Sleeper Draft Fantasy GW5 – Best Punts and Hidden Gems

Dwight McNeil

Dwight McNeil has had a great start to the season with 3 goal contributions from the first 4 games- 1 goal, 2 assists. His underlying numbers also look excellent with 4 Shots, 2 Shots inside the box, 2.27 xA, 17 Chances created and 5 Big Chances created. In fact, his 5 Big Chances created is the Highest in the league.

Up against a Leicester side who are yet to keep a clean sheet this season and are ranked 15th for xGC this season, McNeil should fancy his chances of another return. The upcoming fixtures also look good for Everton as they face all the promoted sides in 3 out of the 6 games- Leicester(A), Palace(H), Newcastle(H), Ipswich(A), Fulham(H), Southampton(A).

Sugawara

Don’t be surprised to see a Southampton defender in here, but it all about playing the fixtures game in the Draft league. With Man City and Arsenal playing each other- If you are looking for a Defender in the Free Market, Sugawara can be an excellent one week punt vs Ipswich at home. He is listed as a defender, but takes up very good attacking positions on the right side. He has already got a goal this season and has good attack numbers- 5 Chances created, 3 Big Chances created, 5 Shots, 0.89 xGI.

Key Stat: Only Trent Alexander Arnold(4) has created more Big chances than Sugawara(3) among Defenders this season.

Wilfred Ndidi

With Skipp and Winks playing as the holding midfielders, Ndidi has got the license and has played as a No.10 in the last 2 games taking up more attacking positions. It has also transformed into results as he got 3 assists from the last 2 games– Involving in all the 3 goals Leicester scored over the last 2 matches. Only Saka and Palmer(4) have more assists than him this season.

He has also created 4 Big chances which is the Joint 2nd Highest in the league this season. He is one of those picks who is very likely not picked up in the initial drafts. So hop on to him and get him on the waivers in your Draft leagues.

Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy is never finished! Even at 37, he still continues to perform well in Premier League with 2 goals from the first 4 games. He had 3 Big chances and recorded an impressive 1.51 xGI from the 4 matches so far.

In GW5, Vardy has a good matchup vs Everton- Everton have terrible defensive numbers and have conceded the joint most Shots on Target (27) and the most Big Chances (19) in the League so far. They have conceded 13 Goals so far and the 2nd most xGC (8.31). Leicester also have good fixtures- Playing EVE(H), SOU(A), IPS(A) in 3 of the next 6 games.

Kevin Schade

Wissa has been ruled out for 2 months with an injury. With Toney leaving and new signing Thiago also injured the onus in on Schade to take up the striker boots. In the midweek EFL Cup game, Schade played as a striker. He is likely to play as a striker again in GW5 with Mbeumo and Carvalho on either flanks who are quality players that can supply Schade. Brentford are up against Spurs in GW5 and the fixtures after that are also good as they have already played Manchester City and Liverpool in the first 4 games.

Thomas Frank on Wissa:

“Wissa is not good news. It looks like an injury that will be a couple of months. It’s very frustrating. It will leave a hole but I will find a solution and other players will step up”

Liam Delap

With Wissa ruled out and injury concerns to Isak and Pedro(Both doubtful), Liam Delap can be a good punt this week in your Draft leagues. Delap’s underlying data is good with 0.39 xG with 2 Shots on Target and 2 Big Chances and 3 Chances created. He also got a goal in GW3 vs Fulham. In GW4 vs Brighton he was unlucky and should have got a goal making a brilliant solo run and hitting the post.

Matchup alert- Southampton have conceded 18 chances down the center this season which is the 2nd highest among all the teams in the league. Liam Delap would want to make most of this matchup in GW5

Other worthy mentions of Low Rostered picks to consider for FPL GW5:

  • Brereton Diaz
  • Fabio Carvalho
  • Omari Hutchinson
  • Eddie Nketiah
  • Raul Jimenez
  • Alex Moreno
