What is FPL Free Hit?
FPL Free Hit Chip allows managers to make unlimited transfers for that respective Gameweek only. For the next Gameweek, your original squad is back. In short words, Free Hit Chip is a one-week bonus chip which is used to navigate blank/maximize double GW’s. It can be activated while confirming the transfers.

FPL Free Hit vs Wildcard :
There is certainly some similarities and big differences between free hit and wildcard in FPL. Free Hit is similar to Wildcard but it lasts for only one week. Your original squad comes back for the next game week in free hit, but in wildcard, it does not. Wildcard is more like a long term solution while Free Hit is a one week remedy generally used to overcome blank gameweeks.
Can I activate Free Hit after making transfers for that week?
Yes. You certainly can. Your points won’t be detected in case you take hits.
Can I change my mind after activating the chip?
NO! So carefully scroll down to find which is the best time to play the FPL Free Hit.
FPL Free Hit: Cheat codes/simple tricks:
1. Invest heavily in your playing 11:
You will have a 100M budget to select 15 players but make sure to spend the maximum in your playing eleven. This is because your substitutes count for nothing during Free Hit. So, make sure to have some of these lowest-priced players in your bench :
- Keeper: Button(3.9)
- Defenders: Heise, Stearman, Ramsay, Johnson(all 3.9)
- Midfielders: Chong, Skipp(4.3)
- Forwards: Brewster(4.2)
We won’t know most of these players, but they are ones who help us out to make the best use of the Free Hit Chip!
2. Your transfers won’t be carried over to the next week even if you have two free transfers:
The next GW after you play the Free Hit, you will have one free transfer whatsoever. So don’t play the free hit when you already have two free transfers.
3. Don’t play the Free Hit Chip out of frustration/injury crisis:
Free Hit Chip is best suited to navigate Blank Gameweeks and maximize Double Gameweeks.
The Big Question: What is the best time to play the FPL Free Hit Chip?
Do not read further if you have already used this chip! There are three possible places where you could play the Free Hit Chip.
- FPL GW 28: Manchester City, Sheffield United, Arsenal and Aston Villa blank due to the Carabao Cup final between City and Villa.
Likely players owned: Aguero, KDB, Fleck, One Sheffield defender, Aubameyang. - FPL GW 31: Best time to play the Free Hit Chip.
This is because FPL GW 31 clashes with the FA Cup Quarterfinals. - Either of the Double Game Week 34 or 37
Why you should not play the FPL Free Hit Chip in GW 28 and play it in FPL GW 31?
Only three games are confirmed to happen and you could see as many as 14 teams blanking and not having games in Gameweek 31.
Confirmed games in GW31:
- Wolves vs Bournemouth
- Burnley vs Watford
- Tottenham vs West Ham/Norwich vs Everton(Whoever wins Tottenham vs Norwich)
Likely blanks in GW31:
It is safe to say that at least five of these six games will blank during Gameweek 31 and one from Tottenham vs West Ham/ Norwich vs Everton will blank.
- Chelsea vs Manchester City (Blanks if Chelsea defeats Liverpool/City defeats Sheffield Wednesday)
- Manchester United vs Sheffield United (Blanks if United defeats Derby County/Sheffield defeats Reading)
- Leicester vs Brighton(Blanks if Leicester defeats Birmingham)
- Southampton vs Arsenal( Blanks if Arsenal defeats Portsmouth)
- Liverpool vs Crystal Palace (Blanks if Liverpool defeats Chelsea)
- Newcastle vs Aston Villa (Blanks if Villa defeats West Brom)
Planning ahead:
Going further, FA Cup semifinals are scheduled during GW34 and as many as four games can be rescheduled. But there is a free midweek just after GW34 and those fixtures can be played in the same Gameweek. City, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Sheffield surely at least one Double Gameweek due to the blank in GW 28. These games could be rescheduled to Gameweek 37(Another possible DGW).
Verdict: Don’t be in a hurry to use your Free Hit chip in GW 28(which will be a very bad move). Try to navigate the GW28 blank using free transfers. There are many better places where Free Hit could be used and Gameweek 31 is one among them.
