Welcome to our FPL GW13 Scout Picks blog. GW12 turned out to be a good week for our scout team returning with a huge 83 points, thanks to the Salah captaincy call plus returns from all three forwards(Jackson, Watkins & Joao Pedro) which helped us in beating the official FPL scout by 4 points and extending our lead to 8-4 in our favour!

FPL GW13 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper
Flekken registered his first clean sheet of the season in GW12 vs Everton & returned 9 points. He has made 60 saves so far this season, highest amongst all keepers with the next best being Hermansen with 47 saves. His BPS score of 193 is also the 2nd highest amongst GKs & with a home game against Leicester he’s no brainer option. The foxes are 18th for xG(12.7) & 19th for big chances(22) amongst all teams so far this season.

FPL GW13 Scout Picks – Defenders
Gabriel spearheads the defense once again in the GW13 Scout Selection team despite being yellow flagged. He did come off in the UCL game midweek but it appears only to be a precaution. Arsenal have 42% chances of a clean sheet– Highest among all the teams for GW13(Credits- Rob T). Not just for this week, Arsenal have a good run of fixtures going forward and it is safe to own atleast one Arsenal defender for the run in if not the double up.
Matchup alert:
West Ham are 4th for most headed shots conceded in the league so far(33) & no defender has had more header attempts(10) & headed goals(2) than Gabriel.
Lewis Hall is the next pick among Defenders in the GW13 Scout Selection. Hall has started every game since GW4 and in this he has created 13 chances(4th highest among DEFs) and 1.54 xA(4th Highest among Defenders). Hall is also on corners- He has taken 22 corners during this run with only Leif Davis(37) taking more corners among Defenders.
Newcastle Defense Rank since GW6:
- xGC- 2nd
- Big Chances Conceded- 4th
- Goals Conceded- 2nd
They have these excellent underlying numbers despite playing MCI ARS che during this run.
Matchup alert: In the last six matches Palace have conceded 29 chances through their right flank(left zone) which is the 3rd most in the league giving Hall a good attacking matchup.
Newcastle have a decent run of fixtures coming up and with them not involved in Europe, there will no fatigue and this may well be the time their good underlying data turn into FPL points.
Estupinan is the 3rd defender in the scout picks this week, the Southampton home game is hard to look past and the Brighton fullback could offer defensive & attacking returns. Southampton have scored the least goals(9) in the PL so far and have conceded the highest xGC(25.6).

FPL GW13 Scout Picks – Midfielders
Mo Salah needs little justification, he’s playing at Anfield against Man City who have are winless for six games(Lost five, Drawn One). The defending PL champions have also kept only 2 clean sheets in the PL this season. Salah has eight double digit hauls & has only blanked twice in 12 PL games so far.
Mbeumo has been silent for the last few games but he shouldn’t be overlooked for GW13 against Leicester(H) who have conceded the most chances(64) amongst all teams(GW1-12) through their left flank which is where Mbeumo operates giving him a great matchup. The fixtures for the Bees are tricky from GW14 onwards and Mbeumo could offer a huge haul for owners as a parting gift.
Arsenal assets are back on the radar of FPL manager & Saka as usual is the number one pick amongst all of them. The Gunner attacker scored a goal & picked up an assist in GW12 vs Nottingham Forest & will be up against West Ham in GW13. He’s also enjoying the return of Odegaard from his injury.
Bukayo Saka on Martin Odegaard: “He’s an unbelievable player. Today he returned, there was a big smile on my face. You can see the chemistry we have., how much I enjoy playing with him. I’m happy he’s back and hope he stays fit for rest of the season.”
In the five league games Saka & Odegaard have played together Saka has blanked only once(2 goals, 3 assists) & has registered 2 double digit hauls.
Palmer takes up the Captaincy in our GW12 Scout Picks team up against Aston Villa(H). He has blanked in the last 3 matches, but the truth to be told he has been unlucky not to return in those 3 games with good underlying data- 9 Shots, 1.9 xGI. The most notable moment was Madueke blocking Palmer’s shot at an empty goal from 3 yards out. In a week where Manchester City and Liverpool play each other, Palmer could be a good Captain pick!

FPL GW13 Scout Picks – Forwards
Joao Pedro is back in the mix and in some style. Since his return from injury in GW11 he has played only 89 minutes but has got 2 goals, 2 assists from 2 games.
His overall season numbers are also excellent with 3.0 xGI, 8 Big chance involvements, 6 Goal Involvements from 6 appearances(4 starts). In fact, Pedro is the Best player in the league for Goal Involvements/90 minutes considering a minimum of 350 minutes- Ahead of the likes of Salah, Haaland, Saka, Palmer, etc.
Added Bonus is that Pedro is also on penalties. Pedro will be up against a Southampton side who have conceded 24 goals and 25.56 xGC, 44 Big Chances conceded from 12 games- Ranking 2nd worst in the league for all these metrics.
Cunha has been in sensational form in recent weeks with 4 goals, 3 assists and 43 points from the last 4 games averaging 10.75 FPL Points per game. He has returned in all of the last 4 games with the 16 point monster haul vs Fulham the latest. He creates goals, scores goals, gets bonus points(2nd highest for bonus points) in the league and on penalties as well- A perfect FPL Talisman. Wolves have scored 20 goals this season and Cunha has been involved in 10 of them- 7 goals and 3 assists.
Cunha has returned in the last 4 games playing Brighton, Palace, Southampton and Fulham. The best part is that he has better fixtures in the next 5 games which increases his upside potential even more.
Alexander Isak rounds up the FPL GW13 Scout Picks team. He did blank last week vs West Ham but has good numbers since his return from injury- 3 goals, 1 assist from 5 games. During this run- Only Haaland and Salah have better xG and Big Chances than Isak in the entire league. We can see lots of people selling Isak but we don’t see a good reason to sell yet.
Isak will be up against Palace side who has ranked in Bottom 3 for xGC and Bottom 5 for Big Chances conceded over the last 5 matches. Not just for GW13, Isak is a good pick for the upcoming fixture run and has good fixtures for the next 5 GWs with the Liverpool game being the only difficult game.
Isak’s next 5 opponents with xGC Rank and Goals Conceded Rank this season:
xGC Rank | Goals Conceded Rank | |
GW13 vs Palace(A) | 13th | 13th |
GW14 vs Liverpool(H) | 1st | 1st |
GW15 vs Brentford(A) | 16th | 16th |
GW16 vs Leicester(H) | 18th | 18th |
GW17 vs Ipswich(A) | 20th | 18th |
