The fact that Liverpool and Manchester City play each other in FPL GW23 makes captaincy choice that much more trickier. On paper, Spurs fixture against West Brom stands out. But the Baggies good away form coupled with Spurs lack of it without Kane gives us a headache. However, some of the other sides in the top half of the table have some favorable fixtures. Here’s a look at some of the best captaincy options for FPL GW23.
FPL GW23 Captaincy Poll:
FPL GW23 Captaincy Picks
Bruno Fernandes vs Everton(H)
After returning just one assist in five matches, it was back to business as usual for Bruno Fernandes against Southampton last time out. This season’s FPL top scorer returned 17 points( 2 assists 1 goal) as United ran riot against 9 men Saints.
In FPL GW23 he takes on his favorite opposition, Everton. Bruno has scored 3 goals in his 2 matches against the Toffees and has also got an assist to his name. Crucially, all of those 3 goals came from open play too.
Despite his barren run in the last month and a half, Bruno has been returning points fairly consistently at home, for a change. in fact, the Manchester United man has registered 4 goals and 4 assists in his last 5 matches at Old Trafford.
One caveat though is the fitness of Jordan Pickford. Watch out for Carlo Ancelloti’s press conference and if he hints at the return of their number one shot-stopper, do not even hesitate to captain Bruno.

Bukayo Saka vs Aston Villa(A)
Saka is one of the most in-form players in the league over the past month or so. Since GW15, the youngster has 4 goals and 3 assists in the league. Only Ilkay Gundogan has come up with more goal contributions in that time.
Saka was extremely unlucky not to score in his last match against Wolves. The Arsenal man hit the post, had a goal ruled out for offside by an inch and forced Patricio into a sharp save from another effort. Truth be told, he could have got a hattrick on another day at Molineux.
Saka takes on an Aston Villa side in FPL GW23 that has been pretty poor defensively off late. Believe it or not, in the last six matches only West Brom(12.86) have a poorer xGC than Aston Villa(12.31).
One of the major weaknesses for Villa has been their left side. Jack Grealish tends to cut inside and doesn’t help out Targett defensively. The likes of Wan Bissaka, Lingard and Bernardo Silva have exploited that side recently. Bukayo Saka would be looking to do likewise, he certainly has the form to do so.

Michail Antonio vs Fulham(A)
It is beyond believability that Michail Antonio has failed to score post DGW19. In the last 3 matches, Antonio has an xG of 1.72, he has had 3 big chances, 9 shots in the box and 4 shots on target. But, all he has managed is 3 assists in that time.
Now there is two ways of looking at this, one, he is out of touch, there is a big haul waiting in the wings. We are more leaning towards the latter, given what we have seen from him under Moyes.
Looking at Fulham’s defensive numbers gives us more hope. The Cottagers have conceded 19 big chances in the last 6 matches, no other side has conceded more in that time.
Antoino has scored in both of his matches against Fulham in the league. Surely, FPL GW23 is the time for Antonio to return to scoring ways.

Son vs West Brom(H)
Normally, Son would be the first pick for captain, especially considering he faces the worst defense in the division. However Spurs’ performances in the last couple of games in Kane’s absence is a huge cause for concern.
That being said, you would expect Spurs to bounce back and if they do so then definitely Son is going to be at the heart of it. The South Korean likes facing newly promoted clubs. He has been involved in 16 goals (9 goals, 7 assists) in his last 15 appearances against such clubs.
Pro Tip: I would captain Son if I were to have him in my team because of the fact that West Brom leak a lot of goals. However, I wouldn’t be looking to bring him in this GW, if I don’t own him.

Patrick Bamford vs Crystal Palace(H)
If you had watched the reverse between Crystal Palace and Leeds you would ask yourself “How on earth has Bamford come back with just one goal?” Indeed, he scored one goal, hit the crossbar once and had a goal freakishly ruled out for offside.
Despite a perception that Bamford struggles at home, he has returned in all but one of his last five home games. All the numbers point to the fact that he has been slightly unfortunate not to score more goals at Elland Road.
Crystal Palace go into their FPL GW23 fixture with just one clean sheet on the road all season. And Bamford is all set to pile more misery on Guaita and the Eagles. Oddly enough, Bamford fancies scoring against his former clubs. In fact, he has scored against Chelsea, Burnley and Crystal Palace themselves. Will he make it four in a row?
