FPL GW35 Tips- Wildcard Strategy, Arsenal Players & More

FPL GW35 Tips – Key Questions/Dilemmas Answered

1) How do you get the most out of the Wildcard team in GW35?

Gameweek 35 will be a popular week for managers to play their Wildcard as it sets them well for the Double Gameweeks in 35 and 37. Double Gameweek fixtures are as follows

Double Gameweek 35
✅ Chelsea vs Villa(A), Tottenham(H)
✅ Tottenham vs Arsenal(H), Chelsea(A)

Double Gameweek 37
✅ Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest(A), Brighton(A)
✅ Newcastle vs Brighton(H), Man Utd(A)
✅ Tottenham vs Burnley(H), Man City(H)
✅ Man City vs Fulham(A), Tottenham(A)
✅ Man Utd vs Arsenal(H), Newcastle(H)
✅ Brighton vs Newcastle(A), Chelsea(H)

Chelsea is the obvious team to target here, and Palmer is a must-buy. Other players are tricky to choose. Chelsea aren’t solid defensively, and Gusto’s knee injury is a concern. He can still be an option if he is fit, but I’m not expecting many Chelsea clean sheets here.

You can even go with Petrovic in goal. He can still be good for save points, but other than him, there are no obvious choices in defence. Nicolas Jackson is an option if you want to go aggressive, and doubling up on the Chelsea attack is the way to go here.

The second team doubling in GW35 and 37 is Tottenham. Son Heung-min is pretty much a lock, but like Chelsea, it is difficult to pick other players. Pedro Porro is back in training and should be okay. He is a great option going forward, but here, too, do not expect clean sheets. If you want to differentiate, Brennan Johnson is an excellent pick. He has been quite regular in the Spurs team, and you can benefit from his attacking threat.

Coming to the obvious picks for GW37, Man City has a good double, and you can get in Haaland + Foden as the attacking combo. Foden provides more value than KDB, but the latter is better if you want to go differential. A 3rd City player is optional – in case you want to get in a defender, but it’s tough to nail one pick here. You can get Ederson for the safety of his starts. If I had to choose one defender, I’d go for Dias here.

Newcastle is another team I’d be interested in investing in for their double in 37. Fabian Schär is a great pick in defence, providing an excellent goal threat. We can double up on the Newcastle attack with Gordon and Isak. Both are reasonably priced and are in fantastic form. Tripling up on Newcastle is a great strategy and likely to be popular as they have great fixtures from now till the end of the season.

I am not very keen on Man Utd and Brighton players, as there are better players to choose from. Bruno Fernandes has been in great form in attack, and he can definitely be a great 4th or 5th midfielder choice. Garnacho is the cheaper alternative if you are on a budget.

If you are ‘Bench Boosting’, you can go with someone like Maguire in the United defence. Don’t expect clean sheets here, but if anything comes up, it’s a bonus.

2) What should we do with players with no Double gameweeks coming up?

Ollie Watkins and the Arsenal players are giving us quite the dilemma this week. Both Villa and Arsenal have no double gameweeks from now till the end of the season. The logic is to transfer out at least a few players from these teams or take them out entirely on a Wildcard. But it’s not really that simple!

Ollie Watkins has scored 29 points in the last 3 games and can do well again this week against an unpredictable Chelsea defence. Removing him is still a considerable risk, but if you want to go aggressive, you can take him out for players like Jackson and Isak. I’d still rate him ahead of Jackson in terms of output despite having fewer games.

Not having any Arsenal players can be damaging and undo all your excellent work until now. Having at least one Arsenal defender makes sense if you want to play it safer. Gabriel is still the cheapest pick to go for, and he is pretty decent.

Arsenal attackers are purely optional. I expect Saka’s ownership to go down, but he can still do some damage. If you want to protect rank and play it safe, keep Saka instead of Fernandes (or whichever fifth midfielder you have) if you have the flexibility.

The rest of the players are all worth selling for Double Gameweek 35 & 37 options.

3) How do you plan your transfers if you do not have a Wildcard?

Many managers have used their Wildcard in the GW30-33 window and are looking for the best strategy in terms of transfers from now till the season ends. While there is no rule or guideline, focusing on options from Chelsea and Tottenham for this week makes sense. Having enough cover from both teams benefits you for GW35 & 37 both. At least try to have 2 to 3 attackers in total from both, and the rest you can see depending on how aggressive you want.

Once you have that ready, you can focus on getting back Haaland if you have already sold him. Double up with Foden. A double Man City attack is looking good for GW37. As I mentioned earlier, having a City defender is optional, but you can get one if you are looking to cover the third Man City spot in your team.

Post Man City, I would look at Newcastle players as they are value for money and can be brought in easily. The Schar, Gordon and Isak trio will be popular among the Wildcarders and try to cover at least two if possible.

Suppose you are in a comfortable position and have most of the above sorted. In that case, you can then attack with players from Man United and set yourself up well. (especially if you have your Bench Boost remaining)

Taking a few hits from now to GW37 is also fine if you don’t have the Wildcard available. Players like Son, Palmer, Foden, and Haaland are good picks. Try getting them in ASAP, even if you have to take hits. You can easily recover the lost points by making these options your captaincy picks.
