzola Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 5.5 million

Similar to donnarumma in price in terms of the fact that if you have a different game plan and want to put some money into your backline , Spinazzola is your man.

Italy have started their Euros campaign with 2 clean sheets on the bounce. In fact as already covered, a huge 10 clean sheets in their last 10 matches showing a high chance of the clean sheet already justifying his price.

Going forward youโ€™ll see again from the heat maps below just how attacking for club and country Spinazzola is.

Spinazzolaย heatmap for club:

Spinazzolaย heatmap for country:ย

Spinazzola offers huge threat going forward and always a high chance of the clean sheet. Italy already through to the knockout stages offers slight risk of a rest but high reward.

Meunier (Belgium)

Cost: 5.5 million

4 clean sheets in the last 10 matches for Belgium isnโ€™t fantastic but playing against a Finland side who are arguably one of the worst sides in the tournament and their opening win being arguably due to the danish emotions after the Eriksen incident.

Finland only winning 3 out of the last 10 matches theyโ€™ve played and only scoring 1 goal in their last 4 matches shows their lacking bite in front of goal. In fact were completely dominated by both Denmark and Russia, 2 teams who arguably wouldnโ€™t usually be dominating matches.

With a goal, an assist, and a clean sheet in his opening match Meunier shows both extreme attacking ability going forward adding to the already likely match day 3 clean sheet.

Belgium may already be through so thereโ€™s a slight risk of rotation but with Castagne missing due to an injury Belgium may just be lacking options.

Ricardo Rodriguez (Switzerland)ย

Ricardo Rodriguez Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 5.5 million

Another player I think could be a really good option this week for countless reasons.

Yes itโ€™s another pricey option but you now have more options to build that matchday 3 defence.

Switzerland have started off their campaign at the euros slightly off. Although they took the draw against wales they were dismantled by a world class Italy team. They next however play turkey.

Turkey have started off their Euros campaign even worse than Switzerland with 2 losses against both Italy and wales. Wales hugely dominated turkey in their second game which made me believe turkey are done and dusted.

Turkey only scoring in 2 out of their last 5 matches are showing diminishing offensive form and arguably might not have the fight or belief in them to give Switzerland a tough match.

Ricardo Rodriguez playing Switzerland last 7 out of 8 matches showing reliability in starts.

Itโ€™s also a huge bonus that Rodriguez is also the Swiss penalty taker adding a huge amount of potential Robbie returns against turkey.

See below the positions Rodriguez likes to take up for both clubs and country below.

Ricardo Rodriguez heatmap for Club:ย

Ricardo Rodriguez heatmap for Country:ย

An assist a goal, and 2 clean sheets in his last 6 matches reflect his potential returns against a poor turkey team if you can afford it. Taking penalties is also an exciting prospect.

Midfielders for Euro Fantasy Matchday 3

Havertz (Germany)

Kai Havertz Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 9 million

Germany lost their first match against France as discussed already and need to win against Hungary to guarantee qualifying to the last 16. Meaning that we will see very little if not any rotation at all.

After just winning the champions league with Chelsea, Havertz will be eager to impress on the world stage once again for a team who in their last 10 matches have scored 20 goals averaging 2 goals scored per game.

Havertz playing 5 games out of the 6 matches played for Germany showing first team reliability and minutes assured against Hungary. In the 5 matches he did play creating 3 assists and scoring 1 goal showing great recent form.

Their opponent Hungary. Great form over their last 10 but after being rolled over 3-0 by the french we have to look at the game Hungary didnโ€™t lose and they were all against poorer sides who struggle to even qualify for a major tournament.

Young and hungry Havertz gives both assists and goal threat being a perfect asset to attack that unsteady Hungarian defence.

Gnabry (Germany)

Gnarby Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 9.5 million

We have already established Germany are prolific goal scorers in terms of goals scored on average.

27 games played for Bayern this year and scoring 10 goals and 2 assists in that time with 12 goal contributions in 27 played.

Youโ€™ll see from his club heat map below that Gnabry offers his nation more than just goals and assists. He offers great versatility playing everywhere on the pitch in terms of attack.

Gnabry for Germany is a positional god send within the game. Labelled as a midfielder but on occasion playing as both part of a front 3 and on his own as a forward.

Playing 9 out of Germanyโ€™s last 10 matches secures his first team position and nails him to the team. Within those 9 matches scoring 3 goals and creating 1 assist accumulating to 4 goal contributions in 9.

A huge 7 goals and 1 assist in the 8 matches he played during the qualifying rounds with 8 goal contributions out of 8 showing that against the weaker/low block sides similar to Hungary he can prevail with high returns.

Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium)ย

KDB Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 10.5 Million

Firstly Belgium have not failed to score a goal since 2018 29 matches ago which straight away is fantastic.

4 goals and 7 assists in the qualifying stage , creating 11 goals in 6 games.

More recently for Belgium 4 assists in 2 goals following the 4 games he played in after Euro qualification.

So within both periods combined 6 goals and 11 assists in 10 matches working out at 17 goal contributions for Belgium in the last 10 matches he has started which is incredible.

KDB picked up and injury which pushed him out of the first game and is only just recently getting back into training. Belgium through to the last 16 or not will be desperate to give arguably their best player some minutes in matchday 3 and we all know what he is capable of.

Finland are the opponents. They have already won a match against Denmark meaning qualifying is possible. This means we could see a different and even more open Finland side.

Finland conceding 14 goals in their last 10 matches with 7 of those in the last 5, combined with KDBโ€™ attacking stats could be give huge potential returns fo the premium midfielder.

Chiesa (Italy)

Chiesa Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 7 million

You might be surprised to see his name in this list or not. The fact is Italy are now through and chiesa has been substituted on in both previous Euros matches suggesting he is top of the list to start the final match. Youโ€™ll see this reflected in his stats below.

A very attacking player in a big side , Italy only failing to score once in their last 20 matches shows that a country which was once stereotyped on just having a good defence now known for scoring plenty.

Chiesa featured in 6/10 euro qualifying matches for Italy he got 1 goal and 3 assist.

This season however for juventus chiesa has truly grown as player maturing and developing his talents at just 23 years old.

As you can see Chiesa has amazing versatility on the pitch which is a managers dream. You can also see from the heat map heโ€™s highly used in both wing positions as a playmaker.

33 starts this season for Juventus showing he could become a reliable attacker for the national team creating 9 goals and 9 assists this season for his club.

For me Chiesa becomes as good an option as any other Italian attacker if not more due to the fact heโ€™s not started a match yet. Weโ€™ll likely see mass rotation by the Italians and I think chiesa will start.

Shaqiri (Switzerland)

Shaqiri Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 7 million

Weโ€™re all aware Switzerland have had a rough start in their Euros campaign as mentioned already only taking a point from 2 matches. From this Switzerland will be desperate to win their next match against turkey.

Turkey have conceded 15 goals in their last 10 matches with 5 of those goals conceded in their last 2 showing poor defensive form. In fact turkey need to win this game to give themselves any hope at all of qualifying so will open up at the back for Shaqiri to take advantage of.

Shaqiri starting 9 out of Switzerland last 10 nails him to the starting lineup especially because this is a must win. With 1 goal and 3 assists in that time shaqiri hasnโ€™t been prolific but still returned. But we know this game against turkey is especially different to the last 9 he played with it being a must win.

For me with a great price, fixture , motivation , set pieces and need to win Shaqiri becomes a fantastic option.

Perisic (Croatia)

Perisic Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 8.5 million

Croatia are very inconsistent at the moment but what they are doing is scoring goals whether they lose or not.

In the euros qualifying round Croatia scored 17 goals in the 8 matches they played, more than 2 goals per game. Perisic scoring 3 goals and creating 2 assists within that period totalling 5 goal contributions in 8 games which is good.

More recently in their last 10 matches scoring 14 goals they have continued their scoring form with Perisic scoring 2 goals and creating 1 assist in his last 3 matches for Croatia.

After losing to England Croatia now potentially go into a game (similar to their opponent) against Scotland who have to win. For me when a team has to win as already mentioned in the article that team becomes more open at the back.

Scotland, his opponent have conceded a goal on average per game conceding 10 goals in their last 10 matches.

With Modric supplying from behind, a fantastic fixture and the need to win , Perisic becomes a great option for Matchday 3.

Wijnaldum (Netherlands)ย

Wijnaldum Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 8 million

Just to note that this player has been in every single article I have wrote about the Euros and has been for lots of reasons.

I wonโ€™t go into as much detail as previous because it becomes repetitive. Wijndaldum scoring, assisting and being a first choice midfielder is my first point.

Secondly we know he plays positionally in a very forward role , loves to shoot , hitting more shots than any other Dutch player which is great because we want shooting players in our teams.

Wijnaldum is a constant no brainer in my weekly teams and in a scoring team like Netherlands fully justifies his selection further.

Playing against North Macedonia in matchday 3. A team that just conceded 3 goals to Austria who are arguably average going forward against a statistically lethal combination of Wijndaldum and depay reflects the potential in this match.

Forwards for Euro Fantasy Matchday 3

First we will begin with the risk free strikers.

Dzyuba (Russia)ย

Dzyuba Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 8.5 million

After 2 games Russia won one and lost won meaning they probably have to get a result in their last group game against Denmark and likewise with Denmark , they will also be coming into this needing a result to qualify, providing lots of space for Dzyuba to take advantage of.

11 goals in their last 10 matches played for Russia so scoring 1.1 goals on average per match meaning they are more than capable of scoring.

27 matches played for his club zenit, scoring 20 goals and creating 6 assists accumulating to 26 goal contributions in 27 matches which is fantastic.

Dzyuba is the talisman of Russia at 32 years old. The man that gets Russia winning games and that showed in the last match against Finland getting an assist for the winning goal.

Dzyuba has played the last 7 matches in a row for Russia and within that time scored 3 goals and created 2 assist with 5 goal contributions in his last 7 matches.

Dzyuba has the height and toughness to get past a proven danish defence. The fact that Denmark need a result from this shows there will be space for Dzyuba to do more than just out muscle people to score.

At a reasonable price , a great fixture arguably Dzyuba has the stats for both club and country to get you some good returns here.

Isak (Sweden)ย

Isak Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 8 million

Sweden started the tournament being great defensively after being completely dominated by Spain and still the player that stood out was Isak. Showing skill and pace to get into scoring positions that unfortunately his team couldnโ€™t put away.

14 goals scored by Sweden in their last 10 matches ,averaging 1.4 goals per game scoring against teams like France and Croatia.

Isak is an exciting new prospect so there isnโ€™t much data in terms of reliability for minutes but stands out like a sore thumb in an average attack with Sweden.

Playing 34 matches for Spanish club real sociedad the 21 year old scored 17 goals and created 2 assists with 19 goal contributions in 34 matches.

Sweden no doubt will need a result from their match against opponents Poland who have conceded 14 goals in their last 10 matches, conceding 2 goals in each of their last 3 out of 4 matches showing extremely poor defensive form recently.

Isak shows through club record he can score goals. Looking the most dangerous player on the pitch including the Spanish players, Isak showed the world he is capable at high level. With fixture and motivation Isak could really do well here.

Moreno (Spain)

Gerrard Moreno Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 6.5 million

Spain are no doubt peeved about losing their first match against Sweden. Moreno arguably had a better season than competition for place Morata.

Moreno for Spanish club this season gone played a total of 33 matches in la liga scoring 23 goals and creating 7 assists adding to 30 goal contributions in 33 games which is pretty incredible especially playing for Villarreal.

Morata as of late had missed countless opportunities and the manager and the fans frustrated with the dominance of the team with no end product could see Moreno start this final game especially if their already through.

Spain are yet to play matchday 2 but if they get a result you could weโ€™ll see Moreno given a chance to shine against Slovakia.

Slovakia recently beating Poland as unlikely group qualifiers could really push Spain leaving the space for Moreno to strike.

Slight risk in 6.5 million Moreno but very very cheap. I feel he is ready to push out Morata from that first team position and prove his club form on a global stage.

Kalajdzic (Austria)

Kalajdzic Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 7.5 million

Firstly Austria have already won their first game with the help of Arnautovic who is now fit and returns after a one match ban for matchday 3.

Austria scoring 15 goals in their last 10 averaging 1.5 goals per game are capable or scoring.

Going into matchday 3 against the Ukraine they have a good chance of qualifying to the last 16.

For club kalajdzic played 33 games for Stuttgart scoring 16 goals and creating 5 assists accumulating to 21 goal contributions in 33 matches , impressive in a usual poor German side.

Playing the last 6 games in a row for Austria showing his reliability in minutes and first team. Scoring 3 goals in that time without main provider Arnautovic due to injury.

With Arnautovicโ€™ return it offers Kalajdzic more creativity to toward his potential.

Playing against a Ukraine side who have conceded 15 goals in their last 10 and needing a result potentially this is the perfect chance for kalajdzic to shine.

Lukakuย (Belgium)

Lukaku Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 wildcard draft

Cost: 11.1 million

Again similar to Wijndaldum has made every article I have produced for EFF.

His scoring and creating is barely matched around the world other than maybe Kane or lewandowski for club.

He is proven for both club and country that is without a doubt in the top 3 strikers in the world for forward ability.

Coming up against a very weak Finland side who again have conceded 14 goals in their last 10 and conceding at least 2 in their previous matchups against counties with a high fifa ranking.

Lukaku is a slight risk because Belgium are basically through to the last 16. However his huge personality on and off the pitch could suggest he plays and doesnโ€™t let the manager rotate him.ย

Euro Fantasy Matchday 3 Best Wildcard Draft

Best Wildcard Draft for Euro Fantasy Matchday 3
Best Wildcard Draft for Euro Fantasy Matchday 3

So guys there you have it. I have not included England because already the attack players are too rotational and knowing Southgate as I do (the England manager) he has a tendency to rotate 8-9 players when he feels that is enough, which for me will be the case of England as are looking like going through.

The list is a list consisting of mainly players I think will need to play to secure qualification  or game time with the exception of players like lukaku who undoubtedly are worth the risk.

Thank you for reading the Euro Fantasy matchday 3 Widcard draft article, I appreciate it. Until next time.ย
