FPL GW12 Tips & Preview

Most Important Transfer Consideration

FPL GW12 Tips & Preview - Most Important Transfer Consideration

Now that we have passed the final International Break for the foreseeable future, there is one important factor that you now need to consider when making any transfer for the middle period of the season.

How likely the player is to be rotated.

With mid-week gameweeks, cup competitions and European competition final stages on the agenda, getting your players on the pitch will be half the battle.

The last thing you want to see is the pain of your asset missing an amazing home fixture to allow them to rest up for their tough fixture next gameweek. You also need to consider substitutions.

43% of goals on average are scored after the 60th minute. If your forward or midfielder is being substituted around the 60 – 70th minute mark, it could be doing more damage than you first thought.

Saka, Palmer, Bruno Fernandes, Salah, Haaland and the like are examples of nailed on assets who will play the majority of minutes.

Hold or Sell Trent Alexander-Arnold Ahead of FPL GW12

FPL GW12 Tips & Preview - Hold or Sell Trent Alexander-Arnold Ahead of FPL GW12

A contentious asset this season is Trent Alexander-Arnold. So far he has provided believers with 5 clean sheets, 1 Assist and 6 bonus points. A solid return but ideally you want a bit more from a £7.0m defender.

He is carrying an injury or two and after this week, faces a tough run of fixtures and a lower prospect of clean sheets in the medium term.

His underlying stats (0.4 Expected Goals, 2.5 Expected Assists) suggest he could have recorded almost three assists and he hit the crossbar at least once from a free-kick. As an owner, you should take the points you have earned and downgrade him to improve your team elsewhere. Freeing up funds for the likes of Palmer & Saka will allow for a stronger and more secure team through the busy December period.

Hold or Sell Ollie Watkins Ahead of FPL GW12

I want to re-visit a section from a previous week’s article as I feel it needs to be mentioned again.

Aston Villa have three home fixtures against Crystal Palace, Brentford & Southampton in their next four fixtures. The one away fixture is against Chelsea which would be a good matchup for Aston Villa and Watkins in terms of goalscoring.

Watkins had a superb 23/24 season recording 19 goals and 18 assists. Although many of these assists came from winning penalties, even reducing this number gives him great output for a £9.0m forward.

Even with a slow start to this season, Watkins has 5 goals and 2 assists on the board in 10 starts. He missed two big chances and created one big chance over the last two weeks but was unlucky to not return any points.

Watkins can score in any fixture, as shown in the 23/24 season when we hit the scoresheet against twelve different teams.

Watkins and Villa still continue to post strong expected goals. I would hold Watkins if I have him or potentially look to transfer him in if you’re looking for a slight differential.

FPL GW12 Key Fixture Analysis

FPL GW12 Tips & Preview - GW12 Key Fixture Analysis

Arsenal host Nottingham Forest in a fixture that would be considered must-win internally to get their title charge back on track. Meanwhile Nottingham Forest sit 5th on the table after a strong run of results across favourable early fixtures. Although they lost convincingly 3-1 to Newcastle at home in GW11.

Arsenal have had the upper hand over Forest in recent seasons, especially at the Emirates (winning 5-0 & 2-1 in their recent meetings). They also welcome back the services of their captain Martin Odegaard who is equally the most important player in the team along with Saka. Expect Arsenal to win and more likely than not, keep a clean sheet. They have been unlucky in recent weeks and are due to return to their clean sheet form.

Manchester City v Tottenham is the fixture to watch this gameweek. Spurs have well and truly been City’s bogey team in recent seasons, earning 5 wins and 1 draw in their previous 9 Premier League meetings. With City being without the services of Rodri and struggling for defensive form, expect the likes of Son & Johnson to provide some attacking returns on the counter.

Spurs themselves are also susceptible on defence, especially in away fixtures. Their style of build up play and aggressive intent is perfect for Haaland to exploit and makes him one of the top captaincy choices this week.
