Gameweek 27 was another frustrating week for FPL managers. This is becoming a norm these days. No clean sheet for Sheffield united again, another blank for Vardy and Ings. And KDB didn’t do much either, to make matters worse, Sergio Aguero missed a penalty. The only compensation for managers was that popular Liverpool assets including the likes of salah, mane, and TAA were amongst the points once again against West Ham. Let’s now decipher some of the talking points from GW 27.
#1 Blue touch paper lit at the bridge
Pep Guardiola famously once said “ results are a consequence of performance “ Chelsea have done everything in their powers to falsify that statement thus far this season. However, in Gameweek 27 they finally got what they deserved for their performance as they beat Spurs 2-1. FPL legend Marcos Alonso scored a trademark goal. God, how much we’ve missed him in FPL. The Spaniard also hit the crossbar and nearly found the top corner with a spectacular volley with his weaker foot. On another day he could have got a hat trick !!!!
Chelsea assets have let us down in the last couple of months. Having said that, their display against Tottenham could be a turning point for them. With a really good set of fixtures on the horizon, we can count on their assets again.
Reece James seems to be the stand out option from the west London outfit. The young full-back is on set pieces, his crosses have been deadly, and with Giroud seeing first-team action again it won’t be a surprise if he gets an assist or two soon.
Oh and lastly, please tell us if you can as to how Lo Celso didn’t see a red card for that challenge on Azpilicueta. Thank you, VAR !!!!
#2 Magical Mahrez
The word magic is often associated with the great himself, Lionel Messi. Riyad Mahrez every now and again gives you that impression. After Ben Chilwell made Mahrez look like Messi at the Etihad, Rodgers decided to give him some company by putting Christian Fuchs in the eleven to assist him. Didn’t make any difference though.
The Algerian ran through the heart of Leicester’s defense and produced the assist for Gabriel Jesus‘ winning goal on Saturday. Mahrez played 5 key passes in all and also registered 3 shots on goal too and ended up with 2 bonus points. Only KDB ( 178 ) has more FPL points than Mahrez ( 120 ) this season from ManCity. With potentially a double game week on the radar, the former Leicester man is a very good option to consider for FPL managers.
Keep an eye on: ManCity ‘s penalty taker
The champions have now missed their last 4 penalties in the league. Oddly enough, 4 different players have taken them and have all missed. Gundogan, Jesus, Sterling, and Aguero the guilty parties.
There are rumors going around that Ederson may take penalties for City from now on as he’s the best penalty taker in their squad. Sounds amazing from FPL point of view right ?? With Laporte fit again, City ‘s clean sheet potential is high, so having Ederson in your side is definitely worth it. If you’re lucky enough, he may take penalties and that’ll escalate your rank remarkably.
#3 Eagles can fly again
Crystal Palace registered their first win since GW 19 on Saturday against Newcastle. This comes at the right time for FPL managers as Palace’s fixtures for the next three-game weeks are exceptionally good.
Patrick Van Aanholt ( 5.5 ) seems to be the best bet for managers from the south London outfit. The full-back scored the winner in Gameweek 27 against the Magpies.
The Dutchman has been involved in a minimum of 5 goals in each of his last 5 premier league seasons. Thus far he has 3 goals and 0 assists this campaign. So, if history is anything to go by, then PVA giving us attacking returns in the last quarter of the season is very much possible!!!
#4 Bruno is a combination of Scholes and Veron
No, we didn’t come up with that, Ole did !!!
Manchester United came up with one of their performances of the season against a hapless Watford on Sunday. The chief wrecker for the Red Devils was their new signing, Bruno Fernandes.
Fernandes took a Jorginho – Esque penalty as he got his first goal for the club. The Portuguese maestro also delivered an assist for Greenwood ‘s pearlier. He also played the pass which led to Martial ‘s audacious goal. In all he already has 1 goal and two assists in 3 matches.
The midfielder ‘s price has already gone up to 8.2 million. He’s on penalties and set pieces. Everything United do goes through him. So don’t think twice. Just bring him in !!!
#5 Gold standard
Wolves registered their joint biggest win since regaining promotion, in Gameweek 27 after beating Norwich by 3 goals to NIL. Nuno ‘s men now have kept three straight clean sheets for the first time this season. Doherty and Saiss both registered an assist apiece.
After scoring a hat-trick in midweek, Diogo Jota came up with a brace and an assist against the Canaries. The Portuguese forward finished last season strongly . It wouldn’t be a massive surprise if he does the same this time around too.
The Black Country side have an amazing run of games coming up, including a fixture in GW 31, which will be a blank for many teams. As a result of which, managers must consider having at least 2 if not 3 players from their side.
#6 A classic at the Emirates
Arsenal ‘s come from behind win against Everton was a treat to watch for the neutrals. Nobody would have complained if the game ended 5-5 or something like that. Phew, what a game !!!
“Every day is not a Sunday” they say and how Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wishes that that phrase becomes untrue. The Gabonese international now has 32 goals in 38 games played on Sundays as opposed to 17 goals in 36 games on other days . Quite astonishing.
Given the fact that Arsenal will be involved in the Europa league from now till the end of the season, they are likely to play most of their games on Sundays. Adding on to that, their fixtures look promising. So it won’t at all be a disaster to own Aubameyang from GW29 onwards.
As for their opponents Everton, they’ll be kicking themselves for not getting something out of the game. Calvert -Lewin could have scored 4 goals on another day. That’s no exaggeration . The young striker missed three gilt-edged chances, 2 of which were created by Richarlison.
So, the two prime assets from Everton looked menacing all day . Were it not for some poor finishing , the duo would have delivered big hauls again . If you have them in your side, hold on to them. If you do not have either of them, make sure you bring at least one of them in.
