Matchday Two of the 2022 World Cup Fantasy kicks off this Friday. So whether you are hitting the Wildcard button or making the best use of your two free transfers, targeting the fixtures seems a good play.
With one game of data in the bank, some reasonable assumptions can be made, but with tournament football, things can quickly turn on their head.
Read on to find out the best fixtures to target heading into Matchday Two and who are the best picks from within those games.
We have not mentioned the very obvious fixtures/players to target and look at some of the under-the-radar teams/players to target!

World Cup Fantasy Matchday Two Fixtures & Players to Target
Qatar vs Senegal:
Two teams that opened their tournament with a loss are now badly in need of a win in Matchday Two if they hope to qualify for the knockout rounds.
Qatar looked awful on their opening day defeat by Ecuador, especially in an attacking sense, as they managed no shots on target and just 0.32 expected goals.
Meanwhile, Senegal looked reasonably solid in defence, unlucky to concede two goals.
Players to target:
- Youssouf Sabaly, DEF ($4.0m)
At just $4.0m, the marauding right-back is a brilliant choice. The defender got up and down that right touchline and had one shot on target and three key passes.
- Pape Abou Cisse, DEF ($4.5m)
Another cheap defensive option. Cisse could provide more threat from corners and set pieces which the Qatari keeper looked less than assured under on the opening day.
- Ismailia Sarr, FWD ($6.5m)
Probably Senegal’s most dangerous attacker, with three shots and unlucky not to score. Qatar look vulnerable down their right-hand side, and Sarr is more than capable of exploiting that.

Netherlands vs Ecuador:
The Netherlands weren’t hugely impressive in their opening-day win against Senegal but still should have too much for what looks like an exciting Ecuador team.
Ecuador are not as defensively solid as Senegal, and it should be easier for the Dutch to play through them and create opportunities. It’s hard to draw any conclusions from Ecuador’s first game but they look good in attack so relying on attacking returns from the Dutch players seems the way to go.
Players to target
- Denzel Dumfries, DEF ($6.0m)
Largely disappointing in terms of executing against Senegal, Dumfries was still in all the right areas. Playing almost as a right winger, the defender is always capable of a massive haul.
- Cody Gakpo, FWD ($7.0m)
Probably the Netherlands’ most significant threat, Gakpo was all over the park and took his goal well. He also had three key passes, which shows his assist potential.
- Memphis Depay FWD ($8.5m)
Back from injury and in contention to start the next game, Depay is always a good consideration. His goal record for the Oranje speaks for itself, and he takes free kicks and penalties too.

England vs USA:
Gareth Southgate’s men were hugely impressive in their opening-day defeat of Iran 6-2, and while the USA should provide a more challenging test, England’s array of attacking talent should be too much for them.
The USA, for all their good play and pressure in the first half vs Wales, failed to test the goalkeeper and managed just one shot on target all game.
Players to target:
- Bukayo Saka, MID ($8.0m)
Possibly a bit of knee-jerking here, but the Arsenal man looked electric on day one and took his goals well. His confidence will be sky-high going into Matchday Two, which makes such a difference for goal scorers.
- Raheem Sterling, FWD ($8.5m)
With Weston McKennie a doubt for this one, the USA could be exposed down their right. With a goal and an assist in Matchday One, Sterling could have free reign and with deadly effect.
- Harry Maguire, DEF ($5.5m)
The ultimate differential punt, the Man United centre back was unlucky not to score against Iran, his headed attempt just hitting the crossbar. His goal record for England is decent and could make a shrewd acquisition this week. Maguire had two goal attempts against Iran.

Argentina vs Mexico:
It may seem counterintuitive, but after falling to one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history Argentina will be fired up to put things right in Matchday Two.
The tournament favourites were hopeless in Matchday One against a well-organised and determined Saudi Arabia side.
They will fancy their chances when they take the weakest Mexico side to appear at a World Cup in recent memory.
Players to target:
- Lionel Messi, FWD ($10.5m)
Hardly needs justification but he did have one goal, three shots on target and three key passes in the game. And that was while playing badly!
- Lautaro Martinez FWD ($8.0m)
But for VAR, he could have had a brace and while one was clearly offside, the other was a matter of centimetres. He takes up good positions in the box and is a proven goalscorer at all levels.
- Nahuel Molina, DEF ($5.5m)
I don’t give Mexico much of a chance of scoring here and Molina was the more involved and advanced of the two full backs. He also played the full 90 minutes as opposed to Tagliafico who came off on 70’.
Japan vs Costa Rica:
Another team who claimed a scalp in Matchday One, Japan can secure passage through to the round of 16 with a win against Costa Rica. Hajime Moriyasu’s men showed incredible skill, drive and composure to turn around a one goal deficit against Germany.
This fluid style and highly technical forward players should be too much for Costa Rica who were roundly beaten in their first game of the tournament, going down 7-0 to Spain.

Players to target:
- Daichi Kamada, MID ($5.5m)
Playing in a number ten role, Kamada operates just behind the striker and links the play with incisive passes. While his role was subdued against Germany, he should see more of the ball vs a Costa Rica side who like to give up possession.
- Takuma Asano, FWD ($5.5m)
A slightly riskier pick considering he did not start against Germany, however in 30 minutes off the bench he had five shots and scored the winner. Surely he’s done enough to earn himself a place in the starting lineup.
