Welcome to our FPL GW7 Scout Selection blog! Despite a sub-par week, 42 points compared to the global average 50 points, we still managed to eke out another victory over the Official FPL Scout Picks team in GW6 by the narrow margin of just 3 points, with Ollie Watkins saving us from the brink of a major FPL crisis! Our team was very similar to the GW6 WC template, so if you also had a not-great week last week, don’t worry, remember that WCs are built for the medium-long term, not just for GW6!
We are now winning 4-2 against the Official FPL Scout, let’s extend the gap getting some big points in FPL GW7!

FPL GW7 Scout Picks
FPL GW7 Scout Selection – Goalkeeper
Brentford’s Flekken (4.5m) makes the team this week, for the second time this season, as the Bees face Wolves at Home in FPL GW7. Frankly (pun intended) I’m not quite sure how this is only Flekken’s second appearance in the Scout Picks team this season; he’s been an FPL fan favourite since GW1, and was one of the most selected goalkeeper by Wildcarders in GW6. Nonetheless, he makes the team this week, despite being one of a number of goalkeepers in the PL who are still yet to keep a clean sheet – so why have we picked him?
If we look at the underlying numbers, Brentford are comfortably mid-table when it comes to xGA and NPxGA, despite the fact that they’ve played Spurs, City and Liverpool over the course of their first 6 games of the new season. Taking into account the context (who they’ve played so far) is crucial when looking at such a small sample size of games, so for their xGA to be similar to Crystal Palace and Newcastle, when they’ve had such tough fixtures in comparison, is a good sign. Furthermore, Flekken has only made less than 5 saves in 1 gameweek (GW6), meaning that he is also a good source of save and bonus points.
However, the main reason we’ve picked Flekken this week is because his opponents in GW7 (Wolves) have the 3rd lowest xG, and the joint 5th lowest Goals Scored in the league this season. Admittedly Gary O’Neil’s side have been unlucky, and expected points models have them over 4 points better off than where they currently are, regardless they are a team to target, particularly if they are playing away from home as they are in GW7: in their 3 away games in 24/25, they’ve scored just 2 goals and produced 1.72xG. Flekken was the choice of many wildcarders in GW6, and he’s our choice in GW7!

FPL GW7 Scout Selection – Defenders
A very premium looking defense is protecting Flekken for GW7, with Trent (7.1m), Gabriel (6.1m) and Lewis (4.7m) completing our back 3. We recouped a total of 3 points from our 3 defender picks in FPL GW6, so we’re hoping for some better luck with our GW7 selections!
Gabriel is the highest scoring defender in the league so far this season, having scored 37 points, or an average of 6.2 points per game. Arsenal have conceded the joint second fewest goals in the Prem, but, (like many teams this season) they are over-performing their xGA thanks to some superb stops from their goalkeeper Raya. It goes without saying at this point that Gabriel is also a goal threat from set-pieces, something that the Gunners will look to target against the Saints, a team who have already conceded 5 goals from set-piece situations.
Arsenal were unlucky to concede two goals against Leicester in GW6, as the Foxes created just 0.34 xG, so with another low scoring team coming to visit the Emirates this week in Southampton, Gabriel and Saliba will fancy their chances at a CS in FPL GW7.
Trent is one of the best and most creative Right-Backs in the world, and is proving it again this season. He is Liverpool’s most creative player, averaging 0.48xA/90 and 2.5 Key passes per 90, as well as being directly and heavily involved in build up.
TAA Stats this season(Rank among Defenders):
- Shots- 6
- xA- 2.1(1st)
- Chances created- 14(1st)
- Big Chances created- 4(1st)
Liverpool play Palace Away in GW7, which is by no means an easy fixture, but is one that you would expect them to win. Glasner’s side have underwhelmed so far this season, and are far below many FPL managers expectations from the start of the campaign, with some touting them as potential European contenders, they can still do damage, especially at home, but the Eagles have scored just 5 goals in the league, so another clean sheet is very much on the cards for Trent!
The final defender in our FPL GW7 Scout Selection team is Manchester City’s Rico Lewis, who is still priced at just 4.7m – what a bargain! Lewis has been playing as a central midfielder in recent weeks in the absence of Rodri, and has excelled in a more advanced position for the Sky Blues. He returned to right-back in mid-week in the Champions League and put in an outstanding performance (which probably means Pep will bench him in GW7!).
Lewis is averaging just over 0.2xG in the league so far this season, which is exceptional for a defender, and at just 4.7m, playing for arguably the best team in the league at home against a mid-table side in GW7, he should be on everyone’s radar! We’re backing him to start again, either at RB or in midfield, against Fulham this week, and to continue this excellent start to the campaign.

FPL GW7 Scout Selection – Midfielders
We make just 1 change for our FPL GW7 Scout Selection team, with Luis Diaz (never back the early kick-off) making way for Morgan Rogers (5.2m), who has an enticing fixture against a struggling Manchester United side this GW. The other players who make up the midfield are Semenyo (5.6m), Mbuemo (7.3m), and Saka (10.0m), who all retain their place from last week’s scout team!
Semenyo owners had to wait until Monday night to find out if their investment was worth it, but it was worth the wait, with the Ghanaian scoring once in Bournemouth’s 3-1 win against Southampton. Semenyo is only behind Evanilson in the Bournemouth squad for xG/90, and is the highest in the Cherries’ team for xGI (0.83/90), he should be either in your team or on your radar!
Bournemouth play Leicester in GW7, who have the highest xGA in the league, and the joint third highest goals against – they are definitely a team to target! Semenyo is priced at just 5.7m, and is a great enabler, especially if you’re trying to fit 3+ premiums in your team. Speaking of budget enablers…
The player I once dubbed ‘The Quasi-Essential Budget Enabler‘, Morgan Rogers, makes his return to the Scout Selection team this week, after his side put in a huge performance in the Champions League on Wednesday, winning 1-0 against Bayern Munich.
Villa currently sit 5th in the PL, having scored 12 goals and conceded 9, and play United in FPL GW7, a team who were poor against Spurs and have been struggling to get going all season. Rogers on the other hand has had a superb start to the season, averaging 0.6xGI/90, scoring once, and providing 2 assists. With the consistent game time he’s been given under Emery this year he has been a revelation for the Villains, and will be looking to continue his great form and take his side even higher in the table when United visit Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.
Mbeumo provided owners with an exceptional 9 point return against West Ham in FPL GW6, scoring his 5th goal of the campaign and taking home 2 bonus points. Yes, okay, he is over performing his xG big time, so you would expect him to slow down and stop scoring at such an exceptional rate at some point, but while he’s in form, he’s a must have.
Brentford face Wolves this week, a tasty fixture for Mbeumo owners, as Wolves have conceded the most goals in the league so far this campaign. The Cameroonian has been playing as a striker in Wissa and Thiago’s absence, and has thrived; he’s a great pick for FPL GW7 and beyond.
The final player in our midfield quartet is Arsenal’s Saka. England’s starboy is averaging 1.19xGI in the league this season, and has managed an FPL return in all but 1 gameweek (after his assist points in GW6 against Leicester were removed by FPL). He is the best Arsenal option, and the Gunners are one of the most important teams to target over the next few weeks, playing Southampton in GW7 and Bournemouth in GW8.
Saka has the highest expected goal involvement per 90, highest xA/90 and takes the most shots of any player in the Arsenal squad, he is their most dangerous attacker and most important player – he is essential for this run of games, and pretty essential for GW7. He could even be considered as a captaincy option…

FPL GW7 Scout Selection – Attackers
Rounding out this team is our attacking trio of Haaland (15.1m), Havertz (8.2m), and Watkins (9.0m), a very premium, and very dangerous front-line!
HAALAND BLANKED, repeat, HAALAND BLANKED. The robot malfunctioned in FPL GW6 and failed to score for the first time this campaign. Nonetheless he’s still the safest and best (sorry Saka) captaincy option for FPL GW7. Haaland is probably the only FPL player who needs no justification nor explanation, he’s in our team and he’s the captain!
Watkins retains his place from FPL GW6 after saving us from crisis talks by scoring 11 points. He faces United at Home in FPL GW7, a team who managed to concede almost 6xGA last gameweek. United were struggling even prior to Bruno’s controversial red card, and Spurs were able to capitalize, producing an excellent attacking display, and perhaps providing a template for other teams to follow.
The English striker is the third highest scoring attacker in FPL this season, and is producing some insane underlying numbers, so must be in consideration for all managers, especially considering his fixtures in the short term. He is of course very expensive, but for us, he’s worth every penny!
Completing the team we have our third and final Arsenal player, Kai Havertz. The German is currently averaging 0.76xG/90, the highest in the Arsenal squad, and is Arsenal’s most nailed attacker behind Saka. He has a great home record this season, having scored in every game at the Emirates, and is a great option for managers looking to double up on the Gunner’s attack in FPL GW7 due to their very enticing fixture in FPL GW7.
Full FPL GW7 Scout Team
Please note that our bench includes a 4.0m ‘keeper, a 2 x 4.0m defender, and a 4.5m midfielder, as all of the players selected are expected to start and have significant game-time in FPL GW7. The team value is 100m.
