FPL gameweek 1 finished with an average of 69 points as many managers entered the 100 club after the haul of Bruno, Salah, Pogba, Antonio, and Benrahma. In this article, we shall discuss the best fixtures to target ahead of FPL Gameweek 2 with the best options for captaincy for each fixture.
FPL Gameweek 2 ~ Fixtures to target for FPL Points
🔴 Liverpool vs Burnley
Liverpool impressed with a 3-0 thrashing of Norwich City in the first game of the 2021-22 Premier League campaign where Mo Salah (£12.5) is scoring, Virgil Van Dijk (£6.5) is back defending while Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5) and Kostas Tsimikas (£4.0) are balling out at the flanks
The Reds had 13 chances created against Norwich out of which 46% where from the right flank of TAA and Salah. On the other side, Burnley had the 5th worse xGC this week (1.73) with 3 big chances conceded, 6 chances from their left ( Liverpool’s right side ) as well as 12 goal attempts inside their penalty area against Brighton.
Burnley are expected to play a low block game versus Liverpool which can be resolved in two ways: Either implement the 4-2-3-1 Where Salah(£12.0) and Mane (£12.0) on the flanks and Firmino (£9.0) behind Diogo Jota (£7.5) or of its 4-3-3 then Liverpool have to stretch on the pitch to give Arnold and Tsimikas the advantage of exploiting the flanks
A crowded Anfield will be a major factor and I can see a win with Cleansheet for the Reds however these types of games are the one’s Mane and Jota like. This definitely doesn’t exclude Salah from being a strong captaincy contender this week.
🔴 Southampton vs Manchester United
Man UTD were playing 4-2-3-1 in attack while 4-4-2 when losing the ball.
With Paul Pogba (£7.6) and Daniel James (£6.0) on the wings, Bruno Fernandes (£12.1) was playing the number 9 roles behind Mason Greenwood (£7.5), however, we saw Fernandes was playing as SS with Mason that made Bruno scoring 3 out of his 4 penalty box touches.
The Red zone vs The Balck Zone indicates why Bruno had the shininess vs Leeds. He was nearer from Greenwood to the clinical areas.
Southampton conceded 3 big chances and with 2nd worst xGC (2.09) this game week. With 6 chances conceded from their left flank, I can see that Greenwood shifting sometimes to this area could help him a lot to find the net or creating the space for Bruno who comes from behind and accordingly I see both should have positive returns against the saints.
The Saints had the 2nd least goal attempts from open play this week which could appeal to man united to secure the clean sheet at the Saint Mary’s stadium.
👕 Manchester City vs Norwich City
The defeat against Tottenham in the Opening fixture should rumble Pep Guardiola and his men when they face Norwich city whom were ravaged with 3-0 against Liverpool
Norwich conceded 3 big chances in their opening fixtures against the reds where the vulnerability appears in their left flank which conceded 6 chances and 4 from their center zone.
Ilkay Gundogan (£7.5) sustained a shoulder injury and could potentially miss the game however, Kevin De Bruyne (£12.0) is expected to be fully fit to start against the Canaries which could definitely benefit Mahrez (£9.0) from dropping too many to create the spaces for himself
Norwich conceded the highest goal attempts inside the box (13) with xGC (1.48) while on the other side Man city had the 3rd best xG (1.91) despite their loss. If KDB and Mahrez exploit the red zone below then we should see a binge from both players.
