FPL GW30 Tips – Key Questions/Dilemmas Answered
1. Best FPL Defenders to Consider

The International Break gave us time to pause and catch our breath before the run home to the end of the season. It also allowed us to gain a better understanding of the upcoming blank and double gameweeks due to FA Cup quarter-final fixtures being played.
It is important to understand the injury situation of some key defensive FPL picks. Trent Alexander-Arnold sustained an ankle injury which is serious enough that the manager is expecting him back “towards the end of the season” suggesting he could miss multiple weeks.
Lewis Hall, who was previously a popular pick, is out for the season.

Gvardiol faces Leicester at home this week which is the best defensive fixture on the calendar with an upcoming double gameweek, likely in Gameweek 33 against Everton & Aston Villa. Although Gvardiol has not been as offensive and City has struggled defensively for the majority of the season, he could be a great option over the next month of fixtures.

Munoz has been a great pick in recent weeks, returning in 7 of his last 8 fixtures, while Crystal Palace post some of the best defensive numbers in the league on recent form. His upcoming run includes Southampton, a double gameweek in Gameweek 32 against Manchester City & Newcastle before a likely Gameweek 33 double gameweek.

A Newcastle defender such as Dan Burn could be a good choice while also being budget-friendly at £4.4m. Newcastle have a confirmed double gameweek in gameweek 32 with two home fixtures against Manchester United & Crystal Palace. Upcoming fixtures against Brentford & Leicester also open up avenues to points.
Note: Burn is on 8 yellow cards, 2 away from suspension with the count resetting only at the end of DGW32 for Newcastle. If you feel it’s risky to get him with the suspension threat you can go for Livramento who costs 4.5 Million and is also nailed for the remainder of the season.

2. Best FPL Midfielders to Target from Gameweek 30
Salah’s run home will not include any double or blank gameweeks and has a few tough fixtures. There has been talk over the break of potentially dropping Salah but with the form issues Palmer is facing and the recent injury to Haaland, your best bet is to hold onto Salah as a key captaincy option.
Palmer has struggled for form in recent weeks before missing Gameweek 29 with an injury. For those that have dropped him, he is definitely not a must-buy. For those who still have him, there are likely better uses for your transfers this week.
Palmer is back in training and looking likely to feature mid-week as Chelsea host Tottenham at Stamford Bridge. Nicolas Jackson is also likely to return who Palmer appears to perform much better with when he’s on the pitch. The next three fixtures of Tottenham (H), Brentford (A), & Ipswich (H) are a good set of fixtures to give Palmer another chance.

Eze is a name that should be on your watchlist. His upcoming fixture run of Southampton (A), Brighton (H), Double Gameweek of Man City (A) & Newcastle (A) before a potential double gameweek 33 of Bournemouth (H) & Arsenal (A) sees him as a value play from a number of fixtures perspective. He has been inconsistent in the league this season but has posted strong underlying numbers while also producing 8 goals and assists in 7 fixtures in cup competitions. This includes A goal and assist in their most recent cup fixture against Fulham on the weekend.
Jacob Murphy & Anthony Gordon are the two Newcastle midfielders you should be keeping an eye on. An upcoming fixture run of Brentford (H), Leicester (A), double gameweek of Man United (H) & Crystal Palace (H) and also a bonus of having a blank gameweek 34 fixture against Ipswich at Home. Gordon is currently under an injury cloud whilst also suspended for Gameweek 30 but both he and Murphy have provided great support to Isak this season up front for the Magpies.
Murphy has 13 returns in 21 starts while Gordon has 12 returns in 25 starts.
The combination of number of fixtures, fixture quality and Newcastle’s form makes them good choices at prices that give good value.
We also have the returning Saka who seems to be ready to start against Fulham, the Gunners also have a potential double in GW33 which makes Saka a tempting option especially on Wildcard.

Arteta confirms that Bukayo Saka has already played a match (behind closed doors) as part of his recovery: “Yeah we played once, but before that he had six consecutive sessions with the team. He was good. He played that game and he felt completely fine.”

3. Best Forwards from FPL GW30 Onwards

Erling Haaland was a key figure in the plans for the run home for many FPL managers. Some manager have already transferred him in while some were planning to wildcard him in this gameweek or next gameweek. The ankle injury sustained by Haaland during the Cup game is set to rule him out for an extended period.
Haaland injury update: “Manchester City FC can confirm that Erling Haaland has suffered an injury to his left ankle. The Norwegian striker sustained the injury during Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final victory away at AFC Bournemouth. Erling underwent initial tests in Manchester on Monday morning and will now seek specialist consultation to confirm the full extent of the injury. Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain a full prognosis. The expectation is that Erling will be fit in time to play a further part in the remainder of this season, including this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.” via Man City Website
This opens the door for Omar Marmoush who has 4 goals and 1 assist across 6 starts since joining Manchester City. He will likely see increased minutes and upcoming fixtures Leicester (H) and Manchester United (A) could provide instant rewards to those willing to take the risk.
Isak should be a staple in all teams by now. With a double gameweek coming up and fixtures that are good enough until the end of the season, he remains a top option.
Chris Wood is also under an injury cloud. He missed Forest’s important cup tie due to injury and could potentially miss the next two gameweeks if the injury needs another week to heal.
Mateta has returned from his frightening ear injury against Millwall and is likely to start the bulk of Palace’s upcoming fixtures. Similar to Eze above, he has a great run of fixtures including a Double and managers will hope he can return with his post-injury form.

4. GW30 Key Fixture Analysis

Manchester City v Leicester. Manchester City v Leicester was always going to be a key fixture for Gameweek 30 but it may be for different reasons.
Haaland exited City’s cup fixture early due to an ankle injury and it is now confirmed that he’ll be out for a while. Marmoush was Haaland’s substitute and scored the decisive goal. At £7.3m with a goal and assist to his name in his last premier league fixture, he could be the go-to for many managers.
Gvardiol is another asset that has been receiving more attention in recent times. With a soft run of fixtures and likely two double gameweeks remaining, he provides value from a number of fixtures, clean sheet likelihood and attacking threat standpoint. Although he has positioned more defensively in recent weeks and City have struggled to keep as many clean sheets as previous season, he could be a shrewed pick for the run home.
Chelsea v Tottenham. Palmer’s form as discussed earlier has been inconsistent but he is back in training after a lay off with injury and Jackson is also likely to start which will be key for Chelsea and Palmer’s fortunes alike.

Tottenham’s poor defensive form and overall form is again at risk of being exposed if Chelsea find their mojo. Chelsea have scored 10 goals in their last 3 fixtures against Spurs and will look to add to this tally as they host Tottenham at Stamford Bridge and look to secure Champions League football in what is a congested table standings.
