Kane. Son. Bale. | Worth Tripling up On Spurs Ahead of FPL GW28?

Spurs FPL assets- Brilliant form:

The current Spurs situation reminds me of the purple patch last season, where the Kane-Son-Alli triple up was the talk of town, with Spurs putting 5 past Burnley. In their last 3 games, Spurs have scored 9 goals conceding just 1, with the trio of Kane, Bale and Son scoring/assisting 8 of them. As the big boys have started coming good for Spurs I dive deeper into stats, quotes and best possible bets going into GW28.

Firstly, looking at Spurs as a team on the whole – They’ve created 10 big chances (1st) in their last 4 games, a major improvement from just 3 in the previous 4. The return of Harry Kane after a minor blip has a big part to play in that, and the no.10 is as talismanic as it can get. They seem far more incisive in the final third with Bale  making frequent runs into the box through the right, as Son drifts wider towards the left. This has led to Son turning provider on more occasions posing a larger assist threat (6 BCC in the last 4). Defensively, they’ve conceded 3 goals in their last 4 with 2 clean sheets, as opposed to just 1 clean sheet in the 7 before.  Their defensive improvement also brings into conversation Sergio Regulion, who bombards down the left consistently, more on him following diving deeper into the big 3.

Before I look into either of these players, I would like to mention all 3 of these guys are fantastic assets on current form, and maybe the best thing to do would be to hold on to who you have, especially if you’re on the Kane-Son or Kane-Bale combination. With Spurs playing Arsenal next, with a tasty fixture against Villa in Gameweek 29, let’s take a look at Kane, Son and Bale.

Harry Kane (11.3M)

Harry Kane- Spurs FPL assets
Harry Kane got 19 points against Palace

The obvious choice. Harry Kane is central to everything Spurs do, is on penalties and is making a proper claim to win Player of the year alongside the likes of Bruno and Dias. He scored 2 and assisted 2 against the Eagles, and this sounds crazy but he could’ve had more. He’s had 6 of the 10 big chances Spurs have created, also assisting 2. Moreover, he seems to be a bonus point magnet, and is guaranteed to play 90 minutes. I don’t believe in the concept of FPL Must-haves, but Kane is as close as it gets. Another reason to have him is the lack of premium striking options with Vardy, Martial, Aguero barely firing at all. Plus, he fancies Arsenal, with 10 North London derby goals in all comps already, and one more makes him the highest ever scorer in the fixture. Here’s a Harry definitely doing it right.

Spurs midfielders:

Gareth Bale (9.4M)

The golf enthusiast can play quite a bit, eh? Who would’ve thought. That’s the thing about talent, it is what it does. Erik Lamela (5.7M) and Lucas Moura (6.6M) have been solid workhorses for Mourinho starting most games during the first half of the season as Bale settled for a place on the bench. But what Gareth Bale has is special – the bicycle-kick in the CL-kinda- special, and he’s been bringing it these last few weeks. 4 goals and an assist in the last 3, consistent runs in the box, 3 big chances, all taken, and a dangerous partnership with Kane and Son brewing, Gareth Bale seems like a great pick, albeit relatively short term in my mind. Considering his fitness issues, and limited game-time, I don’t expect him to uphold these numbers.

We were looking at each other saying, ‘How many more minutes? Five minutes more or 10?” – Mourinho on Bale after the Palace game. The fourth official was laughing at us.

Most of Mourinho’s takes on Gareth Bale have involved heavy protection, time management and injury prevention. It is safe to assume he will be rested and protected at every opportunity, and it would be wise to keep a lookout for Spurs’ European fixture on Thursday night. Gareth Bale seems to be in fine form, but at a hefty price tag, he does come across as a relatively upside chasing option with ownership at just 6%.

Son Heung Min (9.6M) :

Son- Spurs FPL assets
Son Heung-Min

At a whooping 55%, Son is currently the second most owned player in FPL. With just 3 assists and a goal in his last 9, he has slowed down a little as in comparison to the first few game weeks this season. However, recent numbers and upcoming fixtures seem to suggest a big haul to be coming soon. He has drifted towards the far left consistently, taking up more of a creative role with 6 BCC in the last 3 game weeks. I really fancy Son to find some joy down that left hand side, as his next two opponents do seem to have some pressing issues around that area. Cedric and Bellerin have not entirely convinced consistently sharing game time, and Matty Cash is still out for Villa. Son combining with Regulion down that left hand side should be productive for Spurs. Priced similarly to Bale, Son is much more nailed to play 90 mins, and he embodies the work-horse like Mourinho spirit. This is really comforting for owners as stats per 90 minutes become of lesser significance once Son plays almost 30 mins more than Bale per game.

Triple Trouble?

Wales. Golf. Madrid.
Kane. Son. Bale. In that order.
Wales. Golf. Madrid.
Kane. Son. Bale. In that order.

With an extra fixture against Villa in GW29, a Kane-Son-Bale triple up isn’t entirely out of question. However, I believe it could slightly imbalance your overall team if you aren’t sitting on a Wildcard chip. With almost 30 million of your funds invested in Spurs, it more or less confirms that you won’t be able to have the likes of Kevin De Bruyne in a free-scoring City side, or Mo Salah for some attractive fixtures starting Gameweek 30, or Bruno. Even though the upside is huge, Spurs faltering isn’t entirely out of question which can have severe consequences on your game week. Having a wildcard chip makes this option more attractive with easy ways out for Bale and Son with a blank game week 33. With Man City and Spurs both blanking in Gameweek 33, and most of us having 3 City assets, it will be difficult to find ways out for the Spurs front 3.

However, I believe, there is more than enough reason to get into Regulion as the 3rd Spurs player. He forms part of an improving defense, and bombards forward at every given opportunity. He has crossed the ball 9 times creating one big chance. Reguilon has also recorded 2 shots inside the box in the last 3 gameweeks which proves he has been marauding forward regularly. He seems to be the preferred choice to Ben Davies and rotation risk is existent but low. Hence, a safer bet than the triple up on the Spurs front 3.

With a lot of pros and cons with each of the options less Kane. I believe the best thing to do would be to hold on to who you have, and not make parallel transfers like Son to Bale or vice versa.

I’m not one for strong opinions, but if I had to make one, I’d rather make it tongue-in-cheek, so here we go :

Wales. Golf. Madrid
Kane. Son. Bale.
In that order.
