FPL GW6 Team Selection- Wildcard Team Reveal

Srini’s FPL GW6 Team Selection:

Wildcard is activated with a plan to Bench Boost in GW8/GW9.

Goal Keepers:

Raya takes the gloves with Arsenal defense arguably the best in the league and have good fixture run starting from GW7 onwards. Donaruma was the other option that was considered to complete the City Triple up but Arsenal’s defense is simply much better.

Dubravka is the no-brainer second keeper as he is the starting 4.0 Keeper and also helps in GW8/GW9 Bench Boost with decent fixtures.

Defenders:

  • Senesi and Tarkowski are both DEFCON beasts and have hit the DEFCON threshold in a5/5 games so far. With a floor of 4 points almost every game- Clean Sheets, Attacking returns and Bonus Points come as added incentives. I wanted to get both of them but due to the structure of the draft, I have gone only with Senesi.
  • Andersen is the next pick. Andersen has hit DEFCON in 4/5 games averaging 11.2 DEFCON per 90 minutes. DEFCON has pretty much changed the FPL landscape in terms of defense and it puts of attacking full backs like Munoz, Porro, Truffert, etc. Over the longer run you can catch up with these DEFCON defenders like Andersen/Richards for less money and transfers used. Richards is the other 4.5 million DEFCON defender in the draft.
  • Rodon is the 4.0 Defender Enabler in this draft. Leeds have been decent and Rodon has also hit DEFCON in 2/5 games. I like Sunderland defense more(Mukiele/Alderete), Sunderland have the 6th least xGC in the league as it stands. Mukiele has hit DEFCON in the last 3/3 games- 14, 12 and 16 Defensive Contributions. However since Ballard is back from injury, Mukiele might move back to RB which will reduce his DEFCON potential. So I have gone for Alderete who has also hit DEFCON in last 3 games(13, 10, 11 Defensive contributions). He should play at center back even with Ballard back.

Midfielders:

  • Semenyo picks himself as he is the excellent form with 5 returns from 5 games- 3 goals and 2 assists. Even though be blanked last week vs Newcastle he got away with a 5 pointer due to clean sheet and DEFCON(14 defensive contributions). The next 4 fixtures are good as well- LEE(A), FUL(H), CRY(A), NFO(H).
  • Reijnders is another no-brainer on your GW6 Wildcard Team. He has a good entry point in GW6 vs BUR(H) and has played 90 minutes in all 5 games so far getting 1 goal, 2 assists. 90 minute Budget Midfielder with good fixtures who plays for Manchester City and is attacking is too good to ignore on Wildcard.
  • Saka is the Differential Pick here who is just returning back from injury. He played 45 minutes vs Manchester City and 63 minutes vs Port Vale in the midweek game. Even though, he might not be penalties Saka is a Premium Midfielder who can be relied upon. Saka is only 4.0% owned which make him a strong Differential for the fixtures from GW7. Madueke’s injury means that Saka’s expected minutes have gone up again even though he is returning from injury.
  • Mbeumo is another aggressive pick compared to the safer Bruno Fernandes pick on Wildcard. Bruno Fernandes might possibly be the better pick with penalties and DEFCON potential. But for 1.0 million less, Mbeumo is also a good pick for his price point. In fact, Mbeumo is Top among Midfielders for Shots(15), Shots on Target(6) and Non-Penalty xGI(3.2) in the entire league.

  • Foden rounds up midfield as yet another Differential pick with the fixtures against BUR(H), BRE(A) and EVE(H) in the next 3 games.

Forwards:

  • Haaland and Pedro are two forwards who are locked in my team and doesn’t require much justification.
  • Richarlison is the final pick among Forwards with 3 goals, 1 assist from 5 games so far. The next 2 fixtures are against WOL(H) and LEE(A) which are too good to ignore even if it’s a 2 weeks punt. Solanke and Kolo Muani are still not back according to Frank so that should improve his minutes for the shorter run atleast.

Thoughts about the Draft:

  • The major con is that there are no Liverpool attackers in this draft. Salah despite his underlying numbers is a great option on FPL GW6 Wildcard but I am willing to take them on atleast for the next 2 weeks against CRY(A) and CHE(A) and open to going for Salah/Isak from GW8/GW9 onwards. At the moment, Goals are getting spread and Isak’s is not fit to play close to 90 minutes so I would avoid.
  • Another con is the Team structure(not very flexible and risky) and Benching Dilemma every week for the 8th attacker slot.
  • At the moment I am planning to bench Saka this week as his minutes will be less(just returning from injury) and Newcastle’s defense is also good. Next week I am planning to bench Pedro vs Liverpool. These moves might backfire big time but the upside is there.
  • Even though it is weak at the back, the defense is capable of getting DEFCON points every week. And Palace(Richards), Bournemouth(Senesi) and Andersen(Fulham) are all good defenses who you can back outside the Top 6 teams. So there are routes to points other than just clean sheets.

Alternate options that I am considering:

  • Downgrade one of Midfielders- Foden/Mbeumo/Saka to Ndiaye/Kudus and Upgrade the 4th defender to Gabriel and Double up in Arsenal defense. This would be the most sensible thing to do getting back a good structure and going for reliable options. But at the moment, it feels too good to not drop any of these attackers who I am willing to punt and back for the next few weeks atleast.
  • Richarlison to Foster(5.0) which can get me Richards/Andersen to Gabriel. Second Arsenal defense is what really tempting me at the moment. This helps me play 3-5-2 and use Foster on GW8 Bench Boost vs WOL(A).

Forward Planning:

  • If this attack heavy team backfires, I will correcting my mistake dropping in one of the Premium Midfielders to Caicedo in GW8 and improve my defense.
  • Palmer is ruled out of 3 weeks as it stands and Chelsea have a great run of fixtures from GW9. Two out of Saka/Foden/Mbeumo to Palmer + Cheap Mid is also an option.
  • One of the Premium Midfielders can make way for Caicedo in GW8/GW9 which can help to upgrade the Richarlison position to Isak/Gyokeres as well if needed.

Another good thing about this Wildcard Draft is that I have kept the option of using Bench Boost in GW8/GW9 open. Burnley have good fixtures in both GW8 vs LEE(H) and GW9 vs WOL(A). Leeds also have good fixtures in both GW8 vs BUR(A) and GW9 vs WHU(H). This helps you to play the Budget assets like Dubravka, Rodon either in GW8/GW9 based on the injuries and other team news.

Surya’s FPL GW6 Team Selection:

Wildcard is activated with a plan to Bench Boost in GW8.

Goal Keeper:

Raya takes the gloves with Arsenal defense arguably the best in the league and have good fixture run starting from GW7 onwards. Dubravka is the second GK in this draft. Doubling upon Arsenal defense is also done in this draft with their excellent defensive numbers carried forward from last season.

Arsenal Defense Rank this season:

  • xGC- 2nd
  • Goals Conceded- 1st
  • Big Chances Conceded- 1st
  • Shots inside the box conceded- 3rd

Defenders:

  • The defense is dominated by DEFCON template guys- Senesi, Richards and Andersen. Senesi is Top for DEFCON among Defenders with 65 Defensive Contributions from 5 games averaging 13 DEFCON per game while Andersen is 4th averaging more than 11 DEFCONs per game. Richards is 6th as well with 51 Defensive Contributions so far.

  • Gudmundsson is the final defender in this team coming in as the Budget enabler. Leeds have kept 2 clean sheets this season and Gudmundsson has both 3 Bonus in both these games. He also hit the DEFCON threshold in GW5 and plays as a LB so he has multiple routes to points.

Midfielders:

  • Semenyo and Reijnders are arguably the Best Picks at their price points and are value for money picks. They also have good fixtures coming up which means that picking them were one of the easiest decisions made.
  • Bruno Fernandes is the next pick as he has good underlying numbers, set pieces share, penalties and DEFCON potential. There are very few picks who ticks all these boxes but Bruno Fernandes is one.
FPL GW6 Wildcard Players to Target - Bruno

Bruno Fernandes Stats(Rank Among Midfielders this season):

  • Shots- 12 (3rd)
  • Expected Goal Involvement- 3.6 (1st)
  • Chances Created- 15 (1st)
  • Defensive Contributions- 52 (9th)

  • Phil Foden is the Differential Pick in this Draft coming in at just 3.6% ownership. He is fully back from injury, got a goal and hit DEFCON against Manchester United in GW4 to manage a 12 point haul. He did blank against Arsenal in GW5 but got a goal and assist in the 2-0 win vs Huddersfield in the EFL cup game. He is a slightly risky pick(as he has just returned from injury), but worth a punt for the next 3 games atleast and can be moved on to Saka/Palmer around GW9 if it doesn’t work out.
FPL GW6 Wildcard Players to Target - Foden
  • Stach is the Midfield Budget Enabler in this draft with multiple routes to FPL points with DEFCON, Corners and Set Pieces. Dewsbury Hall was also in contention but he is on 4 yellow cards(1 yellow away from suspension) and also plays MCI(A) in GW8 where I might need to Bench Boost.

Forwards:

  • I have gone with the Template Forward line of Haaland, Pedro and Gyokeres. Haaland(6 Goals) and Pedro(2 Goals, 3 Assists) are easily the 2 stand out Forward picks in the game with good fixtures and Top 2 for FPL Points as it stands.
Most FPL Points among Forwards
  • Gyokeres has 2 Blanks in last 3 games, but I am not too worried as the blanks came in against Manchester City and Liverpool. Likely on penalties and Playing for Arsenal as the only fit Forward for this fixture run, He should get back to his goal scoring form.
Arsenal fixtures from GW6-GW11

Key Notes about the Draft:

  • I have gone for Saliba over Gabriel only due to the lack of funds.
  • Plan is to keep on rolling transfers for atleast 2-3 weeks and make the big calls about the Premiums- Saka/Palmer/Salah from GW9 onwards. Bruno Fernandes has a good exit point in GW8 as they play Liverpool while Foden can also be removed if needed.

Alternate options:

Alternate options that I am considering:

  • Bruno Fernandes to Mbeumo that helps me to get Tarkowski over Richards.

The major con of planning a GW8 Bench Boost is that it comes right away from the International break where there might be injuries/fatigue coming in. So if I am not able to Bench Boost in GW8, I am ready to keep the option open to do so in any of the random weeks where the bench is strong.

Projection for GW8 Bench Boost:

This is the GW8 Bench Boost projection for this team without doing any transfers.
