Welcome to the FPL Gameweek 6 Captaincy metrics blog. Man City facing Burnley makes the captaincy straightforward this week with Haaland the overwhelming favourite, the other captaincy shouts include Semenyo, Reijnders, Salah & Joao Pedro. Let’s see who comes out on top of the captaincy metrics.
This season, we have a 4/5 returns record. Last season, the metrics finished with 686 pts(26/38 returns), the metrics had a “26/38 returns record” in the 23/24 season, 31/37 “returns record” in the 22/23 season, and “30/38 returns record” in the 21/22 season. Total metrics points: 14 + 4 + 18 + 26 + 10 = 72 points
Note: “Returns” ~ player topping the metrics getting points returns and not necessarily the highest scoring option of the week.

FPL GW6 Captaincy poll ~ Wisdom Of the Crowd

It’s one-way traffic in the captaincy poll this week, with Haaland getting 3/4th of the votes. The Man City did not feature in the midweek Carabao Cup game and will be raring to go against Burnley.

The highest scoring midfielder in FPL, Semenyo is 2nd with 7% of the votes & will be facing Leeds United(A). Mo Salah, who is sold by many managers going into GW6, is 3rd and will be up against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, the Eagles have conceded only 2 goals in the opening 5 games this season. Glasner’s men are also undefeated in their last 17 matches in all competitions, stretching back to last season. The top five is completed by Joao Pedro(vs Brighton – A) & Reijnders(vs Burnley – H)

Underlying Numbers of the FPL Gameweek 6 Captain picks

Haaland tops the table without any surprise, with 23 shots in the box, 11 big chances, and an xG of 7.24 in the last six games.
Haaland has had 10 big chances in the first five games this season, which is more than 14 other Premier League teams. Even Liverpool have had only 9 big chances so far this season, one less than Haaland.
Semenyo is 2nd with an xG of 3.18 in the last six games, he’s also had 7 big chances and 15 goal attempts in the box, which is 2nd amongst the five players. He’s also created 8 chances in the last six games, the 2nd highest amongst the five players. 6 out of the 9 big chances Bournemouth have had this season have gone to Semenyo, which shows he’s the talisman of the team now.
Salah is 3rd with an xG of 1.62, he’s had only 2 big chances and has created 8 chances in the last six games.
Joao Pedro 4th with an xG of 1.53 in the last six games and has had 2 big chances & 7 goal attempts in the box over the last six games.
Reijnders is only 5th with an xG of 0.88 in the last six games. He’s top for chances created amongst the five players with 9 chances created.
Note: Reijnders data included his last game for AC Milan last season, plus the first five league games this season

Projections Rank of our FPL Gameweek 6 Captain Picks

In the fourth phase of the article, I used the Anytime Returns and Projected Points tools available at Fantasy Football Hub. With the help of the Anytime Returns Tool, I have derived the Safety Rank, which helps in determining the Safest Captaincy Option of the week, while I have used the Projected Points Tool to determine the Explosion Rank, which helps in determining the Most Explosive Option of the week.
Haaland is first with an anytime returns projection of 78% and a 8.4 points projection in FPL Gameweek 6 vs Burnley(H)
Salah is second and has an anytime returns projection of 60% and a 6.7 points projection vs Crystal Palace(A)
Semenyo is second with an anytime returns projection of 52% and a points projection of 6.6 vs Leeds United(A)
Joao Pedro takes the 4th spot having an anytime returns projection of 51% and a points projection of 5.7 against his former club Brighton.
Reijnders takes the last spot with the Man City midfielder having an anytime returns projection of 44% and a points projection of 5.6 against Burnley(H).

Conclusion – Final Rank from our FPL Gameweek 6 Captaincy metrics

In the Fifth and Final Phase of the article, I have aggregated the Ranks derived above to pull out the Cumulative Rank Factor (CRF). According to our captaincy metrics, the candidate with the lowest cumulative rank factor is the ideal captaincy option.

Haaland tops the captaincy metrics with a CRF of 4, which is the least possible CRF score. Salah & Reijnders are 2nd with a CRF of 12. Pedro is 4th with a CRF of 14 & Semenyo is last with a Cumulative Rank Factor (CRF) of 15.

Only rarely do we have a player dominate the metrics & finish with a CRF of 4. Haaland is genuinely a strong triple captain shout against a Burnley side who have conceded the most shots on goal(95), most shots in the box(60), most shots on target(25), most xGC(10.18), and 3rd most big chances(11) in the league so far. Good luck if you’re using your triple captain chip on him this week!
