FPL GW21 Differential Picks to Consider | FPL GW21 Preview

The first FPL deadline of the new year is upon us surrounded by a lot of uncertainty. At the time of writing two games have been postponed(Southampton vs Newcastle and Leicester vs Norwich) and no info on the potential double game weeks in GW21 and GW22. But we are back with the differential picks for this FPL GW21 following a very successful week for our differentials in GW20 where Bowen, Foden, Lukaku, King all returned.

PS: The double gameweeks were announced after we finished the blog with Westham, Everton and Brentford doubling. Unfortunately, Bowen and Antonio are owned by more than 10% ownership and don’t qualify as differentials. Coufal/Johnson could be good differentials whom we have covered in our defenders blog. The metrics has a 17/20 record this year. Last week the metric predicted Salah as the best captaincy candidate but he ended up blanking having missed a penalty in the game. FPL GW21 Differential Picks

Raheem Sterling vs Arsenal(A)

Manchester City’s trip to London is one of two headline fixtures in FPL GW21. The Champions beat Brentford by 1-0 last time out, a game which Sterling sat out. The Midfielder has been rested in two of the last four matches. However, he has 5 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 starts. Following his rest last match, he is more or less nailed to start. As a result of which the Englishman is our top differential pick for this week.

Raheem Sterling- Key Stats

• Sterling has the best xG (per 90) and BC (per 90) in the league post GW12
• The midfielder has scored in each of his last three trips to the Emirates Stadium.

Lucas Moura vs Watford(A)

Another player who was a victim of festive period rotation was Lucas Moura. The Brazilian was only on the bench at St. Mary’s. The benching came on the back of a heroic 17 point haul against Crystal Palace. Moura registered a goal and 2 assists against the Eagles. The midfielder has 2 goals and 3 assists this season, all of which has come after the arrival of Antonio Conte. In fact, since the Italian took over only Son(6) has made more goal contributions than the Brazilian(5).

Meanwhile, Watford have conceded 32% of their chances through their right side, the joint sixth-worst in the league. Lucas Moura will be looking to exploit the apparent weakness the Hornets seem to have. Spurs have several potential double Gameweeks coming up. Besides, Moura is so cheap that he could easily fit into our teams as a fourth option in midfielder.

Odsonne Edouard vs WestHam(H)

Edouard had a Gameweek to savor, as he helped Crystal Palace trash Norwich by 3-0. The striker’s 14 point haul(1 goal, 2 assists) was only bettered by Leicester’s Kasper Schmeichel. The Frenchman has a goal and 4 assists in the last three Matchdays. In the absence of their talisman Zaha, Patrick Viera will once again expect Eduoard to lead the line against WestHam.

Numbers Game

• Westham have conceded at least 2 goals in 4 of their last 7 matches
• David Moyes’ men have given away 40% of their chances through the center, a tally much higher than the other two areas
• Edouard has more goal involvements(5) in the last three matches than what he had in his first 13 games combined(3).

Jadon Sancho vs Wolves(H)

Sancho has had a slow start to his Man United career but he’s slowly showing signs of what he’s capable of under Rangnick. Against Burnley, Sancho was able to have a higher degree of freedom up the pitch following the return of Shaw in the starting 11.

Sancho held some good positions and made a couple of good crosses. Four crosses attempted(Three successful), Six passes into the opposition box against Burnley are all good numbers. He also had the ball in the net but was deemed a Mee own goal and got only an Assist.

At £8.9 he is a bit pricey but now with a decent form, United having potential double gameweeks, Sancho could well worth a punt in our FPL teams. Also, he is up against a Wolves side battling COVID and injuries having not played for a while now. This could well and truly be Sancho and United’s chance to go all guns blazing.

Tariq Lamptey vs Everton(A)

Lively Lamptey is back starting regularly and he’s one of the few defenders who is really good attacking-wise apart from the popular names. Against Chelsea too he was really good and caused trouble to the Chelsea backline. He has started the last four games on the bounce and he has his spot nailed most likely. From the below comparison with fellow full-back Cucucrella nothing warrants investing 0.5 more on him over Lamptey.

Their fixtures over the next few games are too hard to ignore even though there is a blank in GW24.

Matty Cash vs Brentford(A)

Following the arrival of Gerrard the involvement of the Villa fullbacks at both ends of the pitch has been more and Cash has marked his name on the FPL radar. Cash is also amongst FPL manager’s minds as a potential Recce James replacement.

Villa have a favorable run of fixtures and will play some of the league’s worst defences in Leeds, Newcastle, Norwich in the upcoming weeks which bodes well for both defensive and attacking returns. He is also surely nailed having played every game this season, unlike Matt Targett who gets rotated a few times.

Matty Cash in numbers:

• 14 shots inside the box(Sixth highest amongst defenders this season, First amongt full backs)
• 53 touches in the oppostion penatly box(Second highest amongst defenders)
