Euro 2024 Fantasy vs 2020 Fantasy: Changes to the Game + Draft

Another FPL season is over and with Euro 2024 starts in around three weeks, so quite a few fantasy lovers are making their drafts to enjoy the game during the competition. The official game has been launched about two weeks ago and here we take a look at the biggest differences compared to the previous version of the game.

In general, the games is so similar to UCL Fantasy and way too different from FPL as you can find the article which deeply look over the differences here. But considering the Euro Fantasy, there are also two aspects that we find the game has changed since the Euro Fantasy 2020 version: first, there are some extra rules that didn’t exist in the 2020 version, and the second is about the player price tags. In this article we talk over these two aspects and how they affect the strategy we should play the game.

Euro 2024 Fantasy vs 2020 Fantasy

1) Rules

As you can find the ultimate guide in here, all the rules like Substitutions, Transfers, Chips, and Deadlines are exactly the same as before, except for Scoring points that we have two new rules: Every 3 balls recovered has +1 point and Player of the Match award has +3 points. These rules actually exist in UCL Fantasy in the last 2 seasons but it was not the case for Euro 2020 Fantasy.

2) Player Prices

By checking the prices and comparing them to the previous version, it’s concluded that Forwards and Midfielders are cheaper than before! The most expensive forwards in Euro 2020 Fantasy were Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) & Kylian Mbappe (France) for €12m, and then Harry Kane (England) & Robert Lewandowski (Poland) €11.5m. While in the Euro 2024 Fantasy, Kylian Mbappe (France) & Harry Kane (England) are the most expensive forwards for €11m, and then Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) for €10m!

The same goes for the midfielders: while Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium) & Bruno Fernandes (Portugal) were the most expensive ones for €10.5m in Euro 2020 Fantasy, now we have Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium) & Jude Bellingham (England) as the most expensive midfielders in Euro 2024 Fantasy for €9.5m!

How these differences affect the game and our strategy?

The first conclusion is that the Defensive midfielders (that are usually cheaper in price) are now much more interesting and valuable picks than before, as Rodri or Kroos or Rice (all for €6.5m) or even Jorginho (€5m) can provide some ball recovery points and even gain +3 points if they win Player of the Match award!

Secondly, it seems easier to fit more number of players from the most favorable teams (according to the odds) all at the same time in your team, even in the group stage. Here I just put a possible draft consisting 15 players from the most favorable teams:

3x Germany
3x England
2x France
2x Portugal
2x Belgium
1x Spain
1x Netherlands
1x Italy
