Hey guysย ๐ย @FPLReaction here. Itโs great to be writing for another fantastic Fantasy Football account amongst some amazing writers well known within the FPL community.ย
I just want to briefly touch upon the fact that this article will be about the content I create already outside the walls of allaboutfpl who have now asked me to write some articles for them from now on. Weโll also discuss my season as a whole in the FPL community including rank, captaincy, hits, and much more. Also my future plans with allaboutfpl and again other content. All to give you a better introduction to me in general to give you a better idea and the sort of person I am with the community.ย
Firstly I just want to say thank you to those following me on my journey with my first ever season of fantasy football because lets be honest here, itโs been a bumpy road this season for many in terms of FPL managers and for obvious reasons,ย ย everyone else. Has this put me off my first season? Definitely not.ย
Let me just ask myself some basic questions to give you an idea how crazy my first season has been
Why did I start playing FPL?
I started FPL because a bunch of friends wanted me to play, I wasnโt keen but agreed anyway. They wanted me in the league so would be last and they wouldnโt Basically. I treated the first 13 weeks of playing very casually, missing deadlines, taking huge hits, and just generally didnโt understand how to play the game.ย
At what point did I take FPL more seriously?
It was actually around the time I came into the Twitter community around game week 14. Seeing the way everyone on Twitter treated the game felt serious but in a really positive and competitive way.
What FPL content did I consume?ย
A lot. I think for a large part of the the game weeks around game week 14 and onwards FPL took over my life in terms of planning and consuming 5-10 podcasts a week and 3-4 YouTube channels a week as well as reading everything on Twitter.ย
So thereโs a little more into the transition to FPL and the community, letโs look at a few huge lessons I learnt:
Team bias
A huge problem with supporting Chelsea this year is that we were very active in the window and I decided to transfer in Werner, Havertz, and Ziyech and stayed with them for a long time more supporting than expecting returns which again you canโt do in this game I have learnt.
Captains
Generally connected to everything in regards to my season in an especially negative way. Linking in with the Chelsea bias and punts because it was those players for the first 13 weeks of treating the game like nothing at all that I was backing with the armband with Werner and Havertz sharing the armband 7 times between them during that time, another example as to why the first part of my season was so damaging to my overall rank long term.ย
Chips
Another vital piece to the success of a season or rank I have learnt this season but as you can see a lesson learnt too late. Wildcard being used in game week 2, triple captain in game week 6, and bench boost in game week 8. If only I knew at this point that double game weeks actually existed. This shows again a disregard to the game and lack of knowledge that could now be so useful for the game weeks gone by. Youโll see that after that when I did have that knowledge I used my other chips in very significant weeks and with gain in terms of rank on both occasions in both a blank week and then using the wildcard tactically prior to a double game week which saw me hit three 90-100 points in a row. This shows that with having the knowledge in terms of when to use the chips it could seriously impact your season.
Hits
Youโll see between game week 3 and 13 I took 27 hits calculating at 108 points in hits. Shocked? It wasnโt until I hit realized how to play the game properly and entered the FPL community and realized how shocking and damaging this would be to my rank. But when I did the evidence was clear.
Youโll now see above that from the time I started taking the game seriously around game week 14 -25 and actually, within 12 weeks I had only taken 12 points in hits so just 4 points hits. Thatโs a 96 point difference from playing as a casual to playing seriously, a huge gap.
Rank
Combining all of the above you can now see how that had an impact on my overall rank and you will see a massive impacting difference.
3 -4.2 million seemed to be a hole I was stuck in and again taking into account the hits, punts, captaincy punts you can see above.
4.2 million โ 700k between game week 13 to around now. The progress is evident from the above image game week 14 is again the game week I started to take the game seriously, started learning, listening to podcasts, etc. The point where the game went from nothing to everything. The point that saw me rise 3.5 million places in the worldwide overall rank.ย Great progress but the damage was already done. Having no first wildcard, triple captain or bench boost had stopped me from gaining any more serious rank which I now realize thatโs what there for, which sounds silly.ย
Concluding my journey
With all of that in mind you can see that I have been on quite the journey in terms of hits , captaincies , chips and just generally every FPL choices that had to be made. I am now as we stand still climbing and still pushing with the knowledge that previous decisions and no chips available have really tarnished my chances of a great first season finish. This has now put me in a risky frame of mind where no having to punt to get a good finish has caused me some further damage. I now currently sit at 580k which doesnโt seem impressive and is not where I want to be but itโs a rank when compared to my first part of the season I can look back on and think I did well to claw back.
Next season
I am already now not only looking forward to the euro fantasy football but the next season of FPL. Carrying all the lessons I have learnt and playing my first full season as a serious player next season excites me and makes me wonder what rank I could reach with the knowledge I know now
What content do I do?ย ย
So to start I consider myself lucky to be in a position where I can provide so much content especially knowing itโs my first season in FPL.
Dream Team Tonic @DreamTeamTonic:
A great bunch of guys who made the very first plunge and asked me to do some content for them.
My dream team tonic Blog
I started writing my journey and blogging with dream team tonic half way through the season here you can catch my weekly FPL entries including the points projection feature , team lineup , captaincy and transfers take a look here
There you will find all of my entries and see that I do game weekly blogs revealing my team lineup including captaincy and transfers. I also recently introduced a new feature called projected points. This is where I try and project/predict individual player points and team total points for a bit of fun but backed my stats and opponents.ย ๐คซย Iโll let you in on a secret, my last projection was 108 points and I returned 110 pointsย ๐ณย crazy right? Anyway, my blog is where youโll find my fully locked-in team that wonโt change after itโs posted.
The FPL Reaction Podcast
A podcast as well in my first season? Ridiculous youโre probably thinking but itโs happened and I love doing it. Itโs again with dream team tonic, game weekly and usually intended to preview the previous game week and preview the next game week (team returns, rank progress) in which we also discuss exciting assets, lock in our predictions, discuss everything from the game week gone and ahead and lots more features.ย
I say we because I have a great cohost called max @maxiarsenal on Twitter, give him a followย ๐ย
So a podcast as well if your interested hereโs the link below:ย
PICK 3
This is a game I created before all the content started and a game I created for interactions and to bring a positive fun light to the FPL community.
It works by after I post on Twitter with the photo above with the rules and my own selections attached before a game week starts you (the player) comments 3 players you think will score (accumulate) the most points together. Itโs as simple as that with the winner getting a shout-out on Twitter and the FPL Reaction podcast in a chance to grow themselves within the community and interact more in general.
Making Threadsย ๐งตย
I love making threads to help people decide on players, captaincy, transfers, etc as shown above for the community. You may recognize my account from my most recent thread and probably my most successful one ever in terms of reaction.ย
Whatโs coming?ย
So thatโs me guys and thatโs what youโll get from following my journey. On top of that, youโll also be getting articles similar to my content and brand new articles coming with allaboutfpl over the next few weeks in regards to the exciting EFFย ๐ฅย (Euros Fantasy Football game).
