A long break from FPL after the Ups and Downs of the last period was definitely needed to re-arrange the cards and have some sort of mind refreshment. In this FPL Chip Strategy article, we shall be covering different chips strategies and how optimally we trigger our second Wildcard button as well as Freehit(s), Triple Captain and Bench Boost

FPL Wildcard General Discussion
Generally speaking, Chips strategies are team dependent so the best one is the one which fits YOUR OWN TEAM STRUCTURE
Blank and double Gameweeks, Fixtures swing, Ronaldo or Bruno, Salah or KDB, and other factors making us to think about whether it’s worth changing the infrastructure of our teams at this stage. Generally, Before deciding whether to play your WC chip or not, I need to point to a major issue for some managers which is the ” Blind Following ” & “Catching the Trend“
Remember that you are playing your own game and everyone has his own strategy and short & long term plan so just follow what fits YOUR OWN STRATEGY
Personally, I am activating the WildCard if either there is an injury crisis or the number of transfers I want exceeds 6 ( In other words: 5 hits or more ). I need everyone reading these lines now to open his bus team for GW24 and ask him/herself Three questions:
1. What are the differences between my current team and my WC team?
2. How long my Wildcard team will last so i don’t need many other transfers soon?
3. Can I just re-structure my current team with minor hits (-4 or -8) to match my WC team?
Second Wildcard Optimal Use
The majority are looking forward to the upcoming doubles and blanks between GW25-30, Salah’s return & how to fit him back, some deadwoods in the team so let’s try to conclude a Wildcard guide but again, remember that the best strategy is the one which fits your own team plans
WC24
In my opinion WC24 Cons are more than its Pros. GW24 wildcarders are most probably looking for the near upsides by attacking the upcoming doubles & even good single fixtures as well as activating their Bench Boost by GW26 which means they will miss LIV Triple Captaincy
I can’t disagree that WC24 has good potential, but My Real problem with WC24 is the near negative implications Most of GW24 Wildcarders will be targeting MUN,BHA,AVL who will be having a bad fixture swing starting from GW 28-29, as well as LIV & ARS whom are blanking in GW27
Another factor which is blocking me to consider WC24 is the near great fixture swing in GW28 for other teams like Chelsea, Wolves, Saints and Arsenal which would definitely push you to ditch the players whome you just got them in Gameweek 24 and their fixtures turn bad after
Something else I have considered as a blocking point to WC24 is the huge gap until GW36 which is known to be the biggest double gameweek when the majority will activate their Bench Boost chip
WC28
Two factors made Wildcarding in 28 so tempting:
First : The Round 5 FA Cup ties showed that BGW30 is now expected to have only 3 fixtures if the favorites like Liverpool, Man City, Spurs and other PL win their matches which is very likely to happen
Three fixtures is not appealing for FH in my opinion specially for those who have only one Freehit So, you can just target some GW30 players in your WC28 and navigate to Gameweek30 while saving the FH for later (Maybe for DGW33)
Second is the shifting from Bad fixtures for some teams like MUN and AVL to good fixtures swing for some teams like CHE, WOL, LEE & SOU
My concern about WC28 is that we will need more effort between GW31-35 to have the desired team for DGW36 when we can use our Bench Boost By that being said, dead ending to BGW27 and Wildcarding in 28 is a strongly considered strategy.
WC31-35
Personally, I prefer playing the WC after GW30 when we will have multiple double gameweeks in 33,36 and 37
WC35 followed by BB36 which is expected to be the biggest Double gameweek this season is my current plan and the best route in my opinion
Wildcard Draft
If you decided to go early with your wildcard, below is my suggested draft
Note: Bruno will be Salah in GW26

Freehit
Due to the COVID postponements, Official FPL provided us an extra FH chip to facilitate the navigation and help FPL managers to deal with the abnormal covid situation and the mess that happened to the majority due to these postponements and ruining our short and long term strategies
With that being said, Let’s discuss when we can optimally use our free hit chips and make the best use of them either you have one or two
Free Hit in FPL GW26
FH26 floated on the surface (Specially for those having two freehits in the hands) after we got the announcement of Eight teams are having a double gameweek in 26
RApart from Liverpool (NOR+LEE) and Arsenal (BRE+WOL), I can’t see it worthy to use the chip in this gameweek
Free Hit in FPL GW27
Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Leicester are all blanking in Gameweek27 due to the EFL cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea so FH27 is an option for Managers who are loaded with players from those teams
In my opinion, Freehitting in GW27 is not worthy unless you have 5 or more players from the above teams. FH27 is also can be considered if you can navigate to BGW30 without using one of your Freehits
Free Hit in FPL GW30
Gameweek30 is expected to be the biggest blank week this season . Following The FA cup Round5 draw happened today which came good to the Premier league teams so if the favorites like Liverpool , Man City , Spurs …etc win as expected then we can have only 3 fixtures in GW30 :
– Aston Villa vs Arsenal
– Wolves vs Leeda
– Burnley vs Southampton [ If Westham beats Southampton in FA Cup R5 ]
If that’s the case, I won’t consider FreeHitting in GW30 as a tempting option
Free hit in FPL GW33
GW33 is expected to be a double & blank gameweek yet we don’t have any clear image about the nature of the fixtures
Beside the two FreeHits owners, Those also who have only one FreeHit could still use it in DGW33 if they managed to navigate to BGW30 without using the their chip

Triple Captain
The Triple Captain chip is probably used in one of the mini double gameweeks.
DGW26 fixtures are officially announced and we all see Liverpool will have NOR(H) + LEE(H) so no need to talk to much as It s pretty obvious that the Triple Captaincy will be locked on Salah

Bench Boost
Generally, the optimal usage of the Bench Boost chip comes after activating the wildcard when you have set up the team properly and targeted the best Single and double game week players
BB36 seems optimal for me since DGW36 is expected to be the largest while BB26 is an option but for Only for those who have the balls to go without triple captaining Salah as we will have amazing single gameweek fixtures which might be compensating Salah’s TC points
