Euro Fantasy MD2 Differentials: Looking for an Edge in the Group Stage

It’s been a hard first week of Euro Fantasy, with many players seemingly nailed being dropped. But today, I will try to scout out these low-owned differential picks who are due to play in Euro Fantasy MD 2 and could tally up a healthy points total.

Euro Fantasy MD 2 Differentials ~ Defenders

Denzel Dumfries (AUS), £5.5, TSB: 2%

Dumfries Euro Fantasy MD 2 differentials
Under the radar so far, Dumfries was fantastic against Ukraine, scoring late on.

Before Matchday 1, many were looking at Wijndal for a way into the Dutch defense. But after watching the game against Ukraine, Dumfries sees a dream for Fantasy. He played at wing-back, always being present in the final 3rd. An xG of 0.83 is incredible for a Defender, having 3 shots and creating 1 chance. His 11 touches in the penalty area were the highest in the game; he’s a Defender!

Looking at Austria, they seemed shaky defensively against North Macedonia, conceding 7 shots and 5 chances against MKD. This shows their defensive frailties, so Dumfries can strike. And with a 45% chance of a clean sheet, I can easily see the Dutch defender returning at both ends of the pitch.

Benjamin Pavard (HUN), £6.0, TSB: 6%

Benjamin Pavard Euro Fantasy MD 2 differential pick
The Frenchman has notoriously been a great attacking Defender, meaning possible returns at both ends of the pitch.

Many remember Pavard from the 2018 WC, scoring a screamer against Argentina. But there is reason to believe that the Frenchman can repeat his feat this campaign. Pavard has been rotated this season at Bayern, but has looked threatening when he features. For France, the full back has recorded 2 attacking returns in 5 Internationals, showing he can get up there.

Turning to the opposition, Hungary have been written off by many. Conceding 15 goals in EURO Qualifiers, their defense is shaky at best, so an attacking return looks possible for Pavard. And with a Clean Sheet all but nailed, it seems there could be a double-digit haul for the Frenchman.

Euro Fantasy MD 2 Differentials ~ Attackers

Dan James (TUR), £6.5, TSB: 2%

Dan James Euro Fantasy MD 2 differential pick
Having impressed against Switzerland, James is a huge differential on many manager’s minds.

A man who has been repeatedly ridiculed when playing for United, James impressed many in the opening group game. Against Switzerland, James created 2 chances and always seemed to be in and around the penalty area. The Welshman is definitely an explosive player, who seems to be giving all to the cause for The Dragons.

Turkey had an abysmal start, losing 3-0 to Italy in a thumping. They conceded 24 shots on goal (2 big chances), an xGC of 1.91, and had 18 chances conceded. Turkey look there for the taking, with Wales needing a win for any hope to qualify. I can see James turning up here, looking to fire Wales into the Last 16.

Roman Yaremchuk (MKD), £7.0, TSB: 0%

Yaremchuk Euro Fantasy MD 2 differential pick
A threat against the Netherlands, Yaremchuk may be a cheaper way into the Ukraine attack.

I am sure Yaremchuk was brushed aside as a Fantasy asset before the game against the Netherlands. But 1 goal and 1 assist at an xG of 0.94 sealed a superb performance. The Ukrainian was dominant with his tricky wing player and pinpoint crosses, impressing many onlooking managers. He seems a huge threat in the air, so I can see Ukraine making the most of this.

He comes up against a North Macedonian side who have just lost 3-1 to a poor Austria team. At an xGC of 1.99, conceding 13 chances in the process, it seems it could be a long day for The Red Lions, with a seeming lack of height in defense. It could be a field day for Yaremchuk!

Antoine Griezmann (HUN), £11.0, TSB: 5%

Greizmann Euro Fantasy MD 2 differential pick
Griezmann always steps up for Les Blues on the big stage, and I see him doing so again against Hungary.

An interesting one, Griezmann seems to be a player who will be coming into many manager’s MD2 teams. But the Frenchman’s club form has been poor, scoring only 13 goals in 36 games. But he seems a different beast for his Country; 4 goals and 1 assist in 5 Internationals. Playing at No. 10 means he is likely to be involved in most attacks, being a great option.

As mentioned before, Hungary seem an awful defense, previously conceding 3 to Poland, Russia & Croatia (all teams worse than France). A key man for Les Bleus looks a tasty option for Matchday 2.

Artem Dzyuba (FIN), £8.5, TSB: 1%

Dzyuba Euro Fantasy MD 2 differential pick
Dzyuba impressed in the 2018 World Cup, and will be looking to do so again vs a poor MKD side.

Many people will remember Dzyuba from a fantastic 2018 World Cup campaign, where he netted 3 goals in 5 games. Still the main man at Russia, he has been an ever present in the side. He featured against Belgium, but not much can be taken from the game, with Dzyuba being kept quiet. But with his explosive nature, I see him performing when Russia need a win to have a chance of qualifying.

The face a Finland side who had been previously written off, but prevailed in a 1-0 Win over Denmark. They stood very strong, but the game was marred by a horrific incident involving Eriksen, so not much can be looked into for that game. Finland recently lost 1-0 to Estonia and 2-0 to Sweden, so I can see Dzyuba pouncing on this poor defence!
