Best FPL Goalkeepers to Target For The 2024/25 FPL Season

With the start of The 2024/2025 season less than a month away, managers are starting to make their drafts ahead of the campaign! One of the key, but sometimes the most overlooked position in FPL is the Goalkeeper. Many managers will be focussing on juggling the likes of Erling Haaland and Mohammed Salah in their teams, which is of course essential to get right! However, having a decent FPL goalkeeper who has a good chance of getting you around 4 points per game will prove essential come the end of the season. They might not be getting you 10-point hauls like your forwards, however, some do end up out-scoring some big names at the end of the campaign. For example, to put into perspective some goalkeepers scored more points last season than some big names such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Eberechi Eze, and Nicholas Jackson. The latter of whom scored x14 goals and provided x6 assists in 31 starts last season…

Now we have established the importance of this position, let’s have a look at some FPL Goalkeepers ahead of the start of the new campaign!

FPL Goalkeepers Analysis For the 2024/25 Season

Premium FPL Goalkeepers(5.5m)

David Raya (5.5m) – Arsenal

Best FPL Goalkeepers - Raya

The Spaniard had an impressive season, to say the least, last year. He is one of the 2 premium goalkeepers in this blog, who is priced at 5.5m.

I believe Raya is the best goalkeeper option for FPL managers this season. He is the cheapest and most reliable route into the Arsenal defense. The Gunners had the best defense last season and kept 18 clean sheets. Raya kept 16 of these clean sheets and racked up 135 points in the process. Raya also averaged 4.2 points per match last season. Arteta has made it clear that the 28-year-old is now his number 1 choice. Raya more than repaid his gaffer last season after he conceded just 24 goals in 32 starts.

Looking ahead to this season, Raya looks set to have another impressive campaign. Fantasy Football Hub predicts Raya to score 34.2 points in his first eight GWs. (More than any other keeper). Arsenal also have some favorable fixtures at the start of the season. The Gunners play the likes of Wolves (H), Brighton (H), Leicester (H) and Southampton (H) all in the first eight gameweeks. Due to these fixtures, Fantasy Football Hub also predicts Arsenal will keep the most clean sheets between GW1-8.

As mentioned, I think he is the best option for managers in between the sticks.

Alisson Becker (5.5m) – Liverpool

Best FPL Goalkeepers - Alisson

Alisson is another option for managers to consider in the 5.5m bracket. The Brazilian achieved 107 points last season in 28 starts. During this period he made 83 saves and kept 8 clean sheets for The Reds. He did this at an average of 3.8 points per match. Arne Slot will be hoping that Alisson can build on his impressive campaign and keep some clean sheets early on, in which they have some favorable fixtures. Liverpool will play the likes of Ipswich (A), Brentford (H), Forrest (H), and Wolves (A) all in the first x8 GWs.

Fantasy Football Hub predicts Alisson to earn 31.7 points in his first 8 gameweeks. This is at an average of just under 4 points per match. I think there are potentially other options at GK instead of Alisson, however, he is a solid choice who you know is going to play every game if fit.

Mid-Price FPL Goalkeepers(5.0m)

Jordan Pickford (5.0m) – Everton

Best FPL Goalkeepers - Pickford

England’s number 1 was the top-scoring goalkeeper last season as he recorded 153 points. Pickford played all 38 games for The Toffees, making 121 saves and keeping 13 clean sheets in the process. Everton’s defense is looking strong under manager Sean Dyche and they too have some attractive fixtures early on in the campaign. They face the likes of Brighton (H), Bournemouth (H) Leicester (A) and Ipswich (A) in the opening x8 GWs.

The 30-year-old averaged 4.0 points per game last season. Only Arsenal’s Raya averaged more. Fantasy Football Hub is predicting Pickford to have another strong start to the season. He is expected to earn 31.5 points in the first x8 GWs. At just 5.0m, Pickford is a great option for managers to consider. If you want a goalkeeper that will 100% start and earn you regular points and is a bit cheaper than Raya and Alisson, Pickford is your man!

Emiliano Martinez (5.0M) – Aston Villa

Best FPL Goalkeepers - Emi Martinez

Aston Villa’s Martinez could be a tempting option for some managers at 5.0m. He picked up 115 points last season in 34 starts for the club. He averaged 3.4 points per game last campaign and made 95 saves. Unai Emery has made a huge impact since becoming the manager of Villa and he will look to be in and around the European places again this season. Martinez will play a key role in this at the heart of the defense. According to Fantasy Football Hub, Villa has the joint easiest defensive fixtures between GW1-8. During this period they will face the likes of Leicester (A), Everton (H), Wolves (H) and Ipswich (A).

Martinez is playing in a team that looks very strong at the back with the likes of Ezri Konsa (4.5m) and Pau Torres (4.5m) playing in front of him. Not to forget Tyronne Mings (4.5m) who will help strengthen this defense even more when he eventually returns from injury.

Pickford and Martinez are in my opinion the best options at 5.0m. However, some could also be tempted by Newcastle’s Nick Pope (5.0m), who was injured for most of last season. Pope could be a handy differential in this bracket, selected by just 5.8% of managers at the time of writing.

Budget FPL Goalkeepers(4.5m)

Mark Flekken (4.5m) – Brentford

Best FPL Goalkeepers - Flekken

Flekken comes in this season at just 4.5m and is a great option for managers at this price. He was the 5th highest-scoring goalkeeper last season with 119 points. The Dutchman started 37 games last season and kept 7 clean sheets. He also made a vital 115 saves. Flekken is predicted to score 29.2 points in the first x8 GWs in what is a mixed fixture list for The Bees. They have some favorable games against the likes of Southampton (H), West Ham (H) and Wolves (H).

However, they also have some tough fixtures such as Liverpool (A), Man City (A), Spurs (A), and Man United (A) all in the first x8 GWs. He is an option for managers, especially if you want to save some funds to spend elsewhere.

Pre-season update: Brentford have been conceding a lot of goals in pre-season with their last friendly being a 4-4 draw vs Wolfsburg.

Dean Henderson (4.5m) – Crystal Palace

Best FPL Goalkeepers - Dean Henderson

The Eagles kept 10 clean sheets last season (joint 4th most in the league). This was more than the likes of Chelsea, Spurs, Villa and Man United. Oliver Glasner has stamped his authority since becoming Palace’s manager and they finished the season in fine form. They were unbeaten in their final 7 games of the season and kept clean sheets against some big clubs including, Aston Villa, Man United, Newcastle, and Liverpool.

Palace open their 24/25 campaign with some tempting fixtures against Brentford (A), West Ham (H), Leicester (H), Everton (A), and Forrest (A) in the opening x8 GWs.

Palace playing 11 vs Nantes

Dean Henderson is confirmed as the number one GK option with Sam Johnstone looking to leave the club to look for first-team opportunities.

Robert Sanchez – Chelsea

Best FPL Goalkeepers - Rob Sanchez

Although Chelsea only kept 8 clean sheets last season, I think it is worth keeping an eye on Sanchez/Filip Jorgensen. Jorgensen has been signed by Chelsea to provide competition to Sanchez and Petkovic who was Chelsea’s GK towards the end of last season is expected to leave. They have a tricky fixture in GW1 against Man City, however, after that, they face the likes of Wolves (A), West Ham (A), Brighton (H), and Forrest (H).

Filip Jorgensen is also priced at 4.5 million. It’s highly likely that Chelsea start with Sanchez and potentially replace him with Filip Jorgensen based on performance/results.

Jorgensen played Chelsea’s 2nd last friendly(Real Madrid), and Sanchez played the last friendly(vs Inter Millan)

I don’t think many will go for this option, however I just wanted to put it out there. With a new manager and defenders returning from long-term injury layoffs, Chelsea will be hoping to tighten up at the back.

Other 4.5 Million FPL Goalkeepers:

  • Sels: Nottingham Forest have great fixtures to begin the season, Sels seems to be the preferred option at the moment with and started both of their last two friendlies
  • Areola: Decent option at 4.5 Million, offers points through saves & West Ham have improved their defence with the signing of Todibo & Aaron Wan-Bissaka
  • Jose Sa: Jose Sa has been kindly priced at just 4.5 Million, his fixtures aren’t great at the beginning of the season but could be an option later in the season.

Best FPL Goalkeeper Rotations

Instead of opting for the one goalkeeper and a random 4.0m option. Bearing in mind at the time of writing, there is no obvious 4.0m starter in this position. Some may choose to get x2 keepers which rotate well with each other. Let’s have a look at the x2 best options in the 4.5 bracket for this strategy.

  • Flekken + Henderson -> Excellent rotation
  • Sels + Henderson
  • Sanchez + Henderson
  • Sanchez + Sels
  • Sanchez + Flekken

If you rotate Chelsea and Brentford defenders correctly till GW18 as per the above rotation, you will have-

  • 0/18 games against Last season’s Top 6
  • 3/18 games against Last season’s 7th-10th placed teams
  • 15/18 games against Last season’s 11th-17th placed teams and Newly Promoted sides.

Note on 4.0 Million GKs: There are currently no first-choice 4.0 Million GKs like we had in previous seasons(Turner, Areola, Ward/Iversen, etc). A couple of 4.0 Million GKs are 2nd choice – Hákon Valdimarsson(Brentford), Łukasz Fabiański(West Ham, To be confirmed as West Ham signed Sheffield United keeper Wes Foderingham too)

Remi Matthews is also a four million option for the 2nd GK spot with Sam Johnstone expected to leave.
