FPL GW3 Saturday round-up & Review | ALLABOUTFPL

Another Gameweek, another shocker for a lot of FPL managers. Four games are done and the average points tally is a paltry 15. That is largely because of the fact that popular picks like Werner, Martial, and James blanked. And on top of that another goals galore weekend meant that there was only one clean sheet in the 4 games combined. Let us now look at some of the talking points from FPL GW3 so far.

FPL GW3 Saturday Fixtures Review

Penalties Galore

FPL GW3 Review
Penalties aplenty to start the season.

This has to be the first talking point for sure. FPL GW 3 has seen three penalties awarded in 4 matches already. That means that 16 penalties have been awarded in 22 matches this season. Staggering. That means from an FPL point of view getting in as many penalty takers as possible is a must.

You should be worried if you own Man UTD assets in FPL:

Manchester United came away with a win at Brighton, but my word were they lucky. United scored 3 goals from 4 shots on target while Brighton hit the post 5 times, yes you read that right! This is the most number of times a team has hit the post since Opta started recording stats in 2004. With Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton to come in the next 5 games, it is better to stay away from Man UTD assets.

As for Brighton, they look like a side who are going to do well this season. Neal Maupay(6.5) scored his third goal of the season in as many games and Brighton have good fixtures coming up and he is certainly one to keep an eye on.

Time is up for Timo after another disappointing outing in FPL GW3

FPL GW3 Review - Werner disappoints FPL Managers
Another disappointing outing for Werner as he disappoints FPL Managers

It has a disappointing start to the season for Chelsea new boy Timo Werner as he fails to score for a third Gameweek running. He did however hit the woodwork in FPL GW 3 against West Brom. But is it get rid of him from our sides? Yes, it is. The underlying numbers are simply not in his favor. The German has a xG of 0.32 and has had only 1 big chance in 3 matches. He has already had a price drop overnight, but is still owned by 34.2% of managers.

West Brom looked impressive again going forward, much like their last game against Everton. Pereira(6.0) grabbed an assist for the Baggies as he took his season tally to 2 for the season. West Brom have a decent run of games coming up in the next 4 Gameweeks and Pereira is the best option if indeed you are looking to bring in a West Brom player.

Everton are the real deal this FPL season

FPL GW3 Review - Richarlison on penalties
Richarlison outshines DCL and James as Everton win again

Everton made it three wins from three following their victory against Crystal Palace on Saturday. James Rodriguez(7.6) blanked again at home but Richarlison(8.0) and DCL(7.4) both scored for the Toffees in FPL GW3. Now the biggest talking point is the fact that Richarlison is on penalties for Everton. That begs a question? Who do we pick? Richarlison or DCL? Let us look at some numbers:

Richarlison in Numbers:
Goals: 1
xG: 1.94
BC: 3
SiB: 11
A: 3
xA: 0.92
Points:
22

DCL in Numbers:
Goals: 5
xG: 2.75
BC: 5
SiB: 12
A: 0
xA: 0.53
Points:
31

The numbers suggest that Richarlison is under performing and DCL is overperforming. There isn’t much difference between the duo on the face of it. Having said that, Richarlison is on penalties. As a result of which he is the better option among the two. But if you can’t afford him then you can go with DCL. Ultimately, both of them could end up getting a similar amount of points.

Danny Ings does it again and proves FPL Managers wrong:

FPL GW3 Review - Danny ings scores again
Ings can match the heights of last season

Before the start of the season, many were suggesting that Che Adams is a better option than Ings as he is 2.5 mil cheaper and he could get as many points as Ings. But Danny Ings has put that debate to the end once and for all. Following his goal at Turf Moor in FPL GW 3, Ings took his tally to 3 for the season in 3 matches. Indeed, he has scored all of Southampton’s goals.

Much to relief of FPL managers, Southampton finally kept a clean sheet after two bad outings. Spare of thought to those managers who transferred out McCarthy(4.5) following the debacle last week.

The strategy of 4 or 5 at the back is simply not working in FPL this season

Three at the back is the way to go, for now at least

We have just had 9 clean sheets in 22 matches this season. Whether it is because of a farce handball law or just a deterioration in quality of defending, defenders have simply not returned points. And we are seeing goals being shipped left, right and center. It is time to reassess and switch to a 3-4-3 formation or a 3-5-2 formation.
