Top FPL Gameweek 36 Captain Picks Based on Analysis & Metrics

Welcome to the FPL Gameweek 36 Captain Picks & Metrics blog. We head into the deadline after the news that we’ll not have any more double gameweeks this season. There are still four gameweeks left to gain ranks, and captaincy plays a key role. The popular captaincy options this week include Mbeumo, Salah, Marmoush, Bowen, and Isak. Let’s see who tops the captaincy metrics!

This season the metrics has a 24/34 return record. Last season the metrics finished with 560 points(26/38 returns). The metrics had a 31/37 “returns record” in the 22/23 season and a 30/38 “returns record” in the 21/22 season. Do follow the man behind the metrics @AK_FPL1(Do follow him on Twitter)

FPL GW36 Captaincy Metrics

FPL GW36 Captaincy poll ~ Wisdom Of the Crowd

Mbeumo tops the captaincy poll this week with 32% of the votes ahead of facing relegated Ipswich(A). Kevin De Bruyne is second in the captaincy poll with 22% of the votes and will face another relegated team, Southampton(A). Wood is 3rd in the captaincy poll this week with 10% of the votes and will be against Championship-bound Leicester City, Forest & Wood will look to bounce back strongly after a string of disappointing results. Marmoush is fourth with 10% of the votes and will be up against Southampton. The top five in the captaincy poll is completed by the man in red-hot form, Yoane Wissa, with 9% of the votes.

After a very long time, there is no Mo Salah in the top five of the captaincy poll.

Underlying Numbers of the FPL Gameweek 36 Captain picks

There’s no Egyptian King in the captaincy poll this week, but we have the Egyptian prince, Marmoush, top the table with an xG of 3.66 in the last six games, including 5 big chances, which is the highest amongst the five players. He’s also had 17 goal attempts in the box the joint highest amongst the five players.

Wissa is 2nd in the table with an xG of 2.93 in the last six games and is top amongst the five players for big chances(7). He’s also had a healthy 17 shots inside the box in the last six games(Joint highest).

Mbeumo is 3rd with an xG of 1.86, 14 chances created(highest amongst the five players), and 11 goal attempts in the box during the last six games.

Man City legend, KDB is only fourth with an xG of 1.19 and has had four big chances. He’s created 10 chances for his teammates, the 2nd highest amongst the five players.

Wood is last with an xG of 1.07 over the last six games and has had only one big chance in the last six games.

Underlying Numbers of the Candidate’s Teams

Man City take the first spot with an xG of 10.63 in the last six games and have had 54 shots inside the box and 22 big chances during the period.

Brentford are 3rd with 9.29 xG over the last six games, they have also had 55 goal attempts in the box and 21 big chances.

Nottingham Forest are 5th with only an xG of 4.58 and just one big chance in the last six games, I had to recheck the number, and it’s actually correct!

Fixture Difficulty of the candidate team in FPL GW36

In the Third Phase of the Article, we look at the Fixture Difficulty of our 5 Candidates. 

We will use DraftHound’s odds for a Team scoring at least one goal in the Gameweek and the Odds of Scoring more than 2.0 goals in the Gameweek as a whole.

Man City are first with a 92% odds of at least 1 goal and 60% odds of scoring 2+ goals in FPL GW36 vs Southampton(A)

Nottingham Forest are 2nd with a 87% odds of scoring at least one goal and 42% odds of scoring odds of scoring 2+ goals in FPL GW36 vs Leicester City(H).

Brentford have a 86% odds of scoring at least one goal and 38% odds of scoring odds of scoring 2+ goals in FPL GW36 vs Ipswich(A).

Projections Rank of our FPL Gameweek 36 Captain Picks

In the fourth phase of the article, I used the Anytime Returns and Projected Points tools available at Fantasy Football Hub. With the help of the Anytime Returns Tool, I have derived the Safety Rank, which helps in determining the Safest Captaincy Option of the week, while I have used the Projected Points Tool to determine the Explosion Rank, which helps in determining the Most Explosive Option of the week. 

Kevin De Bruyne is first for projections this week with 59% anytime returns & a 6.1 points projection in FPL GW36.

Marmoush is second this week with 55% anytime returns & a 5.5 points projection in FPL GW36.

Wissa, meanwhile, is 3rd and has a 50% anytime returns & a 5.5 points projection in GW36 against Ipswich.

Mbeumo and Wood are joint 4th with Mbeumo having 49% anytime returns and a points prediction of 5.3. Wood meanwhile has a 48% anytime returns and a points prediction of 5.4.

Conclusion – Final Rank from our FPL Gameweek 36 Captaincy metrics

In the Fifth and Final Phase of the article, I have aggregated the Ranks derived above to pull out the Cumulative Rank Factor (CRF). According to our captaincy metrics, the candidate with the lowest cumulative rank factor is the ideal captaincy option. 

Marmoush tops the captaincy metrics with a CRF of 5, and Kevin De Bruyne is 2nd with a CRF of 7. Wissa is third with a CRF of 11 and finishes ahead of teammate Mbeumo, who is 4th with a CRF of 14. Wood is last with a CRF of 17.
