The joy of seeing their defender score or assist a goal is one of the best feeling for an FPL Manager, with lot of defenders providing great attacking returns last season a lot of FPL managers are moving away from the traditional 3 at the back strategy to 5 defenders in the playing 11, yes you are reading it right FIVE DEFENDERS, one of the main reasons is that defenders scored more points per million than any other position it and also the fact that defenders bring in crucial differential points. So let’s look into few of the new defenders that premier league clubs have signed who could add real value into your defense allaboutdefenders
New Defensive Signnings:
- ARON WAN BISAKKA MAN UTD 5.5 MIL
- JOAO CANCELO MAN CITY
- HARRY MAGUIRE MAN UTD 5.5 MIL
- MATT TARGETT ASTON VILLA 4.5 MIL
- RYAN SESSEGNON SPURS
- ADAM WEBSTER BRIGHTON 4.5 MIL
- TYROME MINGS VILLA 4.5 MIL
AARON WAN BISAKKA MAN UTD 5.5 MIL:
BISAKKA had an outstanding season at crystal palace and proved to be a real FPL asset scoring 120 points with a BPS of 672🔥, this time around he finds himself at Manchester United and at a premium pricing as well but what makes him stand out is that he has picked up where he left last season providing an assist and winning all the tackles so far in pre season at united. There are concerns over his attacking returns especially when you shell out a premium price, but it looks like FPL mangers have put their trust once again as he is the second most owned defender this season behind only to virgil van dijk with 36% of the FPL managers choosing him in their squads.
JOAO CANCELO MAN CITY PRICE TBC:
Cancelo is one of the best Right Backs in the world and Man City have got an absolutely great signing. cancelo is a technically gifted player and is a menace going forward, But having arrived at Man city very late it is highly unlikely he will start GW1 ahead of Walker who had a solid performance against liverpool in the community shield including a stunning goal line clearance, with no new CB arriving to replace club legend vincent kompany who left at the end of last season walker could be seen playing at CB incase of any injuries allowing cancelo to play at his natural Right Back position. But it is early days still, so it is better wait and watch on how pep set up his defense
MATT TARGETT ASTON VILLA 4.5 MIL:
The new £15m Villa signing is set to start at fullback. The Ex Southampton player is a creative fullback who averaged 1.4 crosses and 1.6 key passes per game last season. Villa are pushing to stay up with the many new additions made to their squad. with kind fixtures after the tough opening game against spurs matt targett looks like a great option at this price. With an ownership of just 1.6% Targett could well be your differential pick.
HARRY MAGUIRE MAN UTD 5.5 MIL:
Tall, strong and comfortable on the ball Man united have got themself a great center back,Maguire is an FPL asset because of his all round ability from making crucial passes, tackles and a strong threat in set piece situations, Maguire could well go on to replicate the last season form of Van dijk which made him the second most scoring defender in FPL. Having been priced at 5.5 MIL same as that of fellow new signing wan bisakka it looks like maguire will be a better option if your considering a defender from Man Utd.
ADAM WEBSTER BRIGHTON 4.5 MIL:
Brighton have signed Adam Webster from Bristol City in what is a club record, £20 million deal, signing on a four year deal. Aged 24, the highly rated centre back makes the switch from the Championship to the Premier League, joining the Seagulls.
Brighton may choose to play 5 at the back with Webster slotting in at the back with Duffy and Dunk. That said, it may be Burn who starts the Premier League due to a strong pre-season showing and being more aligned with Potter’s style of play.
Webster has been priced at £4.5m in fantasy premier league and although Brighton have a reasonable start to the Premier League, there are better options in defence at this price point, even Dunk being a more assured starter at £4.5m will be a more favourable pick for your fantasy teams.
TYRONE MINGS ASTON VILLA 4.5 MIL:
Coming into the game this week as a £4.5m defender he certainly has appeal as a 4th/5th choice, especially as many will be looking to load up on 3 top enders such as TAA, Robertson and Laporte. His experience at left back means he has an eye for a pass and after scoring 2 goals in 15 games at Villa he will have appeal from set pieces. He also registered 6 clean sheets in those games. He is a nailed on starter but at this current stage I do hold concerns over the clean sheet potential. It’s looking increasingly likely that it will be a very new look back line with Guilbert and Targett lining up as full backs and Hause replacing Tuanzebe as the main centre back partner of Mings, so it will be interesting to see how they gel.
So at this early stage I strongly suggest keeping an eye on further developments here. If moves are made in those 2 positions then Villa are looking at a very nice start fixture wise and Mings will certainly be in my thinking. Once they have visited White Hart Lane on the opening weekend their run of games is Bournemouth (H), Everton (H), Palace (A), West Ham (H), Arsenal (A), Burnley (H), Norwich (A), Brighton (H). About as appealing a run as any team can hope for at the start of a season.
RYAN SESSEGNON SPURS PRICE TBC:
Spurs have a signed a supremely talented youngster in sessegnon and in all likelihood he will replace danny rose as the first choice LB at spurs, Historically spurs full backs have enjoyed a lot of success over the last few seasons and if sessegnon can quickly establish himself in the spurs backline he could become an FPL asset over the course of the season
