To the viewers surprise, the highest-scoring goalkeepers have mostly been a part of the midtable teams. With Emiliano Martinez becoming the second-highest scoring goalkeeper of all time, let us dive into the past and gain an insight by looking at the previous top scorers each season.

Highest scoring FPL Goalkeepers in a single FPL season since 2002/03 (season wise):
2002/03(187 points) – Brad Friedel
The very first season of FPL saw some brilliant goalkeeping heroics from the Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel. With 15 clean sheets to his name, Friedel was monumental to Blackburn’s season helping them achieve the 6th position. Friedel is still the highest-scoring FPL goalkeeperS to this date with 187 points. His fantastic performances earned him Blackburn’s player of the year. He also cemented his place successfully in the Premier League’s starting XI of the season. A couple of years later Friedel also went on to score a goal from a corner kick against Charlton Athletic. He was the second player to have achieved such a feat after Peter Schmeichel in 2001.

2003/04(171 points) – Edwin van der Sar
The legendary Dutch goalkeeper Van der Sar used to play for Fulham from 2001-2005. Being a mid-table team, they only conceded a total of 46 goals and 15 clean sheets. Fulham secured 9th position that season, thanks to his brilliant saves and amazing reflections. A bunch of spectacular seasons from the Dutchman caught United’s eye and we saw him getting swooped away by the Red Devils.

2004/05(178 points) – Petr Cech
One of the most influential figures of Chelsea, Petr Cech arrived in London in 2004. Since then, Cech has went on to become the greatest goalkeeper in Premier League history with a total of 202 clean sheets to his name. Under the special one Jose Mourinho, Petr Cech kept 24 clean sheets that season. Such defensive quality was never seen again with Chelsea only conceding a total of 15 goals with a ratio of 0.39 goals conceded/game. With Cech in helms, they only lost a single game away to Manchester city with a score of 1-0. This masterpiece helped them win their first ever Premier League title and Cech won the golden glove for the season.

2005/06(168 points) – Edwin van der Sar
Manchester United signed Van der Sar in 2005 for 2 million euros. He went on to become a legend for the Red Devils after his heroic performances from time to time. Although United failed to win the league title that year, the Dutch goalkeeper topped the FPL charts with 18 clean sheets to his name. After finishing 2nd in the league in 2005/06, Manchester United won the Premier League titles consecutively for 3 seasons in a row and Van der Sar went on to become one of the most beloved goalkeepers for Manchester United.

2006/07(173 points) , 2007/08(167 points) – David James
Former English footballer David James started his Portsmouth career with a bang. He kept clean sheets in the first five appearances and went on to become Portsmouth’s player of the year for that season. James also holds a total of 169 clean sheets to his name only behind the legendary Petr Cech. He topped the FPL charts consecutively with 12 clean sheets in the 2006/07 and 16 clean sheets in the 2007/08 season.

2008/09(175 points) – Mark Schwarzer
The Australian goalkeeper played for Fulham helping them achieve the 7th position with his remarkable display throughout the season. He holds the record for the highest no. of appearances being a Non-British player in the Premier League. He was also a part of the fairytale season of 2015/16 when Leicester won the Premier League. Although he didn’t make a single appearance that season missing out on the winner’s medal.
2009/10 – Pepe Reina(164 points)
Pepe Reina is remembered as one of the greatest goalkeepers in the premier league history. He won 3 golden gloves back to back from 2005-2008. In the 2009/10 season he kept 17 clean sheets for Liverpool and conceded only 35 goals. He was also tied with Petr Cech for the golden glove but the latter won it with a better goals/game ratio.

2010/11(175 points), 2011/12(166 points), 2012/13(158 points) – Joe Hart
Joe Hart was an absolute FPL delight in the earlier FPL days topping the goalkeeping charts for 3 seasons straight. Hart is considered as one of the key figures in Manchester City’s emergence in the Premier League. He replaced one of the best FPL goalkeepers Shay given at the start of the 2010/11 season and thus started his journey by winning 2 Premier League titles and 4 Golden Gloves during his stay with Manchester City. With the arrival of Pep Guardiola in 2016, Joe hart lost his place in the squad become a second-choice goalkeeper for Spurs.

2013/14(160 points) – Tim Howard
In the 2013/14 season, Everton was one of the clubs who gave the top 6 a good competition. Everton finished 5th above Spurs and Manchester United. The feat couldn’t have been possible without Tim Howard who made some outstanding saves throughout and kept 15 clean sheets. Howard is remembered as an American Soccer Hero and he has his name amongst the few goalkeepers who have scored a goal.

2014/15 (151 points) – Lukasz Fabianski
Fabianski moved from Arsenal to Swansea in 2014 to play as the first-choice goalkeeper for the team. Quite spectacularly, his performances including 13 clean sheets contributed to them finishing 8th that season. 2013/14 is his highest-scoring FPL season. Since then, he has consistently given more than 100 points each season missing out only once. Currently, with 124 points, Fabianski is playing a crucial role at West Ham and might be one of the top choices for goalkeeper selection next season.

2015/16 (159 points) – Petr Cech
Arsenal bought Petr Cech from their London rivals, Chelsea, in 2015. Although Arsenal lost the title race to Leicester, Cech contributed with 16 clean sheets only conceding 31 goals that season. His consistent goalkeeping won him the golden glove that season. With his astounding performances, each season it’s extremely surprising to know that Cech achieved the highest goalkeeping returns in a season only 2 times since 2002/03.

2016/17(149 points) – Tom Heaton
Burnley finished 16th that season where Tom Heaton was the highest-scoring goalkeeper conceding 55 goals and keeping only 10 clean sheets. This is the lowest ever score produced by top-scoring FPL goalkeepers. With a starting price of 4.5, he made a total of 142 saves earning him 21 bonus points that season. He is currently at Aston Villa but highly unlikely to start next season with Martinez at helms.

2017/18(172 points) – David De Gea
David de Gea really shined in Mourinho’s second season with the Red Devils. He kept 18 clean sheets and United only conceded a total of 28 goals that season earning him the golden glove that season. De Gea’s form hasn’t been the same since then. This season the Spaniard hasn’t even crossed 100 points with Dean Henderson competing him for the first choice spot.

2018/19 (176 points) – Allison Becker
Alisson arrived at Liverpool for a fee of 66.8 million euros making him the most expensive goalkeeper of all time now broken by Kepa. Alisson topped the charts in his debut season with a starting price of 5. He kept 21 clean sheets only conceding 22 goals that season and Liverpool finished second that season only 1 point short of Manchester City. Alisson won the golden glove award that season. With Van Dijk coming back to the defense next season, Alisson will be one of the top FPL goalkeepers to look for in FPL.

2019/20(170 points) – Nick Pope
Nick Pope is amongst the very few FPL goalkeepers who has performed consistently even after being a part of a mid-table team like Burnley. Pope kept 15 clean sheets that season conceding 50 goals. He earned a total of 23 bonus points that season making a total of 120 saves. He has consistently offered good points to his FPL owners with a total of 152 points back in the 2017/18 season. Even in the current season where Burnley is on 17th position, Pope has accumulated a total of 144 points missing 5 games. Pope is one of the few gems who can heavily reward the owners next seasons.

2020/21(186 points) – Emiliano Martinez
Aston Villa bought Martinez from Arsenal and since then he has proved to be one of the most prominent figures in the squad. With a starting price of only 4.5, Martinez has marked his place in FPL history as the goalkeeper with the second-highest points of all time. He only fell short of 1 point against Brad Friedel who achieved 187 points in the first-ever FPL season. Martinez accumulated 15 clean sheets only conceding 46 goals. The Argentinian goalkeeper has provided a total of 27 bonus points this season, only behind Bruno Fernandes and Harry Kane. Such rewarding returns make him the best choice goalkeeper to hold on for the next season with the hope that he will be able to surpass Friedel’s heroics from the debut season.

2021/22(176 points) – Alisson Becker
Alisson shared the golden glove for the 2021/22 season with his Brazilian counterpart with 20 clean sheets each. He missed two games during the season due to injuries. Alisson was instrumental in Liverpool’s second place finish and ended up with 15 bonus points which was also the highest among goal keepers. For overall points, Lloris finished second among goal keepers with 158 points while Ederson finished third with 155 points.
Fun Fact-
Alisson got an assist in GW26 when he assisted Mo Salah in the 3-1 win vs Norwich. He was one of the 3 goal keepers to get an assist that season with Jose Sa and Foster being the other two. Alisson also got a famous goal in injury time vs West Brom in the previous season to help Liverpool qualify for Champions League.
2022/23(166 points) – David Raya
David Raya finished as the Highest scoring Goalkeeper in the 2022/23 season with 166 points and helped Brentford finish at 9th. Brentford kept only 12 clean sheets, but what stood for Raya was the save and bonus points. He was Top among all keepers for Bonus Points(20) and Saves made(152).
Second on the list was Alisson with 160 points who was rested for the final game of the season. De Gea the Golden Gove winner(17 clean sheets) finished 3rd with 161 points.
2023/24(153 points) – Jordan Pickford
Everton stayed up in Premier League despite a 8 point deduction- Thanks to a good defense and Pickford heroics. Pickford kept 13 clean sheets for Everton with only Raya keeping more clean sheets than him among GKs in the entire league. Pickford also managed 121 saves from 38 games averaging more than 3 saves/game.
Out of these 13 clean sheets, 9 of them came at home- Highest in the league.
