Team Preview: Liverpool

Liverpool ‘s 100% record in the league ended prematurely last weekend at Old Trafford, but they got back to winning ways midweek in the Champions League. The Reds beat Genk 4-1, with ‘The Ox’ looking every bit like the player he was before he suffered that horrible injury.

Jurgen Klopp however would want his team to put in a better performance in the league than they did in Manchester, because in all fairness they just didn’t turn up and were fortunate to come away with a point. On Sunday, they take on a Spurs side who haven’t won at Anfield since 2011. Add to that, Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 44 games at home in the league. Staggering! Who would bet against another routine home win for the Reds?

Team News

Joel Matip is a major doubt for this game and could well miss, however Klopp suggested that both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson should be fine to start. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain impressed in Midweek, which provides a bit of a headache for Jurgen.

Team Preview: Spurs

Everything has fallen apart at Tottenham, and that is an understatement if ever there was one. Ever since Pochettino suggested the fact that he could walk away from Spurs if he wins the Champions League, things have fallen off a cliff. That has been one interpretation of Spurs’ shortcomings this season. Another suggestion is the fact that key players are running down their contracts. While this all is a part of the problems they’ve, it isn’t the entire story.

Defensive Worries:

The Spurs’ defense is an ageing defense, Vertonghen and Alderweireld are not getting any younger and they showed extreme levels of vulnerabilities against Bayern Munich who themselves have been pretty average by their Standards. The duo were then run ragged by young Conolly at Brighton and ran into Deulofeu last week, but for VAR, things could have gone differently against Watford. Club captain Hugo Lloris is now injured, but didn’t cover himself with glory prior to that as he made numerous blatant errors leading to goals in the last few months. In fact since 2016, only Bernd Leno(11) has made more errors than Lloris’ 10. Anyways he’s injured and it could be a blessing in disguise.

And then the most bizarre of all stories surrounding Spurs, selling arguably Enlgand’s best Right back as he wasn’t good enough defensively and not replacing him. Now they’re having to deal with a certain Serge Aurier who himself probably doesn’t know what version of him is gonna turn up. To sum that point up, Trippier has gone to Atletico Madrid, arguably the best team in Europe as far as defending is concerned and is doing well for himself.

So, to all those who are thinking that it is only a matter of time before Spurs get out of this mess, kindly rekindle your thoughts. Yes, they beat Red Star by 5-0 that only has papered over the cracks a wee bit. On Sunday, they take on a Liverpool side who would be hungry to get back to winning ways. It is a massive litmus test for the Lilywhites away at Anfield on Sunday, especially when they haven’t won away from home for 10 games.

At least there are some positive news for Spurs with regards to players coming back to fitness, Lo Celso and Foyth are fully fit again. Ryan Sessegnon is also not far of which means that Poch has the entire squad to pick from, except maybe Christian Eriksen, goodness knows whats happening with him.
