Gameweek 25 was just a nightmare for FPL managers as all the usual reliable options barring Salah and Sheffield United assets let us down. That meant the average points for this week was a paltry 47. Let us look into the top five talking points from GW25 and our Dream team.
#1 Keep faith on Leicester assets
This is a really tough choice to make for FPL managers. Leicester City has had a dip in form and the likes of Jamie Vardy and James Maddison aren’t showing the kind of form they showed a month or so back. Having said that the Foxes were unlucky not to beat Chelsea in Gamweek 25, as they played really well and deserved to win the game.
Why to retain Leicester players? Firstly, Brendan Rodgers’ men have a tremendous run of games coming up from GW 28 up and until GW 33. This is the period in which other top teams distracted by busy with European football whilst Leicester have no such distractions. Secondly, Leicester have a very winnable fixture in GW 28, the weekend where ManCity, Aston Villa, Sheffield United and Arsenal blank. So do think hard before selling their players!
Fixtures: WOLVES(A), MANCITY(H), NORWICH(A),ASTON VILLA(H), WATFORD(A), BRIGHTON(H)
#2 Defensive Magpies
One of the headaches for managers post Gameweek 25 is how to fit in a defender from Newcastle into our sides. Defense is one area where there are lots of reliable options for managers this season. But we insist managers to find a way to bring in defenders from the Magpies ASAP. There’s two reasons for this. One, Newcastle have a terrific set of fixtures coming up from GW 27. And two, a vast majority of their goals are scored by defenders. Now that Matt Ritchie is fit again, the quality of set pieces is only gonna go up a notch.
Federico Fernandez(4.4) is the best pick, he has two goals and two assists this season. Jamaal Lascelles(4.2) is another very good option as he’s always been a threat from set pieces and is also a 0.2 mil cheaper than Fernandez.
#3 The dilemma between the posts
FPL managers are filled with too many good options as far as the goalkeeper position is concerned. And Gameweek 25 only added more confusions to managers. Who should we have in goal? Should we go in with Henderson(5.0) or Pope(4.6)? Or should we think different and pick one of McCarthy, Leno or Dubravka who all have a great run of fixtures coming up?
Right, there’s a lot of things to digest here. Dean Henderson(5.0) became the first goalie to break the 100 point barrier this season in Gameweek 25. But the young Englishman doesn’t have a fixture in GW 28 and will not be available to face his parent club ManUtd in GW 31. Pope has 28 points in his last three games and has the same amount of clean sheets as Henderson(9). Dubravka and McCarthy have good fixtures coming up, but we suggest to take defenders from Newcastle as already mentioned. As for Southampton, their defense isn’t reliable.
So finally, who’s the best option? Well, we reckon Dean Henderson is still the best option, but it would be very smart idea to have Nick Pope as back up.
#4 The Liverpool conundrum
First things first, just bring in Salah and TAA if you don’t have them already. Who is the other player to have from the champions elect? Two players’ recent form have gotten managers to think different. Both Firmino(9.6) and the Ox(6.2) have excelled in recent games. Prior to Gameweek 25, Bobby Firmino had been an away specialist. However, the Brazilian got himself 3 assists against Southampton and was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty. Given the fact that other forwards like Abraham, Ings, Vardy, Aubameyang have dipped to a large extent, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring in Firmino in their stead.
#5 Japhet Tanganga is a dream for managers
It’s not often you get a defender who costs 4.0 mil from a big team. But Spurs’ Japhet Tanganga offers exactly that for managers. Jose Mourinho ‘s teams are often known to have defensive solidity. However, that wasn’t the case in his first few games incharge of the North Londoners. But now Spurs have kept 2 clean sheets in the last three games, including one in Gameweek 25 against the champions. Lloris is also back fit and Mourinho’s men do have a winnable run of fixtures coming up, so it’s definitely worth having JT in your sides.
