BGW36 has just ended, and for many managers (myself included), the end couldn’t come quick enough. Luckily there’s a quick turnaround this week. It’s time to look forward and get planning for GW37.
In this article, we look at the top 3 transfer trends ahead of GW37. This week, we can see the transfer trends show people buying players from Man United, Man City, Leeds and Liverpool . The top 5 transfers OUT come from Liverpool, Man City, Aston Villa, West Ham and Man United.
FPL Transfers Gameweek 37 Deadline – Tuesday 18th April at 18:30 BST
This Transfer Trends series focuses on analyzing the top 3 transfer combinations within the topmost transferred IN and OUT players.
Top transfers in and out ahead of FPL GW37
With the news that Diogo Jota will miss the rest of the season, it’s no surprise to see him dominate the top transfers OUT spot. As a result 216k managers have sold Jota so far. 45k have sold Dias – the most transferred OUT DEF so far, with another 45k selling Watkins – the 2nd most sold last week and this week. Lingard (38k sells) and Son (35k sells) close out the Top 5 Transfers OUT.
Greenwood tops the most bought this week, with 79k buys so far. His teammate Bruno Fernandes comes in at 4th place with 49k buys. The highest points scorer in BGW36, Ferran Torres comes in just behind Greenwood, with 72k buys so far.
After a 16point haul in BGW36, Jack Harrison comes in 3rd with 61k buys. Last but not least, Alexander-Arnold closes out the top transfers IN this week with 45k buys so far.
As a result, the 3 transfer combinations we’re focusing on are; Jota to Greenwood, Dias to Alexander-Arnold and Lingard to Willock.
Top Three FPL GW37 Transfer combinations
Combination 1: Jota To Greenwood
First up, the combination that features the most transferred OUT player, Diogo Jota. The most transferred OUT player, meets the most transferred IN. 59% of Greenwood buyers have made the move from Jota this week.
Between GW31-36 Greenwood is the highest points scorer in the game with 48points. In addition, he is the joint highest goal scorer (5) during this time frame. Along with his 5 goals, Greenwood managed to grab 1 assists between GW31-36.
Unquestionably Greenwood’s underlying stats within this timeframe show he’s been clinical in front of goal. He comes in 8th for Shots (19), while coming in 4th for Shots in the Box (16). Looking at his accuracy though, Greenwood ranks 3rd for Shots on Target (11). In particular, we see his clinical nature through his xG stats. In the last 6 weeks, he had an xG of 2.90, so his 5 goals represents a +2.10 versus his xG.
Who do Man United face in GW37?
Man United are at home to Fulham in GW37. Although already relegated, Fulham’s defensive abilities tend to surprise. This is illustrated with their stats in the last 6 matches (GW31-36) as they rank 5th strongest for Shots Conceded (59), 7th strongest for Shots Conceded in the Box (42) and 8th strongest for Shots on Target Conceded (25).
While these stats show that Fulham haven’t given up a huge amount of shots, they conceded 9 goals and didn’t keep a clean sheet. In addition, only three other sides failed to keep a clean sheet in the same period – West Ham, Southampton and Newcastle.
Along with this, the main issue that Fulham have, is that they give up too many big chances. While they haven’t given up a huge amount of shots in the last 6 weeks, they rank 4th for Big Chances Conceded (15) and 1st (10) over the last 4 matches. Obviously, giving away big chances against a clinical player like Greenwood could prove very costly for Fulham.

Combination 2: Dias to Alexander-Arnold
The second combination we’re focusing on is Dias to Alexander-Arnold. The transfer trends show 20% of Dias sellers have moved to Alexander-Arnold so far.
With Dias missing out in BGW36, this has prompted managers to sell the CB and it makes sense. He has only played twice in the last 6 weeks and picked up 3 points. Alexander-Arnold is the obvious replacement. The Liverpool man has been in great form over the last 6 weeks, to return 43points – the most for defenders in this period.
In his last 6 matches, he scored once and ranks 1st for assists (4) for all defenders. Additionally, his underlying stats solidify how impressive he’s been of late versus all defenders. He ranks 1st for Shots (14) and 2nd for Shots on Target (4). In particular, it’s his creativity stats that really show how impressive he’s been. He ranks 1st for Key Passes (22) and Big Chances Created (3) to go along with his 4 assists. Without a doubt, these are the kind of numbers you want in your team.
Who do Liverpool face in GW37?
Liverpool are away to Burnley in GW37. Burnley showed real defensive frailties in BGW36, shipping 4 goals at home to Leeds. Furthermore, if Nick Pope is out for GW37, this could continue. In the past 6 matches (GW31-36) they rank 6th for Shots Conceded (98) and 7th for Shots Conceded in the Box (63). As well as that, their defending of headers has been an issue too. They rank 2nd for headed attempts conceded (21) – Alisson owners take note!
In the same timeframe, Liverpool are 4th for headed attempts and 1st for headed goals scored. With Alexander-Arnolds crossing ability, Burnley might concede a few more headed attempts.

Combination 3: Lingard to Willock
The final combination we’re looking at is Lingard to Willock, with 20% of Lingard sellers having moved to the Newcastle man.
Bursting onto this season’s FPL scene in GW22, Lingard’s form has dropped off as of late. He’s now gone 4 matches on the bounce without a return. He was always out performing his underlying stats, and now it’s seemed to have caught up with him. He doesn’t feature in the top 10 midfielders for shots (15), shots on target (6), shots in the box (7) or big chances (2) (GW31-36). To add this this, he’s now underperforming on his xG numbers (GW32-36). Something he was smashing a few weeks back.
Willock has been smashing his xG (2.05), after scoring 4 goals in GW31-36. These 4 goals can only be bettered by Wood, Greenwood, Torres and Iheanacho (all on 5) in the same period.
One thing to note here is that Willock has only played 203 minutes in this period after only making 4 appearance – 2 as a sub. Both appearance off the bench returned a goal. Another two goals came in GW35 & 36 after starting both matches.
His underlying stats don’t blow you away versus all midfielders due to his limited minutes. When you look versus Newcastle players however, you can see he’s right up there. Willock ranks joint 2nd for shots (8) and big chances (3), and joint 1st for shots on target (5) and shots in the box (8).
Who do Newcastle face in GW37?
Newcastle are at home to Sheffield United in GW37. Sheffield United frustrated Everton in BGW36 to secure a 1-0 win. Their defensive numbers up until this match were one of the worst, but the clean sheet has helped slightly. In saying that, they still rank 5th for Shots Conceded (98), 4th for Shots in the Box (67) and 3rd for Shots on Target (39) between GW31-36.
In the same time frame, they have conceded 15 big chances and 10 goals. If they continue in this manner, it could prove costly for them as Newcastle rank 4th for Big Chances (16) and have scored the most goals (13) between GW31-36.
With two favourable fixtures (SHU & ful) and an eye for a goal, Willock could be a great replacement for Lingard in the final two games of the season.
l look forward to hearing your thoughts and discussing your transfers in the lead up to the Gameweek 37 deadline at 18:30 BST on Tuesday 18th May.
