FPL GW4 Tips – Key Tips & Questions Answered

1. Haaland & Salah plans

Haaland faces Brentford (H) and Arsenal (H) in the next two fixtures while Salah faces Nottingham Forest (H) and Bournemouth (H).

Other than the Arsenal fixture for Man City, the fixtures are highly targetable for attacking returns and captaincy, especially as they are home fixtures. Owning Salah in GW5 could come in very handy for captaincy as Haaland has historically struggled against Arsenal in recent seasons while Liverpool host Bournemouth at Anfield. Managers who own Saka will also be in strife as Arsenal are unlikely to score a bag of goals at the Etihad.

Although Haaland has six goals in his last two fixtures, Salah is still the preferred asset over the next two to three gameweeks. A wildcard around GW6 or GW7 could help to navigate this next period and bring Haaland into your lineup.

2. International Break Injuries

We hope everyone has enjoyed their break from FPL as international games commenced across the globe.

You may be keeping an eye on your assets to see if they are scoring, but I would not put any weight behind these results at all. Very rarely does international football performance translate to club form and performance.

However, keeping an eye on injuries to key players is something that is useful to keep an eye on during this break.

Martin Ødegaard went down with an ankle injury last night, which has been initially described as minor but that could mean at least 1-2 gameweeks out. If you have him, I would transfer him out (pending press conference news). But just as importantly, understanding how this affects the remainder of Arsenal assets is important. It is worth noting that Declan Rice is also suspended for GW4 vs Spurs.

Havertz could be deployed in midfield rather than striker. Saka now has less creative assistance on the right side. The defence could see a slight downgrade as the Arsenal captain dictated play as the engine room in midfield.

Something to keep an eye on and consider in transfer and wildcard plans.

3. Isak & Gordon decisions

Many managers are looking to offload Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon after a slightly underwhelming start to the season. In most cases, this is to fund moves to Haaland & Salah.

Many of these moves are positive overall but in some cases, especially where hits are being taken, this can be detrimental to your team.

Newcastle have been underwhelming so far this season but this can be attributed to a red card in their opening fixture and an issue of personnel across the starting XI. There are also fears that the next two fixtures being away for Newcastle won’t be fruitful due to their away performances last season.

The return of Sandro Tonali is a big creative positive in midfield in place of Sean Longstaff. Kieran Trippier retiring from international duty could see him start in the place of Tino Livramento who has travelled with the England squad.

Gordon and Isak Stats so far:

Although their away form was not up to the standard of their home form, Newcastle still scored eight goals against Sheffield United, four against Burnley & Brentford and three against Aston Villa & Notthingham Forest in away fixtures last season. Wolves & Fulham in the next two fixtures are on the easier side of away fixtures.

4. Joao Pedro & Yankuba Minteh

As many managers tear apart their team to include both Haaland & Salah, the spotlight has turned to budget enablers who can free up cash for these premium juggernauts.

Two of the best choices currently are Pedro & Minteh. For a combined £11.2, you can have a talented #9 who is also the designated penalty taker combined with one of the most exciting young wingers in the league.

Pedro and Minteh Stats so far:

Home fixtures against Ipswich & Nottingham Forest followed by fixtures against Chelsea & Tottenham suggest attacking returns are up for the taking.

You can’t go wrong transferring in either one or both of these players into your team.
