The first international break of the FPL 2020-21 season is done and dusted and FPL is back after two weeks of boredom and an anxious wait on players returning from the break injury-free. Unfortunately, the injuries have kicked in as key FPL assets like Kane, Sterling, and KDB have all suffered injury scare over the past two weeks. That makes the differential options in your squads all the more important this Gameweek. We here at AllAboutFPL are there to give you the best solutions to do well in your mini-leagues. In this blog, you will find the top 5 differential options for FPL GW 5. One of these players could be the Ollie Watkins or Jack Grealish of the week!
As always, our differential article has five players with less than 10% ownership who have a high chance of returning for that particular GW and beyond. Check out our top differential options for FPL GW5 below!
Note: all player ownership at the time of writing, subject to change as we move close to the FPL GW5 deadline
FPL GW5 Differential Picks:
1. Chris Wood vs West Brom (A) £6.4 Mil TSB: 1.7%
Burnley have endured a tough start to season as they are one of 3 clubs to have lost all their games. However, in FPL GW 5 they take on West Brom, who have conceded more goals(13) than any other side this season. And that number isn’t just an anomaly. Indeed, the Baggies have the worst xGC in the league(9.94) and they have also conceded the most number of shots on target(31) and the second most number of shots inside the box after Leeds. All these stats point to an opportunity for Burnley to get off the mark and Chris Wood could enjoy himself in front of goal this week.
Chris Wood has a phenomenal record against teams from the bottom half of the table. Last season, 10 of Wood’s 14 goals came against these teams. We pretty much expect Burnley to come up with their classic 2-0 win with Wood getting at least one goal if not two.

2.Stuart Dallas vs Wolves(H) £4.5 Mil TSB: 5.3%
Leeds have made a fantastic start to the season, they have picked up 7 points from a possible 12. In FPL GW5 they take on a Wolves side who have looked a shadow of themselves from last season. As a result of which this could be a profitable fixture for Leeds.
Leeds are one of those sides who share their goals throughout the team. So it is difficult to pick the right man for a Gameweek. One player who has come close to scoring in the last two games is Stuart Dallas. He was denied on the line by Basham against Sheffield united and was defied by Ederson last time out when he was clean through on goal.
The underlying numbers for Dallas are extremely encouraging for FPL managers. The defender scored 5 goals last season and also got 3 assists. But quite astonishingly, Dallas had 26 shots on target last season in the championship for Leeds, a tally bettered only by Bamford.
The Wolves game could be the ideal one for Dallas to kick start his goals scoring spree this campaign.

3. Kai Havertz vs Southampton(H) £8.4 Mil TSB: 8.5%
The Chelsea assets have been a huge disappointment so far this season, but things could change starting from FPL GW 5 as now all key players have returned from injury. Kai Havertz looks like the best option for this week as he takes on Southampton, who tend to play a high line.
Havertz has registered 2 assists in his last 2 PL games, following his hat-trick against Barnsley in the League Cup. During the international break, the midfielder registered a goal and 2 assists for Germany.
Opponents Southampton had conceded 6 goals in the first two games, after which they’ve kept two clean sheets. But, have they actually tightened up, or were they up against opponents who simply didn’t have the tools to exploit the high line of Saints? We suspect that the latter is more likely. Chelsea have the players to exploit the defensive frailties of Southampton, so don’t get clouded by the last two games of the South Coast side.

4. Michail Antonio vs Spurs(A) £6.3 Mil TSB: 5.2%
A lot was made of West Ham’s tough run of fixtures to start the season, but they’ve pretty much made a mockery of it. The Hammers have won their last 2 games by an aggregate scoreline of 7-0 against two tough teams, which makes their FPL GW 5 fixture against ‘ the mighty Spurs’ intriguing.
Spurs are a team that has looked vulnerable at the back all season, truth be told. Their center halves are suspect, so it’s no surprise to see that all 5 goals they’ve conceded this season has had an involvement from the center-forward of the opposition( DCL- 1 goal, Ings- 2 goals, Wilson 1 goal, Martial- 1 assist).
Another massive advantage in picking Antonio in your teams this week is his guarantee of points on the road. The Englishman has scored 8 goals in his last 6 matches in the league.
Another factor that gives Antonio the edge over other forwards this week is his potential for penalties. In the continued absence of Mark Noble, Antonio will be the penalty taker for the Hammers. Spurs have conceded a penalty in each of the last three games.
5. Neal Maupay vs Crystal Palace(A), £6.6 Mil TSB: 5.4%
Neal Maupay has been in very good form this campaign for Brighton. The Frenchman has found the net 4 times already and also supplied 1 assist for a teammate this season. Interestingly, 3 of his 4 goals and the assist has come in their two away games. In FPL GW 5 they take on Crystal Palace who looked abject to say the least last time out.
Crystal Palace have an xGC of 7.68, only three teams( ManUtd, Leeds and West Brom) have a worse record. A lot of that has got to do with the fact that they have had a lot of defenders out injured. Most of them are still not fully fit, as a result, which Brighton and in particular Maupay could exploit the holes at the back for the Eagles and help the Seagulls get the bragging rights in the M23 derby.

Author’s pick- Gareth Bale vs West Ham(H)
21 goals 9 assists, 249 points in FPL. These were Bale’s numbers in FPL in his last season in the league before he left Spurs. Even if he turns out to be half of what that player was, he will be an amazing FPL asset, again. The Welshman has been training for the past two weeks, he could be in line to make his second debut for Spurs this week. And who dares to bet against him to get off to an explosive start? Watch out for the pre match press conference from Jose Mourinho.
