Two years ago, I was at Selhurst Park watching Palace vs Bournemouth on the final day of the Premier League season. Both teams were safe in mid-table and ‘on the beach’. A ‘boring’ Crystal Palace against an ‘out of form’ Bournemouth side with neither team anything to play for left me worried about a dull game of football. 90 minutes later I had seen 8 goals, some brilliant attacking play, and a game to remember. Palace ran out winners 5-3 on the day and ever since I have always believed that goals will always happen on the final game of the season as teams look to attack. In this article, I will be picking out 3 fixtures I believe will have goals guaranteed on the final day.
FPL GW38 Fixtures to Target
West Ham vs Southampton
West Ham are still chasing a Europa League spot and will go into this game looking for a big win in front of their home fans for the first time in a long time. Antonio, Lingard, and Benrahma will be looking to finish the season on a high and continue their good form. Southampton in contrast have nothing to play for but that seems to have let off the shackles. Scoring three against both Palace and Fulham recently the Saints are looking back to their free-flowing best. Danny Ings and Jesse Lingard will both want to make a last impression on Gareth Southgate and both sides will be playing attacking football. I expect goals and an exciting game for the fans attending the London Stadium.
Best options – Antonio, Lingard, Ings.
Liverpool vs Crystal Palace
This is a huge game for Liverpool. After a comfortable victory over Burnley, the top 4 finish they really need is firmly in their own hands. Salah, Mane, and co will be going at it all guns blazing on Sunday to confirm that top 4 place for Liverpool. They face a Crystal Palace side who will be playing their last game under Roy Hodgson. Palace will want to give Roy a send-off he will remember by scoring a few goals against one of his former clubs. Both sides have been poor defensively all season long and I expect nothing to change here with both sides wanting to score goals. Especially Liverpool in front of their fans and going for that final top 4 positions. Mo Salah will be extremely motivated as he goes for the golden boot also and I think he will get it.
Best options – Salah, Mane, Zaha.
Leeds vs West Brom
Two sides who have had contrasting seasons. Leeds have been extremely impressive all season and will want to show their fans exactly how far they’ve come since they last were at Elland Road. Bamford, Harrison, Raphinha will be keen to put on a show for the fans.
For West Brom, it has been a disappointing season but Big Sam will want his players to show him what they are made of if they are going to be part of Sam’s plans next season. Matheus Periera has been tipped for a move to another Premier League side so he will want to show all clubs interested in what he has got. Leeds played West Brom off the pitch in the reverse fixture in a 5-0 hammering. I’m expecting more of the same this time around with goals on the menu.
Best options – Bamford, Raphinha, Harrison, and Periera.
